  1. That what I thought from previously enjoying the CM university library pictures. The first picture shows a car that I think is a 1967 model.

    It's a 1959 Chevrolet Impala(?). A real classic: post-20094-0-81729300-1332237894_thumb.j

    / Priceless

It's a 1959 Chevrolet Impala(?). A real classic: How did such classic car get here from US ? We know the tax is high now but in the 50s ? Love to own it now.

  3. Put it on a bus at Ekkamai - just turn up and pay about 200 baht - they will take it and store it at CM bus station until u or a friend picks it up. I'm sending up a settee from Ikea 12ft long plus a couple of smaller packs for the cusions and covers.

No per-KG charges at all? I wasn't planning on shipping my full-size fridge but at that rate I might.

BTW found out the railway cargo shipping service is 4.5 THB per kg, you can send it the night before and then fly the next morning if you prefer, it's there by the time you arrive.

Sorry, for Chiang mai - read Mor Chi bus station. I'm not sure how they charge for it - but if I was u I would go there or get a Thai friend to phone them to ask. It also depends on if they have room in the luggage space, but they will hold until they have. I once saw a scooter being loaded into the luggage compartment of a bus at Ekkamai - I couldn't believe how they managed to get it in but TIT - where there's a will there's a way. I would travel with your luggage though if i was u but it should be safe as houses unaccompanied as long as it ends up in the right bus.

Send with Inter express logistics BkK-CMAI very cheap.pack in bubble wrap and they will take it to you new venue in Chiang Mai.allow 1 -2 days the revive it,Cost around 200-300/Baht on the items you listed. Its comes by road and will needs to be signed for in Chiang Mai.

  4. Sorry mate but if you went on tour in a Lambo you would probably get as far as the first road works or hole in the road. Its nice to dream but there is a reason why you do not see many of those nice motors on tour!

Well, I allow myself to disagree with this. Roads are rather good in Thailand. Some stretches very good.

It is great fun to drive such cars in Thailand, on the roads or in the mountains.

This is Amazing and it would seen Thai is not affected in world recession 2012

  5. I shall be coming to visit you soon!

well all TV members are welcome and the public also. I will start a new system in sk as all TV members who name there TV name will get 10% off the total bill order if buy direct from us.Now that's fair.Rob

is that only on food eaten there or 10% on purchases also? Maybe i'll have to give you 10% off on mexican meals at my house?!!?!

    Al

Good point 10% off all food products bought at Sausage King company
  6. I've heard it explained that way as well. Usually from Chiang Mai (to make this relevant) staff. According to the Labour Protection Act,

"'Working Day' means a day scheduled for an employee to work regularly.

'Wages of a Working Day' means Wages paid for working fully during normal working times.

'Minimum Wage Rate' means the minimum rate of Wages...'"

Other than that the Act is not specific about how a monthly salary would be caculated or I've missed it.

I've never seen anything in the Labour Protection Act about a paid day off a week. Lots of other rules and regulations about holidays and working on holidays.

I'd like to know if anyone else knows anything about this.

We at sk pay 300baht per day and still find near to in possible to get Th?? staff and we have the Thai insurance scheme ???? I just had a advert in a local news paper and we had 0 Th respond to this advert but had 25 falang respond to it ???

  8. When I am occassionally out in town things usually end up "blurred", but agree with TM, the picture from the setup in the Red Lion is tip top.

    Cheers,

    Pikey.

Its the only way to watch a game,Well done Kevin and will come and check it out.Rob.
  9. Thanks for pointing that out, add the middle ring sign and a bit more, now how's that.post-131333-0-11895100-1330820092_thumb.

And I'd add that the road shown below Rimping is the Middle Ring Road. Also, taking that clearly shown left fork is important. (I find myself invited for some reason to forge right all the time.)

And the water tower, coming from the south, is a great signal.

as long as you note that the "water tower" is a tall structure with a lot of large blue barrels on top of it... not a single container type of tower...

the soi entrance into SK is small and right along side of some small business structures... so if you are not looking for the water tower you might miss it on your left...(opposite the water tower, coming from the south).

