PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra Reassures Safety of Chinese Tourists
Neeranam replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I remember his father, Sanoh Thienthong, a very successful Chinese businessman/Politician. No wonder the Chinese get preferential treatment to us Westerners. -
Intersting, back in 2004 a Shinawat called Square head transformed the visa system, increasing visas from 500 baht to 1900 baht. Also PR went from 19k to 190k. His daughter now is up to similar things, under the guise that it is beneficial for foreigners. These ethnic Chinese Thais are totally against foreigners having rights in Thaialand, with a passion.

The more I think about, these different departments don't like dealing with each other. In Thailand, every official has their own little kingdom and when head of other little kingdoms encroach upon theirs, there is conflict, partly based on the strict hierarchical social structure but also on Thais' non-confrontational 'rules'. For many years, the Dept of Labour refused to tell the Dept of Immigration if someone handed back their WP, for example. Laziness, shyness, and most importantly, "greng jai", not wanting to put other people 'out' by giving them extra work/headache, etc. Immigration were clever and employee many agents to take the bribes from foreigners, whom they don't particularly like dealing with, especially in areas of 'Thainess'. I could list many more example, like the Special Branch police not wanting to talk to the Ministry of Interior when I became a Thai citizen. This, like many other things was due to the Military govt, and especially the great General Anupong cracking down on police corruption. All departments are corrupt, and have their own rules, so the likelihood of Bank officials liaising with Immigration or Revenue Department is highly unlikely, but... there is an opportunity for them all to make money off the naive foreigners who will eagerly giving in to intimidation or extortion(particularly from the highly corrupt Immigration Police) by any one of the departments, who will use agent scum to do their dirty work. As we see, the foreign charlatans, who are working illegally if giving Thai tax advice and the agents are starting to rise from the bottom of the pond.

Trump’s Inauguration: A Gathering of Global Far-Right Leaders
Neeranam replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Ant-Trump supremacists, they were brainwashed, "anyone but Trump", "all his supporters are hillbillies, we are the educated class and therefore our vote counts more". Pathetic sore losers. Just a few months ago they were saying Biden would make a good president for another 4 years, totally deluded. -

Sour grapes? The nest man one, do the patriotic thing and stand behind the Democratically elected president and stop whining. -
UK Envoy Announces Major Plans for 170-year Thailand Ties
Neeranam replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Thailand has basically used the UK for its own benefit. Remember why the Victory Monument was built? Most people haven't a clue. It celebrates the 'victory' of the Franco/Thai war(1940/1), of which Hitler supported Thailand and had provided most of the military equipment. At the same time, Pibul Songkram was coercing with Churchill and previously Chamberlain to keep Thailand neutral. A great nationalistic balancing act. -
Trump’s Inauguration: A Gathering of Global Far-Right Leaders
Neeranam replied to Social Media's topic in World News
As a former Thai history teacher, I see many similarities between Trump and Pibul Songkram. Songkhram had strong nationalist policies, he modernized Thailand and promoted Thai culture through policies that emphasized national identity. He changed the country's name from Siam to Thailand, symbolizing unity and independence. Trump emphasized "America First" policies, economic protectionism, and prioritizing American interests over global alliances. Songkhram used state-controlled media to build a strong image of himself as a modernizer and protector of Thai sovereignty. Trump used social media, particularly X, to directly communicate with his base, bypassing fake media and shaping his public image. -
Trump’s Inauguration: A Gathering of Global Far-Right Leaders
Neeranam replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Sigh, stick to the facts, Project 25 has nothing to do with Trump, your politicians used it as a weapon to ruin Trump's chances, nothing was too low for them to stoop to. And they still lost Respect the process and support your Democratically elected leader. Trump has publicly distanced himself from the initiative, calling unspecified Project 2025 ideas “seriously extreme.” Project 2025’s proposals for right-wing policies and a radical reshaping of the executive branch have become frequent targets of Democratic criticism. https://edition.cnn.com/2024/07/24/politics/fact-check-harris-project-2025-trump/index.html -

Nothing wrong with Nationalism. Long live Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, and Donald Trump! In the UK we need another Winston Churchill or Benjamin Disraeli. -

The opposite, he has more money than he could spend in a lifetime, he is doing this for the good of the USA. He'd much rather be on on of his top-class golf courses every day. Nothing wrong with 'far right'. Far-right ideologies can eradicate traditional, corrupt, out of touch political establishments. -

Imagine, a drug mule and he'd be better off if he'd been caught by Thai customs. -
I am leaving Thailand - yes taxes!!!
Neeranam replied to Celsius's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I'm leaving Thailand as I remember there was a tsunami a few years back, which means there is the chance it could happen again in the next few years. Although I live in Khon Kaen, I've been thinking of visiting Samui once a year. I've had it, living in constant fear of my own shadow. -
This whole nonsense reminds of some people I knew who thought they had to get an alien certificate, which was actually required by law(but ignored) until a few years ago - only migrant workers were routinely asked for their alien cert, never farang. These foreigners were told they didn't need it as it would cause so much work for district office personnel, as well as they don't like speaking to foreigners/tourists who are not fluent in Thai. Some lawyer who lived near me, got a bee in his bonnet and upset the local amphur by demanding that foreigners get the pink card that migrant workers must get. This caused a lot of confusion where foreigners now go through hoops to get something that is practically useless, and Thai people laugh at(farang having a card the same as their Loatian labourer or Burmese maid)

Says who? I advise foreign retirees to do nothing, the RD are not interested in them in the slightest, their Thai bank is not interested in whether or not they are registered with Thai RD. It is only charlatan foreign agents who are spreading the misinformation for their own profit. There is nothing much in the Thai media/social networks about low income people, apart from some menial workers abroad wondering if they have to pay tax in Thailand, which they don't. The removal of the loophole and for Thais with foreign income is only relevant to very rich people remitting sums of say 10 million baht regularly, this is when the bank may raise an eyebrow; they are not under any obligation to report people to the tax authorities. Foreign retirees remitting 100k baht a month or whatever is of NO interest to Thailand whatsoever, except the bottom dwellers preying on old, naive farang. In fact, if you stupidly go and get a Thai tax ID number, you are doing more harm than good, but giving the message to Thai government that you want to pay something.

Polish man arrested for spanking Thai woman’s bottom (video)
Neeranam replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Thais are generally very compassionate and the victim shows this by dropping charges. If he had touched my bottom, I'd have probably not reported it to the police. -
Would you believe it? Just done a search in Thai and there is absolutely NOTHING in the internet about foreign retirees having to pay income tax in Thailand! proves beyond reasonable doubt that these charlatan companies, as well as English press, are causing undue concern for financial gain, or clicks.
