martijn, welcome. Chiang Mai has some non-native English teachers who are better than some native speakers. You should get a TEFL cert (such as from our sponsor, SEE TEFL).

My daughter did her student teaching at a middle school, and stayed on for almost ten years. Aside from being asked for her hall pass (she resembled an 8th grade girl), the school was very well run. She became science chair; then her boss became principal of the Gifted-Talented Magnet High School. His replacement was totally incompetent. She played her cards right and now teaches at that magnet school.

How much a Thai teacher earns is irrelevant. Thai teachers of angrit generally cannot teach TEFL - cannot pronounce, listen, read or write English. They don't spend money on work permits, visa runs, Thai Culture courses, visas. They don't need to fly to Pittsburgh or Devon to visit family. They can own homes in Thailand, etc. They have tenure....

Ángel is murdered by a Mexican general in Mexico City. Martin smears Ángel’s blood and brains on the cardinal of Mexico, and passes out. He hides in Chiapas until he escapes to Xantiak in SE Asia, with help from the aged queen’s grandson. Masquerading as an English teacher in a refugee camp, Martin has a six-month affair with a gay teacher, followed by gay marriage to the 18 year old cousin, Pax. Martin rescues the 500-year dynasty by publicly endorsing the new young king. At the death of a famous Asian pacifist, the king, Martin and Pax attend her funeral wake. Martin is killed on a general’s orders.