If you are coming from the north... not sure how to handle, it... i come from the laguna swimming pool along the back streets and i noticed a sign pointed to SK... so perhaps he has it well marked from that side also.

Hi all yes we have been busy putting SK logo signs up all over locally to guide the customers to us with out the headache of looking for us for hours like the old place.Have to say a big thank you to ARISTIDE for making the map for the Sausage King and a big thank for the TV users who help correct the map with important info. The New venue is very easy to find and we have 17 signs up to guide you right to our gate.We will be starting food very soon during the day also. Another way to sk is go up the 1001 towards Majo and turn right onto 121 and first right again and there is a car showroom on the right corner and on the left corner is SK logo sign. Now follow the SK signs to our gate.Rob.

  10. What type of lens did they use? Were you given the option, or did they tell you "this" lens is best? Also did they give the prices for the different lenses, as this effects the overall price. many thanks.

Doctor Seree is the head surgeon at the Ram and is worth knowing that.Number 2 surgeon Doctor Lee but they also work in other hospitals also.I guess there are not to many good surgeons around and other hospitals share them like Lanna hospital on superhighway. The above are 2 very good doctors/surgeons

  11. I just passed it and also seen it in the moat, how it got there who knows as its rush hour and a lot of slow moving heavy traffic,You would need to gain some speed through the rush hour traffic to get to the middle of the moat.its between the New dukes and mikes burger section of the moat.Amazing ???

  12. 300 baht .. in Bangkok

  13. No no, from google map I just thought may be there is a road connection to it, if not I still need a land mark to get there.

According to the map the new place is located near Mu baan Suan Non Si ? Possible to access via the mu baan? Would be easier for me to plot on google map then

How would you access through the moobaan? Walk through someone's property and hop the fence? Just curious.

Hi Its possable to get to sausage king through Mu baan Suan Non Si but only by foot or motor bike as there is a little wooden bridge to cross at the back of my place. Its better to come the way i show,Also another way is go up the 1001 heading to majo and turn right onto the 121 and first right again there is a car show room on the right corner that you turn right plus thai food stalls.go stright down the soi and cross over the mini cross road and keep going and soi 13 is on your right accross from some water tanks on your left and the soi is at the side of a line of shops, its much more easy to find then the old place.if get stuck you can call us.053-127585 085-7060105 Rob.
  14. the map shows WHERE it is, but it does not indicate the best way to get there, say, coming from the Meechok intersection... is it the first soi (left) just past emperor 2 and then stay to the left? or is it better to enter thru 1001 side?

At the mee chok intersection coming from the superhighway turn right and 50m turn first left just after emperor 2 housing estate go stright down to the Y junction and keep left and we are soi 13 on the left about 1km after the Y junction.as a land mark look out for some water tanks on your right and our soi 13 is accross from that. its a short soi and only sk here with a large green gate and sausage king sign on it.any problems call us.Rob.(Nong Chom Village)

The Royal State Railway of Thailand

THE BUILDING OF THAILAND'S state railway system is generally accredited to the late King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) but in actual fact, it was his father, King Mongkut (Rama IV) who was the instigator of the project. King Mongkut reigned from 1851 to 1868 and, although the west will always remember him from the musical play "The King and I" he was actually a monarch of vision, setting the scene for the modernization of Thailand, which his son so ably went on to achieve.

One of those projects was the construction of the State Railway. At that time (1855), European colonization was under full steam. The British had already colonized Burma and Singapore and were looking for a foothold in Thailand so that they could shorten the trade routes between other parts of the Malaysian peninsular.

