Mohammed Ben Sulayem, president of Formula 1's governing body, allegedly told officials not to certify the Las Vegas circuit for its race last year. The claim is from the same whistleblower who accused Ben Sulayem of allegedly telling officials to overturn a penalty to Fernando Alonso in Saudi Arabia last year. The whistleblower says they were told "on behest of the FIA president" to find a way not to pass the circuit safe for racing. The claim is in a report by the FIA's compliance officer to its ethics committee. BBC Sport has seen the report. A FIA spokesperson said: "From a sporting and safety perspective, the Las Vegas circuit approval followed FIA protocol in terms of inspection and certification. "If you recall, there was a delay in the track being made available for inspection due to ongoing local organiser construction works." The report quotes the whistleblower saying they were contacted by their manager, "who on behest of the FIA president instructed him to find some concerns to prevent the FIA from certifying the circuit before the weekend of the race". The compliance report quotes the whistleblower as saying that "the purpose was to find fault with the track in order to withhold the licence". It adds: "Asked to be more specific, [the whistleblower] said that issues on the circuit were meant to be artificially identified regardless of their actual existence, with the ultimate goal of withholding the licence." The whistleblower said they tasked an official with performing this task, and named two further officials who were in the room at the time. Victory keeps Arsenal firmly in the Women's Super League title race, three points behind leaders Manchester City. Tottenham stay sixth as their winless run extends to four games. The official attendance of 60,050 is the second-highest in WSL history, just short of the record 60,160 at the Emirates for Arsenal's win over Manchester United in February. Jonas Eidevall's side dominated throughout but after Russo stabbed just wide from a corner early on, they struggled to create any chances of note in the first half. Red Bull's Max Verstappen sent out a chilling message to his Formula 1 rivals with a crushing victory in the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix. He brushed off controversy surrounding his team principal Christian Horner to dominate after a brief challenge at the start from Ferrari's Charles Leclerc. Verstappen led team-mate Sergio Perez home ahead of Ferrari's Carlos Sainz. Leclerc recovered from dropping to fifth early on to pass Mercedes' George Russell for fourth in the closing laps. The weekend in Bahrain had been dominated by Horner, who has been at the centre of a complaint of inappropriate behaviour from a female colleague for the last month. On Wednesday, the day before the on-track action started, Red Bull's head office announced that the grievance had been dismissed. An email containing a cache of messages purporting to involve Horner was sent to Formula 1 personnel and media less than 24 hours later. After qualifying, Verstappen was asked twice whether he had full confidence in Horner as Red Bull team principal, and both times declined to give a definitive reply. Horner's wife, the former Spice Girl Horner, flew into Bahrain for the race, as the pair made what appeared to be a studied and calculated appearance for the cameras. Red Bull's main shareholder, the Thai businessman Chalerm Yoovidhya, also flew in for the race to offer public support for Horner. Yoovidhya declined to answer BBC Sport's questions before the race. Goals from Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon and Tino Livramento helped Newcastle overcome Wolves and register their first home win in the Premier League since mid-December. Sweden international Isak nodded in at the end of a sweeping counter-attack involving Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes, whose left-footed shot deflected off Craig Dawson and into the striker's path. Tomas Soucek struck a stylish half-volley as West Ham scored twice in injury time to clinch a dramatic win at Everton. The Blues had taken the lead when Beto - who had seen a first-half penalty saved - headed in at the back post shortly after half-time. Kurt Zouma equalised for the Hammers with a header from a corner. The game looked set to end in a draw but Soucek scored a stunning goal with his instep in added time before Edson Alvarez struck right at the end. It gave David Moyes, who managed Everton from 2002 to 2013, a hat-trick of Goodison Park victories over his old club as Hammers boss. Everton xG 'through the roof' but Dyche frustrated Moyes' side move up to seventh in the the Premier League table while Everton are 16th - five points above the relegation zone. The Toffees are also winless in 10 games, stretching back to a 2-0 victory over Burnley on 16 December. With five draws and two defeats in 2024, this is their joint-longest winless run from the start of a calendar year in their league history.
