  1. Are these the quality tourists that TAT were on about ?

Too right. Thailand should be reserved for the more civilized white people who travel extensively and know how to behave and not offend local customs.

This behaviour is something that no Europeans would do, let's ban all the Chinese because some of them don't behave like we want them to.

I'm guessing that the blaze of indignation was from Thai "netizens".

Do you not agree with them? I certainly do.

With over 1.35 billion of these charmers on their doorstep a few "tats and fats" are the least of their, or my, concerns.

If they stopped coming Thais will lose money. The more Chinese that come the better for the Thai economy and the Thais in general. More VAT collected. Hotels and staff, tourist attractions and staff, prawns farmers and their workers and communities and just about every other type of farmer, bed linen factories (chonburi), taxis, tuk tusk, bus drivers, mechanics, it is endless.

    .

It'd be nice if the vast majority of Chinese tourists weren't on package tours that involve paying everything up-front in China before they fly.

King Power, Large latex company's and a few other wealthy familys/companys are the ones making the money, the flow on's miniscule.

  2. Pattaya: The only international city in Thailand . The most interesting city in Thailand. Pattaya possibly the most criticised city in the world by people who have never visited the place. Having spent 50 years visiting other cities all round the globe Pattaya is the only place I can relax in with lakes - parks- mountains - temples- beaches - cheap food- top restaurants- nightlife - A senses of warmth and shared fun amongst the expats...All these things - the real Pattaya never make headlines.

    The story's about Phuket.

  3. Whats funny about it, don't most countries have a volunteer defence service or some kind or another?

Perhaps you don't live here, or are recently arrived, there is NO volunteer defense force, they are conscripted.

Live here and have done for a long time, are you quite sure they're not volunteers?

Some very senior looking "Conscripts" in some of the pics going around!!

  4. We visited "Sirinat National Park" yesterday (which is at the airport, north of Nai Yang beach) and it was a fun trip. The waves were very small at certain areas which made it much easier to swim for my dog. Also the seabed was very flat so i could walk her in without a need to get fully wet.

Not many people there and no dogs roaming around, only when coming too close to the landing strip of the airport the dog got scared of the noise (while I enjoyed those huge planes flying 20 meters above the beach).

Do keep in mind that it is a national park, so we paid 100 baht entrance fee (only foreigners need to pay). Guess i will go in from the north road next time as they did not have anybody at that entrance point to collect the fees.

I do keep coming back to the dog pool also, as it is much easier for me to get my dog to exercise at the pool compared to the beach: she follows me in the water on the beach but does not swim that much in total.

Do you guys let your dog run loose on (quiet) beaches?

I do, he's a very tame dog, loves everyone and only wants to play with other dogs, not fight but we always have his leash with us as well.

  5. 34 on the stoop in the shade at 4pm. I was surprised at how cool the air was this morning around 6ish, hopefully more of that early tomorrow.

I'm up for an ice cold Red Horse, of course. Wonder what he hi-so folk are drinking to stay cool?

    Tall gin and tonics..........

Do you only drink shorts these days!!

  6. Thailand has made some very good movies...Mundane History, Shutter, Ploy, Bangkok Dangerous, Headshot, Tom Yum Goong, and Uncle Boomanee are quite impressive...

Bangkok Dangerous...are you serious or did you add it just because of the lead actor?

    The movie was beyond garbage.

  7. Take Chaofa Road East heading towards Phuket Town. Approx 2 Kms down on the right hand side there is a really good metal fabrication shop. Not far from the Yacht Club entrance. If you get to the lights for Sun Palm Villa's you have gone too far

    Job done, cheers.
