  1. Ah, Thai Visa is wonderful. As soon as I posted this I solved the problem after 4 hours of trying.

I had iplayer radio version 1.6.2.xxxxxxx

With Hola saying I was in the UK.

I uninstalled the app, went via firefox to the google play site and was still told it was installed.

Clicked the my apps on the top left hand side and it showed BBC iplayer radio still installed but when I clicked it it offered to install the app.

Installed version 1.6.3.xxxxxx and it works again.

    Switched Hola off. still OK

  2. I always listen to the BBC using the BBC iplayer radio app on my android tablet.

Today it says I have to up grade the app. So I fire up Hola to pretend I am in the UK only to be told I have the latest version so can not change.

So I try to listen in firefox, very slow but it did connect - but no sound. Maybe this is a flash problem.

Any suggestions on how to continue getting Radio 4 and radio 5 both live and on demand? Live works well on other apps but they do not have the on demand feature.

  3. Yes agreed - VB6 is very old but it does do quick and easy jobs very nicely! And I enjoy playing with it.

I half heartedly tried using .net but failed to get started so gave up.

The problem is this is a program that started out small some 15 years ago and has grown and grown - along with what I want it to do. It works fine in English and Thai, even if the Thai on the code pages doesn't come out properly but on a form it is fine.

I have used a few programs to produce a pdf file by using print commands - ie print to a .pdf. All produce the file that is fine, but then need user intervention to give it a file name to save. If one of the pdf printers would automatically save the file I produce that would be fine as I can then attach the pdf file to an email, job done.

I have tried acrobat XI, Debanu, Foxit, pdfFactory and pdfCreator but all suffer from the same problem - it needs user intervention for a filename!

    Thanks for all the comments

  4. I have a program in Visual Basic 6 (Not in .net).

I can get the program to send emails via Gmail (using microsoft - schemas.microsoft.com), but any Thai text sometimes gets mangled - not always but sometimes it comes through as those funny symbols and letters.

I did try saving the text as a text file that did open in Notepad correctly and attaching it to the email, but again it gets mangled. Looking at the text file on the Gmail website it is OK, but download it and it all falls apart.

I tried to save the file as an .html file and attaching it, but that never worked properly.

I wanted to save it as a .pdf file but can not find any .pdf maker that will automatically save the file - all call for user intervention to give it a file name.

I did find a free pdf converter, but that wouldn't open in Adobe or Foxit.

I tried converting to .net but my knowledge is not good enough to make it work.

Anyone find a solution to my problem?

  5. Kevvy -

Thanks for a very informative reply.

Yes, Weathersheild is very good - my UK house was done in white 10 years ago and still look good - and has a 15 year guarantee!

I have tried the water based gloss paints in the UK and was not happy. Not glossy at all and tends to dry a bit powdery. I does not seem to have the lasting power. But for a rented house interior it is quick and easy to apply!

  6. I'm looking to repaint the interior walls of my condo. Going to be the same colour, paint to go onto mainly plasterboard (Gypsum) wall.

Which brand and type should I go for?

The walls are OK, just a bit dirty after 10 years but want to get away with just one coat.

There is one part of the condo that has a cement wall that is rougher than the rest. Is there any paint that could make it smoother?

  7. Amorn has some LED lighting as well, including tube replacement but I can not remember if they had any circular ones.

I am still doubtful if LED lighting makes sense. It seems a lottery as to whether they give out as much light as they advertise - if they do give a Lux figure at all. Or they are very expensive and would need to run 30,000 hours to make them pay.

Maybe there is a need to wait a year or so more before changing?

  8. Still keeping on topic for the OP,

My wife is also a farang and is a dependant on my retirement extension.

I'm going to switch from showing income to having 800,000 Baht in the Bank. (I am fed up with the UK's £50 tax each year!)

As we are both farang can this 800,000 Baht be in a joint account? I understand it can not be in a joint Thai Farang account.

Why do I want this - if anything happens to me then my wife can easily access the money for her own use.

  9. Personally I wouldn't.

The dummy CCTV units look like dummies. And as they can often cost nearly the same as a cheap 'real' CCTV put one of them up and don't bother with the wiring.
