  3. Third T20 international, Dubai Scotland 94 (19.4 overs): Munsey 21; Aayan 3-14 UAE 62 (15.2 overs): Raja 28; Currie 3-7 Scotland won by 32 runs Scorecard Scotland claimed a T20 series win over United Arab Emirates by securing a 32-run victory in a Dubai decider. Despite being bowled out for just 94, an impressive Scotland bowling display limited the hosts to a score of 62. Brad Currie, Jack Jarvis and Mark Watt were key in that, taking three wickets each, with wicketkeeper Charlie Tear also impressing. Tear took two catches, stumped out UAE captain Muhammad Waseem and hit 16 while batting in a fine performance. George Munsey was Scotland's top scorer, reaching 21 as they were restricted to 94 and bowled out in the final over. But the Scots went on claim early wickets in the UAE's first four overs on their way to completing a turnaround and 2-1 series victory. Jarvis told Cricket Scotland: "We're really happy to have won the series, in the last two games we showed some real courage and fight to get over the line so that's really pleasing. "We didn't get the total we wanted to, but we still had that belief, especially after doing it [on Wednesday] and having them 15 for five in the powerplay, we were always in the game." READ MORE
  4. Rory McIlroy hit 10 birdies to share the lead with Xander Schauffele and Wyndham Clark at seven under after round one of the Players Championship. Starting on the 10th, the Northern Irishman had six birdies in his opening eight holes, including on Sawgrass' iconic par-three 'island hole' 17th. But he dropped shots on the 18th and seventh holes after driving into water. England's Matt Fitzpatrick and Canadian Nick Taylor are at six under, while Scottie Scheffler is five under. World number one Scheffler opened with a bogey on the par-four first but followed that with three birdies and had three more on the back nine as he started his quest to become the first player to defend the title in the 50th playing of the PGA Tour's $25m flagship event. Joining the American are Australian Jason Day, winner of this event in 2016, and Swedish sensation Ludwig Aberg who were among six players to shoot 67 on a day of low scoring in Florida. The tone was set by McIlroy, who was out early at the Florida course. He birdied his opening three holes and rolled in three more in his next five holes. His first error, a wayward drive into the water down the left of the 18th cost him one shot but he birdied three of his next six holes to reach eight under after 15. READ MORE
  5. Captain Jamie George says England have reviewed footage of last year's record home defeat by France as they prepare to enact revenge in the Six Nations. George described England's 53-10 defeat at Twickenham as one of the "darkest days" in his career. England have not beaten France away from home since they last claimed the Grand Slam in 2016 and George says they "know what is coming" in Lyon. "We have looked at last year's game this week," George told BBC Sport. "We would be stupid not too. It was one of the darkest days of my career and that was not what English rugby should be about. Daly replaces Feyi-Waboso on wing for England Title permutations, kick-off times, standings and BBC coverage 'We walked off like we had lost' - memories of England v France Rugby Union Daily: The Rivalries - France v England "We were many percentages off and when you are that poor against a team like France you know you deserve to be beaten." France have been far from their best without influential half-back pairing Antoine Dupont and Roman Ntamack, but George says their heavyweight pack remains a strength. Les Bleus made several second-half changes in the forwards to gain the momentum and overcome Wales in their last outing. "They are up there with the most physical pack in the world at the minute," added 33-year-old hooker George. "Their pack won them the game in the end against Wales. It was pretty tight after 60 mins but the bench that came on dismantled that Welsh pack. "France have a lot of big men with a lot of weight but we have to stick to our guns and take it to them." 'We are not going to change the way we play' England arrive in Lyon after beating defending champions Ireland to keep their faint title ambitions alive. They can still win the tournament if they defeat France with a bonus point and Ireland fail to collect a point against Scotland. Steve Borthwick's side outscored Ireland 3-2 on tries after playing with greater attacking intent than previously in this year's competition. READ MORE
  6. Warren Gatland has backed George North over his decision to retire from international rugby. North, who has won 120 caps for Wales and scored 47 tries, will leave the Ospreys and join French club Provence this summer. The 31-year-old has announced he will end his Test career after Saturday's Six Nations finale against Italy. "I completely understood his decision with him going to France and taking the family with him," said Gatland. North's switch to France was revealed earlier this term against a backdrop of Wales' four professional regions - Ospreys, Dragons, Scarlets and Cardiff - facing budget cuts next season. Gatland says North wanted to stay in Wales. It is understood Ospreys were keen to keep North, who become the latest big-name signing for a Provence club with ambitions of playing in France's Top 14 league. "It's an opportunity for him," said Gatland. "With the potential difficulties of travelling back and forth, he wants to give it his all if he's still involved in international rugby. "At the moment he has made that decision to focus on the family and playing in France. "He did say if the opportunity was there he'd liked to have stayed in Wales, but he wasn't given that. So that's probably made his decision for him." Emotional North reflects on glittering career Wales recall retiring North and Tompkins for Italy When asked to clarify his comments on why North was not able to stay in Wales, Gatland added': "I don't know the economics of what he was offered in France. "We are all aware of the restrictions on what the regions have been able to offer players, and what their agents expect. "If you get offered a big contract in your late 20s or early 30s to go somewhere else you have to consider that because you are coming to the end of your career. "You don't know what is going to happen post-rugby, and so they are the considerations. George would have loved to have stayed, but I don't know the economics behind the decision." READ MORE

