  1. Being in front is always a huge advantage in Monaco, even with a slower car. So chances are the result would have been the same, but we will never know.

We know, however, that the red flag took away a great finale with a lot of attacks from Alonso and Jensen. As Alonso said in the press conference, he would have taken more risks because basically he has nothing to lose. Did he already give up his hopes for a title?

I found the penalties given by the marshals to both Di Resta and Hamilton, too harsh and counter-productive. Why make all kind of rules to facilitate overtaking and then, when someone tries just that, punish him? OK, the Loews corner is a very tricky corner where cars often have understeer, which makes it very difficult for an overtaking maneuver inside, but - hey - that's racing!

Explain that to Massa and Maldonado plse.

  2. Used Oman Air once BKK/MCT/FRA/MCT/BKK in business class.

    Excellent !!

The best business class seats I have ever experienced.

However Muscat airport is a let down compared to their inflight experience.

Used the internet option on board just for the thrill of it and it worked albeit slowly..

  3. Funny they don't seem to mind when I hold up the glass and say 'one more'..........and not...... "would you like another beer"

We are talking about pidgin English, not informal English. :ermm:

Sorry but no we are not. The OP is about pidgin Thai.

Anyway I find all this ludicrous, and by some verry PC which I hate with a vengeance.

Language is about communication, and as long as people understand each other then communication has happened.

Languages are barriers, and if you don't believe me, then look up the story about the tower of Babel in the bible.

    No offence intended.

  4. If I meet half-caste kids, i always start off speaking english with them.

Why do you assume all half-caste kids speak English?

If their mother or father is a European Expat, it's a fair assumption.

Are you sure? Not all Europeans speak Engleeesh. :shock1:

    jb1

    Mine speak german

  5. It's a matter of education.

It's not enough to tell her, you have to prove it to her that one cannot clean something with a dirty cloth.

Took me 20 minutes and then a couple of weeks later once more, but since then situation resolved.

  6. OK, so how much is the tax hike on cigarettes in THAILAND going to be then?

According to the Thai News on Tv, about 20 Baht/ pack.

So can we discuss now the tax situation for cigarettes in Thailand ????:whistling:

    Yermanee

  7. I know a packet of 20 cigarettes cost about 300 Baht in the UK in this January. Here in Bangkok they appear to be about 70-80 Baht a packet.

Yes, and... Who cares of the price in the UK?

    Smokers in the UK

  8. what is this Nana Plaza, i keep hearing about?

    is it a shopping arcade?

    One could say that yes.

However the articles on sale are just variations of the same thing.

  9. Thanks, that seems to be the only option ,however with the disadvantge that the airline will problaby allow itself plenty of time until the reimbursement actually is in my account again.

No it's not the only option.

Go to a reputed travel agent and ask for a booking for visa purposes.

You don't have to pay yet.

Afterwards when you have the visa you can cancel or confirm.

  10. If I want to eat Alsatian I'll go to a Korean restaurant :whistling:

    Is it good?

    Behave.

    post-37101-0-81713200-1304014649_thumb.j

Anyway, give it a try. It won't break most banks. Don't expect 5 star setting or food though. It's rustic country style.

BTW, I'm curious. Were most of you even AWARE this restaurant exists? It gets a mostly non-Anglo crowd (French/German, etc.)

    Hi Jingthing,

    Choucroute Alsacienne is French.

That explains why you'll find mostly non-Anglo customers there.

Anyway they don't know what there missing. (The Anglo's I mean)

  11. A couple of remarks on this one.

First, it's not an airport scam, it's an immigration police scam at the airport.

People that don't need a re-entry visa are not subjected to it.

As one of the posters replied, for some that do use this service because of logistics, they would consider the 200 Baht extra as a convenience fee.

I don't condone corruption, but sometimes (as in this case) it's a small price to pay for saving time and hassle, in my opinion about on the same level as paying 200 Baht for speeding.

    Yermanee :jap:

Only my opinion - but I think ur very wrong + a couple of previous posters.

Calling this a convenience fee....by having such attitude corruption exists and will be spreading across thailand and many other nations. It's just easier to pay this - why would I bother? I'd never pay a penny I'd rather make a big show around that booth, waste my time and possibly get in trouble. At least I'd know I did something to fight it rather than being passive. I'd feel absolutely terrible if I just paid - but this is only me.

