  1. These numbers are not easy to obtain. Is this for business or a project you are working on ? What routes are you looking at ?

If you need historical fares, and basic data lots of information is located here http://www.centrefor...files/airports/

    Thanks,

Sorry for late reply, was without internet for a while. (computer)

No not for business, just interested in traffic loads between BKK and my home country out of curiosity.

Gathered already that the airlines want to keep this info out of the public domain for obvious reasons.

    Thanks anyway.:jap:

  2. Austrian, Schmaustrian, their menu seems extremely Germanic to me. It's been many years since I've been to either Germany or Austria. Mostly I remember the pastries in Austria. What distinguishes the Austrian aspect of that restaurant compared to a German one? Thanks for the confirmation of my impression of Domicil. Cheers.

Seriously though, can any German/Austrian restaurant in town actually beat

Bei Gerhard in Naklua (specializing in Schwabian cuisine)?

    http://www.webseiten.thai.li/Gerhard/

    Agree,

Gerhard is one of the better places for German food, although I have to admit too having been disappointed on a couple of occasions.

But then again there are few chef's who get all of their dishes right.

BTW the resto where Gerhard used to be isn't bad either but again not for all his dishes.

As for me I'm not particularly fond of sauerkraut.

p.s. Just realized that the address on the website provided by Jingthing is the old address of Gerhard's. He moved a couple of years ago to the small Soi just past the Bank of Ayudhya (big yellow building on the left hand side if your going north). It's about 100 metres in that Soi.

  3. Had my prostate surgically scraped out there.

Price quote at BPH : between 130.000 and 150.000 Baht.

Payed at Phyathai : 42.872,- Baht including 2 nights in a VIP room.

Like in most hospitals it all depends on the competence of the doctors that you find there.

    The urologist is top class.

  4. Why do people complain about how "hard" it is to stay here long term. It is far easier to stay in Thailand long term than most western countries.

My understanding is that the Thai government has managed effectively to close down some of the loopholes in the visa regulations.

Seems this affects many members here.:whistling:

  5. I would recommend ANTON on Naklua road.

They have a very reasonable priced buffet where you can sample some good wholesome German food.

Don't expect high cuisine, but it's quality food for a good price and the beer is cold.

  6. Anyone should be able to wear what they like (with the exeption of black socks and sandals and lycra cycling shorts) :) but i must admit i really cannot for the life of me see why anyone would walk the streets of Pattaya with a gold chain worth 30000 baht on display

Last time I looked on Google maps, the Satahip Naval Hospital is not in Pattaya.

  7. I hope you are right and this is some sort of joke. Unfortunately, given all of the negative visa changes over the past ten years, it could be real. They just did it in Cambodia. Why? I do not know given that foreigners do not need to marry Cambodian women for visa purposes. In Thailand, maybe that does happen in a few cases given that the visa situation is much more difficult in Thailand than in Cambodia. But certainly it does not happen in most cases.

This always seems to come up here on ThaiVisa.

I have been living here for over 25 years now, and if anything the visa situation has become more easy to negotiate than before.

    But that just me

  8. Well I haven't traveled to 45 countries same as you, but you must have been very lucky to have never had such a bad experience as at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Allthough I must agree that Don Muang in more ways than one had a more sympathetic feel to it than the new airport, I find that Suvarnabhumi is a lot more efficient and a lot more easy to travel to and from, than Don Muang ever was.

Apart from that I have had very bad experiences in some of the airports that I use regularly, in particular Schiphol Amsterdam, Paris CDG, Frankfurt Airport and my worst experience was at Dubai Airport.:bah:

    But that just me.

  9. Most raw chicken in supermarkets has been frozen.

Frozen chicken has to be kept at minus 21 degrees celcius to keep the bone marrow from going off.

If chicken has been frozen at anything less than that (recognizable from the brown color of the meat around the thighbone), your chicken will start smelling very quickly.

I've learned this the hard way.

  10. It would depend on the reasons for most leaving. However I would probably be happy to be amongst that 10%. Especially if by forginers you mean everyone who is not Thai, (ie Chinese, Burmese, all other Asians as well)

It would certainly be interesting however, I can't imagine a positive scenario in which that would happen.

But you sound like you think that without the few pennies some old farangs toss up too Issan for their x-bar girls is gonna make some kind of meaningful, even measurable difference to the economy, and thats just funny.

    Wow,

    Anyone else you hate ?

Now Jingthing where did I say that I can read minds ?

I do have 75 years of interacting with people behind me so maybe, just maybe I know a thing or 2.

If I perceive a person to be polite that's enough for me.

If I perceive that a person treats me with respect that's enough for me.

At first I thought "How rude is that? Turn and face them if you're talking to them, for goodness' sake!"

but then I thought maybe you have more in common with JT than you are letting on, so ....

    Anyway, least said, soonest mended.

    SC

I suppose JT was picking up on the difference between being respected, and being treated with respect.

In my view, no-one, not even beggars or royalty, are important enough for me to sacrifice what little good manners I have. That authority I grant only to the demon drink

I'm very sorry that my English is not clear enough for you to understand.

I'll try to do better next time, because I'm sure that if I wrote in German you would understand even less.

I'm surprised however that you don't practice your own saying i.e. least said, soonest mended.

  12. Generally speaking, if you are polite and respectful i've foung the Thais to be very tolerant. You get the odd imbecile as you do in any society but i've found them to be in the minority.

I don't think superficial external signs of politeness and respect, especially in a culture like Thailand, actually tell you anything about what a person actually believes.

I believe that external signs of politeness and respect show a lot of what a person actually believes.

Even if it doesn't, I prefer to be treated with respect above anything else.

I am glad for you that you can read minds (and smiles which I admit is possible with practice but rare is the foreigner who can read them like natives).

  14. Thanks for that worth buying one with an inverter then. Interesting saying about insulating the ceiling, I have not yet found a loft entrance to any property in Thailand whats the secret?

No loft door in my ceiling. What the guys did for entrance, was removing some of the roof tiles to gain access, and put them back in place when the job was finished. Easy !!

Makes a world of difference because the loft is the hottest place in your house and even after when the sun goes down and the outside air cools down, your ceiling keeps on radiating heat for a long time.

    But that's just my experience.

  15. I've always wondered if the "service charge" in those ++ places actually is given to the staff.

I know two people working in the hotel industry, one at a very high end resort in Phuket and one at a good BKK hotel. Both of them get a modest salary (8,000 and 6,000 baht/month). And both do get their share of the aggregate monthly service charge which is split between all the service staff from receptionist to doorman to bellhop to maid. At the BKK hotel, that can mean another 8-12,000 baht per month. At the Phuket resort, it has been as high as 30,000 baht.

I believe that the service charge tally is very transparent and the staff can readily calculate where they are at at any given time.

Not all hotels give the service charge to the staff, maybe as you said in some of the higher end hotels. I know that most hotels give only half of the service charge to the staff, and many even less than that.