  8. Defender Conor Bradley says Liverpool want to "win every trophy" possible for departing boss Jurgen Klopp after they thrashed Sparta Prague to reach the Europa League quarter-finals. Already 5-1 ahead after a dominant first-leg showing in the Czech Republic, Darwin Nunez's opener was the first of four goals in seven first-half minutes as the Reds overwhelmed their opponents. And by full-time the hosts had run up their biggest aggregate win in a European competition for over four decades as they equalled the 11-2 success over Finnish side Oulun Palloseura in the first round of the European Cup 1980-81. "He's [Klopp] been the only manager I've known at this club, so for him to be leaving is sad," the Northern Ireland full-back told TNT Sports. "We just want to win every trophy we can for him and give him the best send-off we can." Liverpool are also second in the Premier League and face Manchester United in last eight of the FA Cup as they look to add more silverware following their Carabao Cup triumph in February. Blistering start underpins emphatic win Dominik Szoboszlai's precise cut-back allowed Uruguay forward Nunez to start the rout, as he registered his ninth goal in 11 games, by guiding a low effort into the bottom right corner. And some shambolic attempts to play out from the visitors the back only served to provide further momentum to Liverpool's blistering start. Teenager Bobby Clark, the son of former Newcastle midfielder Lee, was the first beneficiary, capping a fine first European start with his first senior goal just 68 seconds later, as he rolled the ball past visiting goalkeeper Peter Vindahl. 13. England bowler James Anderson says he is "not getting any worse" but his place in the team is "not a given". Anderson, 41, became the first pace bowler to take 700 Test wickets during defeat in the fifth Test in Dharamsala as India sealed a 4-1 series victory. England do not play another Test until a three-match series against West Indies starts on 10 July, followed by three Tests against Sri Lanka. "I'm really excited for the summer," Anderson told the Tailenders podcast. "I want to make sure I'm playing well and earn my place in the team." Anderson, who took 10 wickets in four Tests at an average of 33.5, said he bowled "really well" in India, having struggled to make an impact during last summer's home Ashes against Australia. "I'm not getting any worse," he added. "I'm definitely in the best shape I've ever been in. "I like where my game is at and I still have that enjoyment of turning up every day and trying to get better in the nets. "My place in the team is not a given so I've got to work hard to prove I'm worth a place in the summer." Quiz: How many of Anderson's Test wickets can you name? 15. England wing Immanuel Feyi-Waboso has been ruled out of the Six Nations finale against France on Saturday because of concussion. Feyi-Waboso, 21, played a starring role in the 23-22 win over Ireland last weekend, but he reported concussion symptoms on Monday. Attack coach Richard Wigglesworth confirmed Feyi-Waboso will be unavailable for the trip to Lyon. "We don't take any risks with that sort of stuff," Wigglesworth said. "There was no major incident. He had a knock and didn't feel quite right, so he reported the symptoms and then was removed accordingly. "He's obviously gutted, but being the smart lad he is, he reported his symptoms. He did the right thing." The Exeter Chiefs youngster was a probable starter in Lyon after playing a vital role in Marcus Smith's match-winning drop-goal against Ireland with a powerful carry down the wing in the closing stages. Elliot Daly, who started England's opening three games ahead of Feyi-Waboso, is likely to regain his place in the line-up. 16. David Raya settled all lingering arguments about manager Mikel Arteta's judgement and his status as Arsenal's first-choice goalkeeper amid the sound and fury of a dramatic Champions League win over Porto at Emirates Stadium. Raya's uncertain start as replacement for Aaron Ramsdale prompted suggestions that Arteta had attempted to fix something that was not actually broken by bringing in the Spaniard from Brentford to replace the Arsenal fans' favourite who was good enough to play for England. And in the spirit of full disclosure, and before the reminders arrive and large portions of humble pie are thrown in this direction, one of the biggest doubters is right here and must admit to being wrong after witnessing Raya's finest night since arriving at Arsenal. Raya delivered when it mattered most, offering further confirmation of his steady improvement and reliability, with two penalty shootout saves from Wendell and Galeno as Arsenal reached a Champions League quarter-final for the first time in 14 years with a 4-2 win in the shootout after a 1-0 win on the night. Arsenal beat Porto in Champions League Arteta 'insulted my family' claims Porto's Conceicao 'Where we want to be' - Arsenal end 14-year wait It was a tense, nervous, ill-tempered night which will serve as an ideal crash course in the Champions League as Arsenal lept a psychological barrier into the last eight after losing at this last-16 stage in their past seven ventures into the competition. What I find concerning is ONE farang behaves inappropriately, now they appear to have launched an "open season" on ANY Farang to scrutinise, etc. The other side of the fence, a Thai commits a traumatic offence against a farang, and not much appears to follow and depending on how connected they are, if at all. Double standards?
