  1. The mentality described by theblether is dying out fast.

I spend most of my time surrounded by Thai girls and none of them would marry someone they didn't love just for the sake of keeping their family happy, in fact the ones that are single are generally single because they are waiting for "Mr Right" (despite having many potential suitors pushed towards them by their family).

The Thai girls I know are no different in general than the Western girls I know, except for being shorter with tighter bums and smaller breasts.

also true, however mine has quite ample charms therefore she is different, no fried eggs here plsrolleyes.gif

  2. Blether I am never really sure what my wife thinks, I asked he after we were married a few years, why did you marry me, she said she didnt want to be alone she was 29 at the time i was 41, and later I asked her why she left Issan and she said because she didnt want to be poor. She worked for a chemical co. in BKK

So yes I kind of do think they look for a better future and the "love" aspect is not foremost as it might be for "us"

Having said that occasionally she grabs me in bed at night and says "love husband" so "who knows"

    Thats an order right ?

    Nahhhhhh

  3. So it all boils down to marrying for money not love.

    Here we go again.

I read it as boiling down to the practicalities of life

Yes I agree but it still boils down to money. Take his wealth out of the equation and she wouldn't look at him.

Hmmmmm not necessarily the wealth ,how about his/her potential later i life, maybe if you see someone who is hard working and give them a "leg up" then they run with it and work even harder.

Thankfully I have no inlaws both are dead.................I got a bargain!!

Ah to be able to read the mind of a lady.........I think that would be a curse to be honest rolleyes.gif

    Yours has a mind too!!!!!laugh.png

  6. @travelmann.......are you intending to farm fish in that big pond? Do you have an irrigation system in place? Is your area susceptible to floods?

The Wife's Sister will not so much farm fish but certainly have some in there, irrigation system will be installed, no flooding round here where I am is one of the driest areas in Thailand + my land is on a hill.

Eucalyptus trees are another over planted item in Thailand however Rainbow gum is a special case not grown for its timber more for its ornamental bark .

Rainbow gum looks stunning...........have you any photos of items which are made of it?

Eeeeeeeeek you mean murder a tree to make something.....................shame on you Blether you feeeeeelthy swine, the bark being renewed makes the colours the wood isnt multicoloured at all

  8. Tin foil hat time again me thinks....OP...yes the US and Thai miltary are secretly introducing chemicals into the atmosphere over Thailand which turn people into drooling zombies and turn the local women into raging nyphomaniac's, a further side effect is that all politicans in Thailand are rendered stupid...

..I strongly suggest you stay in the UK

Are you sure, how will we know about the politicians??

  9. I have some here in the UK whereabouts in Thailand are you I could bring some over . I am in BKK or will be on the 8th of October

I used it for going over Liberon finishing oil just before applying a liberon wax to a mahogany bannister here.

    Pm me if you want

  10. The settlement is basically so that the husband doesn't cause any problems with tourists warning them not to go to the zoo as it will be damaging for the company. Also it is a sign of respect for the zoo owner to make a cash settlement to the family of the deceased to help replace the income lost tothere house hold now she has past and he is of some right because it was on his land. no one would be liable because things don't work like that here if you piss some one off you don't get taken to court you get a bullet in your head!!

    A strange way to go...

(But why would the husband even make a comment of filing charges against the owners of the crocodile farm, they would not be liable for anything if she intentionally put herself in harms way and knowing this why would the owners make a "settlement" offer in the first place ?

    )

I am impressed..did you just make all this up on your own...rolleyes.gif

    1st post excitement

  11. I was down in Baku National Park, Borneo last year......and I took this photo from one of the higher vantage points......

    281794_235022269869436_1333659_n.jpg

It was a real pleasure and experience to overlook a forest in Borneo, a place that I think we can all agree has a magical connotation to it..........after a few days I took a boat trip to a Longhouse..........

    262492_235420686496261_5302955_n.jpg

Stunning natural scenery........but then on the way out of the forest I ended up walking around a Palm Oil plantation.........

    285407_235435183161478_2737850_n.jpg

Look how dead the soil is........this is the downside of eco-friendly fuels........they damage these guys.......

    282173_232110973493899_5168136_n.jpg

however we're seeing the same thing in Thailand, but Thailand doesn't seem to have a cuddly animal to head the fight back against deforestation.......sights like these are pleasing to the eye........

    More trees please!!!

Oil palms are BAD news really, a mono culture aint good anywhere.

A good tree you might like and the only Eucalyptus outside of Australia is the Rainbow gum, if you want some seed ( they sprout real easy and grow fast) let me know photo attached.

