  1. Surprised you report that the Deli is still open. He has been trying to sell for years. Very nice man ... downfall started when Carrefour opened ... the one way road system did not help much. This was my main shop for my first 10 years in Patong. Aways busy way back then.

Yes, he had the monopoly on exotic cheeses for years. Used to make us pay through the nose for it, too.

Not in my experience - his cheese and cold cuts were cheaper (and nicer) than Carefour ...

This was years and years before Carrefour opened.

Is the meat shop just sth on the other side that had the good ribs still open?

  2. i like rarbg for the latest releases, tv and movie.

there is really nothing on at all these days and now i heard GOT will not be back until summer next year! <deleted>

i've tried watching Mr. Robot which is highly acclaimed, but i find it kinda boring. i've been watching the good wife, which is a very run of the mill lawyer drama, but its easy watching it you have time to kill

Queen of the south, Ballers, Suits, Hell on wheels, Silicon valley, The secret agent...must be something you can view?

  3. they wouldn't be interested in tourists

    555...yeah, ok.

Have you ever been to Chiang Mai? The difficulties for tourists to hook up are quite well known. Anyone coming here looking for Patong style action is WAY better going to Phuket, Pattaya or BKK. I certainly wouldn't waste the time or money in CM. It's just NOTHING like Patong. Chances MIGHT be improved for those who can speak Thai.

Tourist pull options are generally limited to Loi Kro (and you'd need to be desperate to bother there), the highly dodgy karaoke joints or maybe some of the working or "side line" girls that work out of Zoe or Spicy. Outside of that there really is zero interest from the girls in tourists. Even in central places like Oxide and T Bar, I've only ever seen westerners in there once this year. Why? Nobody but nobody speaks English. Most girls are not working in the Patong sense and I've not met one that can speak ANY English at all. Zero.

But of course, as with anywhere, tourists are welcome to try. Good luck with that. For me, if I didn't live here, Chiang Mai would be below last on my list if I was looking for anything remotely like Patong. 5-7 years ago it was MUCH better. Easier. More choice. But with 12 o'clock shut downs, clamp downs and bar closures, it's had the soul torn out of it in that regard.

    Yes, lots of times.

  4. Need recommendations for a good, reliable limo service with a driver that understands speed limits and road laws for airport runs. (a clean new car would be nice)

    Chalong to airport, vise versa.

    Cheers in advance.

  5. from my understanding the private schools get a higher proportion of government funding so the level of education in the public schools is not very good. most people i know in australia do what they can to send their kids to private schools where as in new zealand it is not seen as being so important. i need to google the percentages of kids in private education between nz and oz.

I went to private in Oz but have loads of mates that were in state schools and have done very well.

Not sure about your government funding comment, thought the state schools would get more.

  6. in new zealand you can go to a public school and not be disadvantaged in any way. think it is different in australia.

Why do you think Australians are disadvantaged in their public school system?

  7. I forgot to add, KFC gives me the s$%ts here, but in america, I just don't go. But, if they opened a taco bell here and would accept whatever consequences and plan my days accordingly. Wear socks for wiping if the possibility of an urgent deuce while renewing my non-o at immigration. Worth it.

    Epic fail at humour.

The guy asking the question deservered a straight answer.
