  1. Sorry that it is felt that a topic about flights cancelled due to fog is the same as one about flights going over Festival, but for those who are interested or flying in and out of CNX the flights are now back to normal, landing and taking off.

  2. Report from Tuesday the 19th

Arrived 5.30 to be number 14 in the queue. By the time they were handing out tickets there were about 34 in the queue so you could have turned up at 7.30 and been OK. Not sure if everyone got a ticket but think they did. Told to come back at 11am, seem a little after that and told to collect passport after 2pm. All ready when I went at 4pm.

Think I could have done my re-entry there and then, but my papers were not ready. Went back on Thursday about 9.30, had my papers checked and went straight in to the desk to get a re-entry stamp. 15 minutes maximum.

For 90 day, at about 6.30 a literal bus load of people arrived, all one group, to join the queue. Far too many in the queue for me to count but they all seemed to get a ticket.

  3. I know you said not to go East but I looked at London Beijing CNX for my brother in law (and yes I like him) and found the flight time very similar to via BKK. The only problem was the trip to London has a long layover in Beijing - enough time to get into town and back.

I use Manchester and wonder if anyone knows the routing that Cameron negotiated with the Chinese Premier the other month? Supposed to be a Manchester China direct route and hopefully connection to CNX.

  4. I am looking for rolls of sticky backed vinyl with some design or other on the front.

I did see them for sale in Festival on a pop-up stand last year but now can not find anyone selling the stuff. Can't find it in HomePro or other DIY type places.

Anyone know of a shop in Chiang Mai which has any?

I want to use it to stick on some doors to 'beautify' them, so need it to be at least 45cm wide and 2metre long. I've seem it on Ali Express but suspect I'll get done for taxes if I order from there, anyway difficult to see what the design is from their pictures.

  5. I suppose for Nancy or anyone else who has been recently,

Did you get asked about the TM30?

Our Condo does a report when we arrive and I have just done a 90 day internet report successfully so assume I am OK to do my extension next week without a TM30.

PS - Yes I am the owner, not renting.

  6. One advantage of a rather unclear Condo Act is that different buildings can have different management structures.

So each building can sort out a structure that suits them - and that can vary a lot as this thread (and others) have shown.

In our case we employ a management company that provides the JPM and their expertise etc. The committee actively works with the management company,

All the staff are Condo staff. They worked for the Condo before the company came and will continue to work for the Condo after the company goes. It sounds difficult since the staff are the responsibility of the JP, but do not work for the JP -- but it works for us.

I have experience of one management company that tried to insist on doing everything. They would manage, provide JP and the condo staff would work for them direct. If we wanted to change management company we would have to get new staff for every position since they put a clause in their contract saying we could not employ 'their' staff without a massive penalty. You would have to have a lot of trust to use such a company.

  7. As normal I think the Condo act is not clear.

On reflection I do not know if the Condo act says the number of committee members must be 3 or more up to a maximum of 9 members or if it allows a Condo to set any number between 3 and 9. I have always felt the former not the latter. My translation says:

"37. The Management committee comprising not less than three and not more than nine members shall be appointed by the resolution at a general meeting."

When it comes to committee members serving more than 2 terms again I feel this is always possible provided there are vacant spaces in the 9 allowed. So you can vote in 4 new members and 3 more who have already served 2 terms.

It is possible for owners to refuse to re-elect committee members. It has often been argued that electing a committee member is a motion and as such requires a majority vote of those present to elect them. Some have even argued that you have to get more than 25% of all the owners to be elected, similar to electing a JP.

Since the JP can be a company it does not really make sense to limit them to 4 years, do you have to keep changing company every 4 years? But I understand when one individual is JP and becomes a dictator then the owners must act to oust them. Not impossible if the majority of owners think the JP is acting against the interests of the building. The only time I hear of it being 'impossible' to get rid of a JP is when those owners can not even get 20% of the owners to support a change, ie a small group want to do things their way?

  8. 90 Day reporting on line - did it yesterday evening and it failed, but it was 91 days.

Did it this morning about 8am and got a reply at 9.08am to say it was accepted.

I followed the 90 day procedures linked in the 1st posting and it was painless if you do exactly as instructed but do note,

Use the drop down things - Chiang Mai is miss spelt. I assume if you spell it correctly the system can not find your address.

Since 99% of windows computers still have IE installed I used IE to do the report. Tried first in Firefox but you had to type a letter, wait 30 secs, type the next letter etc. Much quicker to start up IE and use that.

Do note the application number - long thing that allows for many trillions to visit Thailand each year. Although I think you can log back in using passport details.

This next bit requires checking and confirmation by others:

To print out the 'approved' notice (after I got my approval email) I clicked 'application (PRINT)' - and got a message saying immigration wanted to close the page. But you have to click 'download' before the page is closed - so reject the message about closing from IE and then download the approval notice.

Then you need to do it again to download the 'next appointment PRINT' - this download has the receipt of notification to put in your passport.

This is my first on-line report and follows a trip out of the country.

Fiddly, but better than a trip to promenade.

  9. I've made iplayer work in Thailand, but it is not easy and a hassle to use.

Download using p2p or torrents. Much quicker and more straightforward. Also you end up with a programme you can watch forever instead of just for 30 days and you can transfer it between computers / tablets - download with iplayer and you can only replay it using iplayer and only on the machine you use for the download.

  10. Reading this makes me wonder how many remember the MD11 flown by 12Go? Now that was a noisy plane.

Agreed, this year is worse than last year, more flights out to the north.

Funnily enough last year was worse than the year before, and I will predict next year will be worse than this year. Strange really.

Personally do not find much difference over the holiday periods, only a few extra flights. SongKran is the worse period for extra flights. Joys to come for the Baron!

  11. This reflects my opinion. After 3 weeks or so I am happy.

Have been having intermittent disconnections, just the sort of thing that is very hard to sort out. I got a call back from an engineer with very good English who did know what he was talking about. Said problem at my end so sent an engineer next day (it was already late in the day and I did have a connection). The engineer phoned before arriving and found a faulty cable that he replaced. Fingers crossed it has solved the problem.

Gone from 6Mb to 25Mb, don't see a great improvement on web pages but downloads go (or come) rather fast.

  12. I look at weather underground for historic weather information.

For Chiang Mai today (26th Dec) it says the record high was in 2003 at 31 C

The current temperature is shown as 32 C

I've been watching this month and many days had a record high of 30 C, but the maximum this year is 33 C so it must be a record year. This is significantly higher than normal.

Some of the days this month are now showing 2015 as a record high days. Have a look at the 24th December - along with the minimum temperature. The overnight temperature is some 7 C higher than the average for this time of year.