Or the pretty Licuala mapu pricey and hard to grow

  12. Looks stunning Travelmann.......where did the interest stem from? It's not a hobby one would expect from a Brummie. Fascinating smile.png

I'm away to google palm trees now.......

I have absolutely NO idea where it came from although maybe in the back of everyone's mind is an escape to a different place? tropical island? whatever, Thais dream of Switzerland so Ive been told?

Palm info ips website http://www.palms.org/ Thailand in many ways is an excellent place to grow palms, Hawaii even better.

  13. One large tree can lift up to 100 gallons of water per day.

    http://www.ncsu.edu/...th/treefact.htm

I thought I had picked up a figure like that previously cmsally.........that's a lot of water per tree. If you had to calculate the level of water required to keep an average forest in full foliage it would be a quite amazing figure.

@travelmann......very interesting, how many do you intend to plant? and over how many Rai?

Well?????????? as many as i can ( and wife allows), I have about 16 Rai overall although at least 1 rai now is hole!!.

It will be several hundred although palms come in many shapes and sizes, some are minute, others such as Metroxylon (sago palm many varieties) are massive and fast growing but die in maybe 15-20 years when flowering.

Palms are great they dont moan about anything yer just give them what they want and they reward you no end.

I grew many in the UK "Birmingham" had a great garden there photo attached for your perusal.

Low temps of around -7c in winter, yep some palms can handle this no problems.

  14. One complaint should be sufficient for both an arrest and the fine should be 1000 Baht.

A second offense should be the suspension of his license for 6 months plus a fine 3000 baht. if he the driver gets caught on a 3rd offense,

the fine should be 5000 baht, suspension license for 1 year, and 6 months jail time.

It would be nice to witness thru a video phone an actual arrest being made by a copper.coffee1.gif

In addition to that people with mofbile phone cams should snap a photo of the offending taxi driver the first time along with the license plate

and send it in to the coppers. coffee1.gif

I personally avoid Taxis like the Plague...If you can't go any where without the use of the skytrain, subway or public bus transportation, then

    your in sad shape.

    There are exceptions for sure..

The best thing to do is to make good friends with one or two taxi drivers, get their mobile numbers and only use them, and don't forget to

u tip them. It may cost you a bit more, but you will infact be treated fairly and you will not get SCREWED AROUND nor will you get the

    tourist route.

All you need is 2 taxi drivers to use all the time; no exceptions and they will pick you up.

I can see serious problems with this, all we have is the customers word he wouldnt take them how do they prove it?, you would have to video the entire scene and after the taxi departing with another customer.

Also there will be some people with vendettas against a taxi driver and get 3 mates to complain. cant see it working myself

  15. Make sure when you hail a taxi to open the rear door opposite the driver to tell him your destination...when he refuses leave that door

wide open so he has to get off his ARSE get out of the cab and close the rear door himself.coffee1.gif

    How very clever..............and juvenile.

I suppose you'd report him if he was enjoying a can of leo on a hot day, waiting for a fare.

nah only after he'd mown down a kid half drunk from his can of Leo....................even then I might not bother I dont want to spoil the land of smiles

  16. "Over the past three days, the department received 60 such complaints. There are also 11 complaints about taxi drivers dropping passengers off midway,"

So out of tens and tens of thousands of taxi rides every day there has been this avalanche of complaints? An entire 60 in 3 days.

Talk about a slow news day.

The other 400000 couldnt get thru..................they only have 1 line, and the other 14000000 know its a waste of time

  17. I think a lot of people mis-interpret/dont understand the sarcastic, ironic, p*ss take type post a lot of the time, certainly when there isnt a "smiley" inserted...one particular english speaking nation prevalent on TV seem to take a lot of these types of comments very literally...rolleyes.gif

i think a lot of people are thick.

a post can be concise and understandable without smiles, tone is something a writer can control.

besides, what is the point of being ironic if you have to wave a flag that says irony while you are doing it?

Yes but is there a "thick icon" just so I can be sure?

  18. is this for overseas flights? In my experience they are almost always booked to capacity.

Some good points that also help are literally arriving at the last minute but again you could also get turfed off the plane BUT what they sometimes do is ask if you could go on the next flight and they will upgrade you to business for your trouble. wearing a smart suit will do nothing staff hear this all day off economy passengers.. Ive been in business class many times and trust me some of the flyers look like they have come straight off a council estate and some behave like they have, in Dubai many rich spoilt brat Arab kids get on and treat the staff like crap in business class.

I have no experience of short haul flights I only use business for long haul so i can arrive half sane.
