Not everywhere, many mom & pop shops sold out.
I wonder if there is another reason why alcohol has been banned; domestic violence, which is rampant in Thailand and of course many other countries and in many cases the arguments and violence brought on by or flamed by excessive alcohol use.
It's worse now there is a ban!

I like a drink, and the ban is inconvenient. BUT, like me, I feel that 90+% of TVF members are not Thai and a huge percentage are males over 40 who like to drink at home most days.
HOWEVER, let's not forget that we are guests in Thailand and this ban has been put into effect to stop Thais drinking in groups, because most Thais who drink like to do so in groups, not alone like us farang. And when people drink, they drop their guard with regards to following sensible protocol.
Therefore, the ban is necessary and we (guests of Thailand who like to drink alone) just have to accept it. It's not going to last forever, and if it forces us to reduce our alcohol intake then that's good for everyone.
With your flawed thought process i presume you are in favour of banning somtam, or in fact all food types as the Thai people all sit in groups eating together spreading the virus.
Or of course, they can allow the sale of all products, and ban gather in groups!

Now WHO are going out and recommending the same. Let´s just scream again that they are lunatics and wrong too.
In reality, It looks like only the ones that can´t leave it alone for a short while are the ones that are wrong.Thai government and WHO have some things in common, corruption and ineptitude.

That and way easier visas procedures!!
Vietnam has just started cracking down on some visas, no 90 day issued now, or if issued you must report to immigration every 30 days, i understand.
I enjoy riding around the country and usually buy a 3 month visa, so a pain.
Hopefully they will rethink.

We all know that the consumption of alcohol encourages us all to do things we'd never do when sober. This will help to stop the spread as people will be more likely not to be stupid & ignore the bans in place due to covid-19, especially during Songkran. Anything that will help combat this pandemic must be adhered to like it or not! Remember that you are a guest here, believe it or not your behaviour will help to encourage everyone to comply, plus improve relations between us & the Thai community. We are all in this together, support Thailand in their hour of need, everyone here is scared for their families, many are split & unable to travel. Show some compassion & those that have no regard for others stop thinking about yourself for once! Stay safe everyone.
"My god, some of these posts are pathetic & beyond reason" .......Indeed!

No.
The governments logic that people gather in groups to drink is flawed, ban group gathering. But that is too hard for them, so the easy option is ban alcohol.
Iv'e heard that that are banning somtam too as groups of Thai people gather together to sit on the dirty floor and share plates of it, with the nice healthy benefit of smashed up crabs, freshly plucked out from the buffalo <deleted> infested paddy fields.
Good job!

I would love to hear the rationale for this move. Where is there any evidence that alcohol increases the spread, more than soft drinks.
It has nothing to do with the virus spread itself, but with a lot more people coming together, that could be true!
... I'm not criticizing what you daid ????it's just a simple reflection ????
So arrest to people who have gathered illegally, not people buying a few bottles to drink at home, difficult to think like that it seems! ????

What cost? What cost your health? How much are you prepared to pay for peace of mind?
If you are in Chiang Mai you can use Colonel visa agent (for example) directly opposite Immigration. Fee is 7,300 baht for a one year retirement extension and including four 90 day reports. That includes the Immigration fees.
That's cheap and well worth paying.

Why do you have to go to to the office every 90 days, post it,do online,or use an agent, try using a bit of initiative.
Post it and risk it getting lost?
Online if it works, if it 100% of the time I'm sure people would.
Paying an agent to report for what anyway? Why is there such a thing as 90 day reporting, are we all on bail here?

I have self isolated as much as possible, and if everybody would do that then the spreading of the virus would be smaller. You do what is absolutely necessary, and then you keep home. That is a way of showing that you understand the situation and want to do you part to help minimise the spread of the virus. Something that should be built in to every single individual.
They were behaving in the form of gathering in a place that should have been closed and were a group of people where almost nobody was wearing a face mask. Gathering in groups at one place is also something that pose a bigger risk for transfer the virus between people.
Question 3 is totally irrelevant to the rest of your comment on my post.
All Thai markets are not open, but many will continue as usual. That out of the reason to provide people with things they need. Entertainment venues is not included as a necessity. Neither is drinking beer in public during a virus outbreak.
The banks are taking safety precautions. That the Thai baht is still in circulation is because it has to be used on a daily basis. The choice to not handle any physical transaction with foreign currency at present time is also a precaution, that will help to lower the spread of the virus.
Get over yourself.

