  1. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do with the bank at the moment; even if you would like to change the OTP into a "Second Password" option, you need at least one time your phone for an OTP.

The only thing you could do is contact the call-center of your Thai mobile-phone-provider and ask for International Roaming.

If there is not enough balance on your phone, explain the difficulty and as soon as they release the IR roaming for you, put enough THB on your phone.

From there you can use your online-banking with OTP's.

Of course you could try through the call-center of the bank to achieve the same, but they will insist on copies of bank-book, passport, etc by fax.

Don't try to solve this by email.........you won't get an answer.

  2. KTC asks for a minimum of THB 15,000.............Thais only.

The same bank asks for a minimum of THB 600,000 per year for foreigners.

I've been in the process of getting a cc at Kasikornbank........very difficult.

    Same with SCB......very difficult.

    They both want ridiculous guarantees.

I ended up with an American Express Corporate Card......of course I needed a work-permit and a salary of at least THB 50,000 per month.

A good alternative are the so called Web-cards. Those cards are debit-cards, but suitable for online purchases.

You deposit a certain amount from your bank-account onto the Web-card and you can use it for purchases.

Dis-advantage: The amount on the web-card is under no circumstance insured.

    A good example is: http://www.kasikornbank.com/EN/Personal/Debit/Pages/KWebShopping.aspx

  3. Let me calculate:

From Banglamung to Petchaburi Road is THB 105 for the Bangna-Trad stretch and another THB 5 somewhat further up the road. (Total THB 110)

From Petchaburi Road to Banglamung is THB 45 to enter the express-way system at Petchaburi Road and another THB 65 at the end of Bangna-Trad expressway in Chonburi (THB 110)

    Back and forth....same price.

I think that the major difference is (as described in another post) the system of paying a fixed amount at the toll-booth or a stretch dependable amount when entering/leaving the expressway.

  4. My understanding is that as Gone said above you have 7 days to return the item to the store where you bought it. After that you have to take up any issues you may have directly with the manufacturer under the warranty that usually comes with an electrical item. That's what I have been told whenever I have bought something at Tesco Lotus, anyway.

    Is that correct?

    Correct.

The Thai Consumer Protection Act (yes.....there is one) says that most purchases can be returned within 7 days.

Upon purchase.......please check the date on the receipt and take care that the staff fills out the guarantee-form incl. signature, date and stamp.

An extension of the 7-day-period is possible if you buy with a credit-card which has a 30-day-money-back-guarantee.

It may be obvious that items such as food, underwear, swimwear, etc can't be returned.

  5. Did it ever occur to you that the farang version of the dish might be a larger portion?

This is a legitimate point. A lot of Thai restaurants do serve bigger portions to Westerners and the price is not any more expensive based on the amount of food.

I pay at a barbershop THB 120 and the Thais pay THB 80 (and do receive a proper shave + neck massage).

Reason for my higher price (given by staff): Farang have bigger head and more hair.

deal with it or find a new barber.

On this issue, my barber as well has double pricing and I have never bothered to pull out my ID or even argue the point. I just don't tip on top of it. The price difference is only like 20-30 thb if I remember and my son gets the child's price which is less than a thai man pays. This has never bothered me and if it did I certainly would find a new barber. If they were trying to charge 2-3x the thai price then I would probably pull out my DL and ask for the lower price but for $1 I'm not bothered.

Did I say that I'm bothered? It's just an example of double-pricing.

  6. The wife went back to the shop with a problematic phone; she didn't went back with the intention of resetting it.

The "imbecile" behind the counter suggests to reset the phone and assumes that everybody knows that that means that all data will be lost.

Even if you know that and tell the "imbecile": Please reset without data-loss...............a big sooorrrry will follow after you find out that the data are lost after all.

Thai know (and in the meantime a lot of foreigners know) that a Thai never gives information out of the blue. On very rare occasions someone is willing to think ahead and give you useful information without asking for it.

  8. The Thai traffic law states, that all cars should use the left lane, pass other cars on the 2nd or 3rd lane and move back to the left lane. The law is there, but as with all other laws in Thailand........hardly enforced.

However, I saw a letter from the highway police in our office, with a nice picture of one of our trucks, driving on the middle lane (out of 3). We were fined THB 1,000 for doing so.

On the other hand; you are allowed to pass other cars on their left side under circumstances. (slow moving and 3 or more lanes).

  9. A few weeks ago a was heading for Singapore from Suvarnabuhmi AP.

After passing the immigration counter I passed a table with a lot of flowered boxes, small trunks, bags, etc.

The immigration officers behind the table were convincing the Indians (who were interested), to buy some since they were a lot cheaper than the same products in the King Power area.

Again, another reason to say: "This must be Thailand!"

  10. What ever happened to the good old fashion " Fill it up please" coffee1.gif

That's what the guy in the Ferrari said a few years ago.........and they filled it up with whatever they thought was good...........it wrecked the engine of the THB 24 million car.

  11. I have just been looking at allclear insurance.com based in Romford, UK. There is no age barrier and they will cover pre exisiting conditions according to the site, it might be worth a look, I have no idea of costs or what they have to stay about UK residency, most insurers will expect you have been resident in the UK for the previous 90 days.

    Errors found in web application

  12. E85 is much cheaper but the fuel effiency is very bad.. You will need to fill up your tank much often. Do some search online on the subject..

    That may be true.

At the moment I fill up with gasohol 91 and to be honest, I notice no difference.

Still do 1 liter to 18 km with my Vios.

But yes, that could be 1 to 19 or 20!