With this aim in mind, Queen Victoria sent a special diplomatic mission to Bangkok. Headed by the Hon. Harry Smith-Parks, the ambassador to the court of Siam, the British delegation were granted an audience with King Mongkut, on February 10th 1855, and among many gifts bestowed upon his majesty at the meeting, was a fully operational model of a steam driven locomotive and passenger cars. Through this gift, Queen Victoria conveyed her wish to construct a railroad in Thailand, stretching from the Andaman Sea to the Gulf of Siam. King Mongkut was an astute man however and fully realized the implications of such a project. Determined to resist colonization at all costs, he rejected the offer, informing Queen Victoria that Siam was not yet ready for such a transport system due to a time of great budgetary restraints within the Kingdom and a small population.

The seeds however had been laid and it was left to King Rama V, when he inherited the throne in 1868, to revive the project. The British were still wanting a foothold in Thailand and, despite the failure of the 1855 mission, Queen Victoria did not give up her pursuit of the project. King Chulalongkorn however, had been well briefed by his father and cleverly thwarted a number of attempts, including one notable event in which Queen Victoria offered the use of the British East India company to construct a railroad in Thailand. Mimicking his father, King Chulalongkorn replied "Siam is not yet ready for a railroad due to insufficient economy and a relatively low population." To that, he added a note that the Ox cart was the most common form of transport in the Kingdom and that it was quite sufficient for the time. This was however, just a stalling game.

King Chulalongkorn wanted a railroad and his dream was to link Bangkok with Thailand's second city, Chiangmai, in the north but was not prepared to lose his sovereignty over the project. Having stalled the British yet again, he consulted engineers across Europe and had a number of plans drawn up, but it was not until 1888 that he formerly commissioned a British engineer to conduct a survey of a railroad linking the two cities. As a result of that survey, a Royal Decree issued in 1891 gave the green light for the project to start. Five years later on March 26, 1896, the first link between Bangkok and Ayuthaya was opened and by the turn of the century, the line had reached Nakorn Ratchasima.

In 1896, on completion of the first stage of the project, King Rama V transferred the newly created Royal Railway department into German hands, a precaution intended to counterbalance an over strong British influence. Ten locomotives had been purchased from England for use on the Bangkok-Nakorn Ratchasima line but from that point on, until the completion of the line to Chiangmai, all other locomotives were bought from Germany and it was German engineers who completed the railroad. From Nakorn Ratchasima, the line went to Lopburi which was reached in 1901, Phitsanaloke in 1907 and Lampang in 1915 but King Rama V never saw the completion of his dream, dying in 1910 when the railroad reached Baan Dara junction in Uttaradit.

The final leg of the project was to connect Lampang to Chiangmai, however there were many problems to be overcome on this, the most difficult leg. The Khoon Dtarn mountain range, separating Lampang from Chiangmai, presented a formidable obstacle, which was finally overcome by the construction of a tunnel. The Khoon Dtarn tunnel, at 1.5 kilometers in length, is the longest tunnel in Thailand and construction started in 1907. Unfortunately the First World War interrupted the project when the German engineers were arrested and ultimately it took 11 years to complete, with the railroad finally reaching Chiangmai in 1919. The war effectively brought an end to German management of the railroad system and once again British locomotives were purchased, however, the dual gauge track and rolling stock was difficult to maintain and with an eye to furthering the network into Malaysia and Cambodia, Thailand decided to convert the entire network to meter gauge, the standard in south east Asia.

The great era of the railroad was superseded by the present age of the car and national budgets were diverted to the construction of roads. This effectively ended the expansion of the railway and plans to build a rail link from Denchai to Chiangrai and from Phitsanaloke to Mae Sod have been shelved for some time. The quadrilateral agreement between Thailand, Laos, Burma and China however, has opened the possibility of a second dawning of the railroad era trade links to these countries via a rail network being a distinct possibility.

Thailand owes much to King Mongkut, King Chulalongkorn and his successor, King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) for their vision and efforts in establishing the countries rail system. It is no surprise therefore, that the network was called "Rot Fai Luang" (Royal State Railway). After the second world war the name was changed to "Rot Fai Thai" (Thai State Railway) but in memory of its distinguished founders, the letters RSR in English, are still proudly displayed on all rolling bogeys.