When I see fellow foreigners behaving this way, I feel the shame they put over all of us. That places would try to keep open anyway was expected, but that fellow foreigners can´t get of grip of the severity is totally unfathomable. Shame on all of you that are doing this, showing disregard and disrespect to your fellow human beings.Have you self isolated?
Have you been to a restaurant? To a shopping Center? Tesco? 7-11?
How exactly were they behaving?
Is the Thai government still sitting? Is that showing disrespect?
Are the Thai markets still open? Is that showing disrespect?
Thai banks refusing to change cash from abroad, but still allowing Thai money to be in circulation, is that respectful? Is it only our money taht can get infected?
Get over yourself!

Did you know the baht would crash from 75 to a pound to 39? One can make allowances, but that is a huge drop, add that to the banking crisis and the affects, it proves even with planning some things are outside of ones control.

For a start it should be illegal ( and enforced ) to rent any motorcycle to someone who cannot show a valid driving licence from their own country for the vehicle they are wanting to hire, in this case a motorcycle. This should be backed up by an international driving permit also endorsed for motorcycles. In addition , prospective renters should produce an insurance note from their own country that covers them for motorcycle accidents. Also the people renting out the motorcycle should have their vehicles appropriately insured. Decent helmets should be supplied with the vehicle in varying sizes and the police should come down hard on anyone, Thais or locals , taking a laissez faire attitude to the law. Loose fitting footwear , like flip flops , should also be illegal.
Sigh .................. way to sensible and draconion for
'my pen ry ' Thailand where money takes priority over road safety.
The pick up driver is also a apparent victim here. His vehicle is smashed up and he has accidentally taken the lives of two people. Something that he won't forget in a long time.
So as we all know , these little life and death vignettes are here to stay for the foreseeable future.
like flip flops , should also be illegal............snowflake alert <deleted>!

Coming to Bangkok for 15 years already. Three years ago decided to move permanently together with the family. If I have a chance I would kill 99% of motorcycle drivers. One second you look your left mirror, and they are there, and a second later those idiots are on your right cutting you to the left. Another idiots are delivery pickup drivers, they are just flying everywhere. Next group is Toyota Fortuner drivers, they also believe they can do anything they want on the road. Sick of Thailand, moving back to the UK in February.

It's a Scooter !!! About the most dangerous sorts of motorcycle you can get ! ... They just DO NOT HANDEL ! ... but well they are popular I guess .... d/t their ease to drive ! ... Even if you are taking such a greater chance being on any sort of major road on them.
... And yes as said above ... U-turns must be about the most dangerous maneuver on any Thai roads, .... And well, probably any road, anywhere I think. .... It is the only maneuver, that I have ever come close to buying it in !!! ... and more than once by a long way !!!
RIP and 100% relay, on that David. ...
Mark mark an old motorcyclist also, ... and I have ridden motor cycles for Oh ? about 45 Years now ... And am still riding ! .... But I DO avoid the highways. ... I have a car, and the side roads are very good around here, so I stick to them when on a motorcycle, like for doping the kids at school, ...
But ... out where Poor Old David lives, possibly the highways are more difficult to avoid. ? ...
It would be good for Old People to keep on riding Bikes I think ! ... But not on the Highways at all. Like Really High speed Traffic, ... Mixing with Very Low Speed Motorcycles, (And worse Scooters !) .... Not a good mix, particularly if the motor cycle is not driven by some one just 300% totally alert !!!
Like to be quite honest, how many 71 Year old Thais do you see riding motor cycles on the Highways ! ? ... Like doing u-turns, not just crawling along the as far to the Left side as you ca get ? ! ... Probably about none really, I would say ? ... Well, not any around where I live any way.
Why do you thank a scooter is the most dangerous type of motorbike? Did one attack you?

I agree about the elderly driving on motorbikes on Thai roads. My 72 year old friend even has difficulty walking and when he drives his motorbike he wobbles all over the place. Last year, a dog ran out between parked cars and he hit the dog and ended up on the concrete road with cuts and bruises. He was lucky. Next time maybe not.
A dog ran out and caused an accident, so your friend should stop riding. Maybe street dogs should be removed!
