  1. ok, not a tv show, a movie, but check out the Big Short, wow, what a movie, i never thought i could be so entertained learning about synthetic CDOs. makes you want to go out and kick a banker, awesome movie, best of the year.

Agreed, great movie, but i think Bridge Of Spies is a bit better (IMO)

  2. I get the feeling that Rawai and Naiharn recently got quite popular with the Thai population.

Saw loads of Thai famalies on Rawai beach eating or having a picnic as well as swimming on the left side of Naiharn beach during the past week.

    Quite nice.

It seemed busier because of that than the previous years. On the other hand I think there are less western foreigners around.

The Gypsie village feels every year slightly more like a drug infested crook hole. From the guys trying to charge you for parking on public land to some very rude beggars and dirty restaurant staff.

There's always lots of Thai families at Nai Harn on weekends, nothing new about that IMO.

  3. We ventured out a little after 10pm last night to see what was happening at the beach and Bangla for NYE.

Prachanukhro (from the point where Rat-U-Thit joins) and the Beach Rd were total gridlock. Once we reached the Beach Rd, we parked up on the footpath along with hundreds of other motorbikes.

The entire beach was loaded with people, which included a very significant number of Thais. Lots of fireworks and balloons being launched from the beach, and people selling drinks and food along the length of the footpath. I didn't see many people buying food, but the big seller seemed to be the light-up Minnie Mouse headgear. Progressing up to the Police box, the area from the footpath toward the water was barricaded, and this is where the NYE craziness started. Lots of people corralled in this area spraying each other with the multi-colored "silly string" and artificial snow foam.

Once getting across the road to Bangla, the entirety of Bangla was a mass of people. Very difficult to make one's

way along the road, and lots of people spraying anyone and everyone with the string and snow. The bars fronting Bangla

seemed to be packed with customers taking part in the spray-fest. We finally made it down to Soi Freedom where the

string and snow spraying was held to a minimum, and listened to the band for a while at our favorite bar.

Sometime around 1am we left Soi Freedom to head home. By that time, Bangla was a little improved in terms of being

able to walk from point A to point B, but there was still a lot of spraying going on. Looking down at the pavement,

I could see literally thousands of spent aerosol spray cans lying along the road. Walking along the beach footpath

back to the motorbike, there were mounds of garbage and empty beer bottles everywhere (both on the beach and on the footpath).

The traffic was still gridlocked on the Beach Road, so a lot of motorbikes were driving on the footpath trying to

    avoid the traffic.

It looks like it was a good night for local businesses, which is really needed at this point. I think I'm going to hold off going down

to the beach area for a while until everything is cleaned up!

So the same as its been for ages.

I think you'll find the takings are down, way down, this year, so, not "the same it's been for ages."

The bars that always make the big money on NY's eve did again this year, the st was packed to the point of being hard to move around for a few hrs, cans of spray stuff were everywhere, so yeah the same as it's been for ages.

  4. My motorbike trip around Rawai last night was normal same as last year.....

The only sign of Police activity was at the bottom of the hill near the Or Ba tor office same as every 7 days of What ever its called...

Flashing lights haplessly put in roadway...Police all sitting at table reading newspapers etc etc..Doing nothing basicly...

More of a traffic hazard than anything else....

    Cheers and Happy New Year

I'll second this and Jimi007, I rode to Nai Harn Beach in the evening NY's, rode back for dinner to somewhat central Sai Yuan, rode back to the beach for the festival and midnight fireworks, rode home, no cops, only brown shirt parking people.

    Thirded....

  5. Just DLing the first 5 eps of "Dickensian".

From IMDb: Drama set within the fictional realms of Charles Dickens critically acclaimed novels, bringing together some of his most iconic characters as their lives intertwine in 19th century London.

  6. He looks like he has some serious miles on the clock for 46. And he is going to have some seriously harrowing years ahead of him now.

I think the scandinavians have a transfer agreement that allows them to do 10 years here then the remainder at home. I hope in his case thats true. 10 years here inside would equate to a lifetime elsewhere

I hope he's gotta do all his time here and that it's max, was prepared to take the smack to his home to ruin lots of other lives, so in short f%$k him.

  8. In Phuket, approximately 30% of all road accidents are caused by drunk drivers.

Therefore approximately 70% of all road accidents are caused by sober drivers.

I'll let you figure out which is the safest state to drive in.........

I wonder what kind of education you have had. Your numbers are useless without knowing the actual numbers or drivers who drink and drive and who are sober.

Suppose there are 1000 drivers and 100 drink and drive and 900 don't. That would mean your three times more likely to have an accident when you drink and drive then when sober.

Guess its easier to pretend that drinking and driving is OK then actually using ones brain.

Pretty sure he wasn't being entirely serious.

  9. Detectorists.

Really good English comedy with MacKenzie Crook (Gareth from The Office).

    IMDB = 8.6

Same, really enjoyed the 1st and 2nd season plus xmas special of the Detectorists.

May have been said already but also enjoyed, Beowulf return to the shieldlands (series 1 episode 1) and "Bridge of spies" and "Sicario", good movies.

Also still really into The Romeo Section and for something completely different, Toast of London's a great bit of Brit humour(IMO)

  10. Save unsightly wiring and buy bluetooth speakes. Lazada have a range --->

    http://www.lazada.co.th/catalog/?q=speakers

I use Lazada all the time, pay cash on delivery, and they have a good truck tracking system so I know the day/time to wait in for the Kerry Logistics truck.

Cant you only operate 1 item at a time via bluetooth or are there bluetooth multi speaker system?

I'll second your Lazada comment, I use it quite often and (touch wood) have never had a problem, shipments are normally delivered quicker than advertised, I think every time I've had a delivery they've called in advance as well, bloody good IMO.

  11. There are no more scenic beaches in Thailand. Everywhere is trash, freaking dogs, dirty water and expensive service.

Maybe you will find what are you looking for on koh phangan, koh phi phi or well known mafia island koh chang, but stay on official tourist sites, otherwise it's not better than Phuket

On the other hand junta is trying to bring back the lost fame. Hookers and all types of scummers has disappeared from the most popular tourist places, situation is better than, let's say 2 years ago, but compared to other popular resorts closer to Europe or USA, Thailand is way below average.

This country is well-worn and hackneyed, absolutely nothing to see here anymore, even though the potential is huge.

You obviously have no idea what your talking about.

  12. Have just DL'd:

Blindspot S1, Empire S2, Homeland S5, Quantico S1, The Bastard Executioner S1, Limitless S1, The Last Kingdom S1, The Blacklist S3 and Brooklyn Nine-Nine S3.

    Obviously all incomplete.

Have only watched 1 episode of The Bastard Executioner and don't mind it.

  13. I hope that Netflix will join to Asia market really soon, because the have really amazing TV shows. Like for example House of Cards or Daredevil.. really recommend if you've got access to netflix platform. Now I've just started to watch Narcos, it's really good series too.

Can download all the Netflix stuff from lots of different torrent sites
