Good publicity stunt, I personally paid all my full time staff full salary and free accomodation until the end of the month and will review it if the bars do not reopen. I am sure many other bars are doing the same. I did not put my bar name down on purpose.

The Smiggley Arms, The Smiggley Tavern, The Smiggley Soapie, The Royal Smiggley, The Dog & Smiggley, The Smiggley Bar & Grill?

Got to one of those surely....

Gallons of it mate!! ????  But you do need to be careful using multisyllabic words to some of these guys - you might be responsible for a brain explosion!

Seriously, I'm led to believe that Nightwish now owns 2 bars on Soi Chaiyaphum (ak Soi Pothole). I think, Orange and/or Blue bars, though I'd be pleased to be corrected if I'm wrong.

    4 now I believe.

Good luck to anyone who runs bars in this town these days.

There are some great sucess stories but less each year

I don't need the bar to be so inviting, nor do I require the girls to be models, but if the staff can't even hear my drink order, because the music is so loud, then I get up walk out.

I don't know why The Nightwish Group managers, if you can call them that, insist on music that is so uncomfortably loud.

It's so loud because it needs to drown out any thoughts of 'what am I doing here?'

In truth I think the girls decide the music levels for the most part & we all know the old policy of playing music even louder because the bar is empty to 'encourage' us deaf old fellas to come in

  4. The online site allowed me to top up but not with my usual card which is a UK business mastercard (work calls) but it would let me use my UK personnel debit card.

I'm getting the earache with dtac so is it easy to change mobile (cell) providers here & keep my number?

If so can anyone reckonmend a company or are they much of a muchness?

I don't use data as that's covered by my work phone & I use an old samsung phone that just calls & texts.

  5. I topped up my prepay dtac last week online as I have been doing for years but tried today & was denied with the message "Only prepaid number is applicable"

My number is prepaid & always has been so can anyone advise me on what seems to a very recent issue?

dtac website is also loading extremely slowly

  6. I saw the big billboards & looked on their website but there is a serious lack of information about this international music festival in Pattaya such as where exactly is MAYA Space.

It's only a week away & the website links don't give any info.

Could this be a Thai version of the festival scam that happened in the Caribbean a while back

The 'location' link does not work nor does the 'contact' link when I tried

This twit feed says it's up by Horseshoe Point which may upset a number of locals

Controlling the inflow of funds is very difficult, Thailand is an export driven economy and over 60% of all export trade bills are settled in USD, selling that USD and buying baht is one of the problems. BOT's answer to that was to allow exporters to hold onto their USD for longer before being forced to exchange it for Baht, exporters are also being allowed to invest that USD overseas for longer. But if you're a Thai exporter you want Baht in your pocket, not as USD in an overseas account.

Ditto FDI, BOT issues bonds that represent the country's debt and it wants people to buy them, the main buyers are overseas buyers.

Lastly, the Baht would weaken if the country imported more goods, presently there is a trade surplus and more goods are exported than imported, as a result the current account is nearly always in surplus.  These things are not a bank problem and it's not for individual banks to control, putting in place currency swaps helps, as the government has done with China, which circumvents the need to pay for exports in dollars - loosening currency controls also helps because it reduces the need to repatriate funds quickly.

That will be nigh on impossible with the extreme import tarrifs imposed by the government on just about everything one would want or need.

  8. If there are feed right then the modern breeds should be fine.

Back in the day chickens were only eaten when the couldn't lay or had died.

They were keep for their eggs as that was a constant, healthy & very efficient means of protein & vitamins.

Killing a good hen was akin to killing the golden goose.

I got 2 full betagro birds in Tesco Suk the other day & they were delicious.

Shame that they had taken the giblets though.

On occasion Big C does duck liver & I take the chance to knock up a batch of pate at pennies compared to packaged pates.

It doesn't last long after I'd had a few scoops.
