  1. I wish those who try to make a living making poor videos about Thailand would actually learn something about their subject first. Thong Lor is a road, the district is Wattana. A specific area in Wattana falls under the jurisdiction of the Thong Lor Police as does an area of Khlong Toei District (but NOT including the Wattana sub-district of Khlong Toei Neua [which is not in Khlong Toei district to complicate matters]), so called because their HQ is on the street Thong Lor. Asok is also a street (not a district) that sits on the border between two sub-districts of Wattana. The place he was stopped in is another seperate district called Khlong Toei, the border between Khlong Toei and Wattana is Sukhumvit Road itself. Thong Lor Police district covers this area as well.
  2. This would not surprise me, I do hope it is an error but I think we have to wait and see if theres any more confirmation over the next days from other embassies. It's interesting to me that when I read the page (linked above) with the visas and the requirements laid out, I thought thats not a bad visa selection really. It made me think to myself that the big complicating issue is the extension of stay requirements for the differing visas and the long stay implications therein.
  3. Like others have said, it used to be but probably just clinging on to the "list" at the moment. As a retiree I think most of my cohorts (well non asian anyway) are looking for a few standard requirements in a retirement location: good weather; reasonable cost of living; good health care; easy visas; lawful; good travel connections; low taxation; and good mix of developed and under developed. In my time here as a retiree all of those here has either not quite lived up to expectations or gotten worse with the big exception of local taxation. I think its probably still very high amongst certain retirement groups especially those married to Thai or wanting a Thai relationship, those who want to party and those who have the tropical dream (but have not realised how much sweat comes with it).
  4. Another positive spin media article by a company that benefits from spinning the market.
  5. Probably no U trap on your shower drain pipe. My bathroom is same.
  6. I also saw the article on that particular site. They have been getting a lot of stuff wrong lately and seem to have a very slanted editorial policy (or no editing at all which is what I suspect).
  7. I asked because I am trying to buy something but the vendor will only accept crypto. I am not investing in anything.
  8. So how do I buy crypto in Thailand? Everything I try says "purchases not approved yet in Thailand" etc. How can I buy etherium as a normal person living in Thailand with Thai bank accounts, Thai credit cards, Thai address and virtually no technical knowledge? Cheers
  9. Interesting - I just read on Wikipedia that World Vision does not support same sex sex marriage in its staff. Bit of an oddity there as two of our last UK Ambassadors have been in same sex marriages. I wonder if Wikipedia is out of date?
  10. Theres an interesting (and confusing) article running on the front page of the "news outlet that cannot be named". Its says the change in insurance is to allow O-A'ers to get their insurance outside of Thailand if they are too old to get it inside Thailand. Which of course makes zero sense with the current Non Imm O being an alternative for retirees. Theres something weird here, I understand Thailand does things that make no sense at times but this whole thing really does not make any sense if you read the article. What the hell is going on?
  11. sadly not correct Jens, I was told by one of the CW supervisors to consider changing to a non-o next year as this change was about to be made. I was doing an extension. I do agree with you on the non-o, its does not make sense (if I were a gov official) having two different ext of stay fro retirement processes,
  12. I was told about this Change Wattana a few weeks ago when doing an extension. I was also told it would not apply to Non-O and I should consider swapping visas in the future. However as I already have "proper" health insurance it makes the O-A one step easier for me.
  13. Do any of these satellite projections cover more than a 3 or 4 hours? I found "rainviewer" to be incredibly accurate for rain but its just 3 hours forecast, which does not suit my needs because I want to know what the weather will be like tomorrow morning.
  14. Whats the best website for forecasts of Thailand weather? I have tried a few but they all just seem to say "rain" everyday for the rainy season like now, whereas we can have a sunny morning and rain just in the afternoon. What do you use/recommend?
  15. I have been pondering this as well. I sort of decided that going back to the mother country once a year to get a new visa was as easy as anything else. Hopefully that option will become easier in the coming months.
  16. I read all this and smiled. Two groups seem to be prevalent a) I don't want them to close or change to happen and b) the inevitable decline has already begun. Look on the bright side, before its completely dead (go-gos) most of you will also be dead or too old to be bothered about it anymore. I give it 5-10 years before its all gone underground and sex tourism will not be a thing because you will have a hand job machine connected to a computer and 3d goggles. Of course some "Amish" will survive believing themselves to be the embodiment of pure sex tourists of old.
  17. He was fantastic, lived in CM but I went several times to Rama 3 (TDaeng) to see the band. They were amazing musically and as a spectacle. The Tawan Daeng venue really suited them, they could really get the crowd going. Another Farang Thai legend passes.