Same thing happens to policemen stopping u on the highway, trying to find something missing from your documents and in the end (when they realize everything is fine) asking 100 baht. I laugh straight in their face and tell them to deal with my embassy if they have a problem. What do they do? (Not right away but)....They walk away...

I have such attitude towards every single similar scam whether at the airport or not and it works... never got into trouble, spent some time on it and got what I deserved = WIN! In my opinion this is the way to go but if for you it'd be easier to pay 200baht then ur another little contributor to maintaining corruption on every possible level.

Hope I didnt offend u but I had to put my point accross.

    PEACE

No I'm not offended at all. Just as you I have an opinion.

However claiming that corruption exists by having the " so what attitude " is a bit over the top.

Corruption is (in my opinion) due to the fact that mankind is inherently corrupt, and society as it is only emphasizes this in giving people power over others.

Power corrupts and not the victims because of their attitude.

    Just my 2 cents

  13. I know EXACTLY what Jurgen is talking about. I do it all the time and expect nothing in return. But, something always seems to return in my favour, and not in the way I would first expect. More often than not I will help out with a bit of cash, or a toy for someone's child. I get pleasure in giving and somewhere down the road I get kindness in return.

    My sentiments exactly.

But I guess " pearls to the swine" here on ThaiVisa.

  14. OK then - if you are going to be pedantic let's call it a 'budget airline as long as you don't want to travel at peak times and as long as you book well in advance airline'. Happy now?

    No I'm not happy.

It is a "budget airline" as far as services are concerned (luggage, food, no refund etc. etc.) but not always price wise.

    That's all I'm saying.

    Happy now?

    yermanee

  15. Then again if u booked it further in advance, comes in at under 6000 baht return with all extras added in.

Booked one week out, of course its gonna cost top dollar, especially seeing as its over Easter season.

    That's no excuse.

Not everyone knows months beforehand if they want to/will travel to a certain destination.

Fact is that if you leave it late for whatever reason, then price wise it's not a budget airline anymore.

  16. OK. I went to see Matt this morning at the temple . The temple is at Samut Sakorn some 30 Kilometers from Bangkok, situated by a river. The temple is beautiful and quite famous.

I asked the lady flowers at the temple whether is there any farang in the temple? She said yes there is one now with the abbot.

He speaks little Thai but active and is very helpful.

Matt wai me first.( so he knows Thai's custom very well ), He told me that the embassy could not give the money nor ticket to him. But someone in the embassy tried to help him too by trying to contact whoever in UK but there was no respond so far.

I said is there anything I can help. He said (with British pride, I guessed ) there is some people came to see him and offer to help too, but he made the problem himself so he has to solve by himself. There was someone came to see him yesterday who will return back to England shortly and Matt gave some address.

So are you happy here? I asked. He said he's fine . He is now with the Abbot of the temple . And he teaches English to little kids around the area. He said if he save enough money for the ticket home and for the fines ( he over stayed in Thailand. ) Then the British embassy will issue new passport and take him to immigration at airport so he can fly back. ( without ticket to fly home , British embassy will not issue him new passport )

So how many kids you are teaching and when you think you will

have enough money to buy the ticket. He said around 10 and probably he will reach the target by the end of this year.

So I said good bye and got his phone number and promised to find more students around Samut Sakorn area. for him.

He seems fine to me and probably well fed. He said he had to go back to serve the Abbot. (I had no chance of talking to the Abbot as he was busy receiving offering from many Thais ) I think he is Abbot's right hand now and well taken care of.

Congratulations for being a decent human being.:jap:

However leaves a lot of the posters with egg on their face.

Whatever happened to having a conscience ?

  17. Egypt Air, Air India, Pakistan Airlines or Aeroflot

    Yermanee

Thanks, will check those out. I can't imagine Aeroflot being cheap, though. I lived in Russia for a couple of years and flying with Aeroflot always cost a fortune!

ETA: Egyp Air is giving prices of over 33,000 to London!

Also, any suggestions on what countries are cheaper to fly to?

I believe either Frankfurt Germany or Paris CDG .
