OP should have made clear to the woman the cultural implications of this dinner.
In fact, what OP complains about is that he lost face.
Ignorance and Rudeness can't be justified,by claiming Cultural implications,

Great, it's obvious that they don't give two hoots about the country, just their own interests. I'm in favor of them being arrested and put directly in jail if they disturb the peace... any 'shirt' color that protests should be jailed. This is not helping Thailand. If you want to battle, do it in court!
So you favor eliminating the civil right to protest? Really? Maybe you should move to Burma or N. Korea.
Maybe you should stop assuming. I am not against legal, peaceful protest. If you still have any memory or are capable of reading, perhaps you could/should see what the PAD did the last time they got pizzed off... occupied the airport, which would be an act of terrorism in some other countries. Try that in the US or UK and see what happens.
Compared with Thaksins Red Shirt Terrorism,
it was merely a minor offence, and a Peaceful Demonstration.

First time I have ever heard of a Scam that needs to be Registered,
It's not known as"Amazing" Thailand for no reason.

Ms Yingluck said the government must build temporary dykes in the area to protect industrial zones and has set up an operations centre to help flood victims at Don Mueang Airport to resolve critical flooding as soon as possible and prepare for yet another incoming storm.
Can dykes (canals) be built in already flooded areas of land, seems like a long job to me which will take longer than, for the water to subside, and take us into the hot months?

I feel sorry for the Farang husband, with a dozy wife like this,
it's like being scammed by Proxy!
Divorce! before she drains away all his money, and property
-
The sad thing is believe the goverment is going to use the cost of the floods etc as an excuse to renege on all their election promises, in some respects the flooding has done them a favour from a political stand point.....
Don't give them ideas mate,
you could be right!
-
Excellent,
Magazine quality!
-
As you were not injured,I can't see what good it would do,reporting it to the police, other than antagonise more.
Lets face it , Farang popularity has been on the decline for at least the last ten years, IMO.

My Thai wife's parents back in the village made a big thing of the fact that students would all have Apple iPads if the new Government won power
My wife said nothing as she has no right to an opinion in her village although she is Uni educated
But later said to me, that will be lucky to even get a cheap Ipad cover
The sad part is her village still believes all the things they promised will come
Why is your wife not allowed an opinion in her village?
simple, its a RED village
no descent is allowed or else!
And Democracy will come to them about the same time that Thaksin makes them all rich!

Employers want the B300 to include overtime. How many hours / day do you have to work to get B300? Pick a number between 10 and 24.
OR sorry, no overtime today, wages reduced proportionately.
And how does reducing SS contributions by 1.5% of salary do much to offset a 40+% salary increase? All it will do is maintain roughly the same contributions to the scheme.
Pay B200 SS @ 5% = B10
Pay B280 SS @ 3.5 % = B9.8
I've said it before on more than one occasion but I'll mention it again. Why isn't the minimum wage based on an hourly rate as it is elsewhere?
I'm sure it makes more sense.
Something else I've just noticed. The headline reads Across-The-Board Hike Of 40% Likely Today: Thailand Minimum Wage but it appears it's not starting until January 1st.
The easy answer is: a Barman starts work in a Hotel at 7 am,does his bar stocking up and cleaning duties and prepares to open the Bar at 10 am,works serving in the Bar until the last customer goes to bed at 2 am the next day.
Total hours worked = 19 hours, same pay as working for 12 hours, normal Bar hours.
If he is very lucky he may leave and go home 11 or 12 oclock some nights for the same pay.
The above is a true example,of exploitation by employers,
and that IMO is why they do not pay by the Hour! because it benefits the employer too much.
Be a little realistic please. Are you saying that he will back at work 5 hours later? Most Thais seem to work a 60 hour week, in my experience. Shifts tend to vary in length, and are sometimes split, but longer shifts usually are balanced by more time off.
My neighbour works at a Samui resort, and sometimes has extra hours to meet a late flight, but gets time off to match the next day - they do not pay overtime.
Receptionists at the Pink Lady Hotel, Had Yai work 5 x 12 hour shifts, rotate through day and night.
My g/f worked at a non-girly expat bar - 2 girls starting 1 at 1500, the other at 1800 for 6 x 8 hr shifts per week. They rotated the early start/finish, 1 day off/week where the other girl worked alone.
Yes that is what he told me,as stated, there would be other nights when he finished before midnight.
My main point was: not being paid by the hour, suits the Employer, but definately not the Employee.
And also allows another malpractice,i.e if a monthy paid worker quits his job in the middle of the month, some unprincipled Employees,do not pay them anything.

Owali said following insecurity, unprovoked harassment, sustained assault, arrest and extortion of money from Nigerians by Thai security officials, several Nigerians had decided to go underground.
The more examples of Karma I see,the more I believe!

Bit like tv that way, you can leave but not really
Yes just like the "Hotel California" You can check out anytime, but you can never leave.

I don't think anything is really deleted on these social networks like Facebook. Whatever was deleted really just goes into a Deleted/Trash-bin folder where the data can be retrieved from if needed and allowed. And of course we all know a hard drive can be wiped clean and with the right software the data can be recovered. So, whatever a person posts, he/she should plan on that data being around for a long time....mabye just living in a Deleted folder....maybe long after you wish you had never posted it...and long after you think you deleted it.
One of the many dangers in using FaceBook,
just like the Big Brother System, you are never truly out of it's clutches

What a sad, sick, raving mad, lunatic, old dictater,
He murdered his own people, and ran the once booming Country,of Zimbabwe (formerly) Rhodesia) under the Ian Smith Government, literally into the ground,he survives on rigged ballot box votes,at the point of a gun,and should have been deposed many years ago.
He gained independedence, and slaughtered the white Dutch Afrikaneers (the working backbone of the Country that ran Plantations for 150+years) and drove the survivors out of Zimbabwe, only to see the Lush farmland and Plantations become Jungle once more, within six months, and his people surviving (some) on Foreign aid,for many years of his rule.
Like all true Greedy,Megalomanic, Dictaters,he refuses to see his faults and ridiculous decisions, and the harm that his bloody rule, has done to his people/virtual slaves,(anyone see a resemblance to another budding,up and coming Dictater, frequently discussed on Thai Visa)
And now Magabe has the outrageous, audacity to seek compensation for his acts and atrocities.
May he rot in hell for all eternity!

Unless they have tightened up the aplications for "Farangs" then you may have an easy ride (no pun intended)
As for me:
perhaps I was ultra lucky a few years ago,I waited to get called out to go up to the window, and lo and behold,a very nice Lady called me into her office, and gave me two forms to fill out (one for a car and the other for a Motorcycle licence),showed her my clean UK Driving Licence, and she commented on no Endorsements, "You good Driver" many would disagree with that comment? finally after a pleasant 30 minutes chat, she took me up to the desk / window (even though there were many still waiting) ,and I was dealt with instantly, and came out with both licences.
Lucky or what?
Further Development:
A few months later,my wife and I went for her Car Licence, and she didn't get the same treatment,as me,but at the time "Farangs" were still a novelty,in that area of Thailand!

Here's a thought - rape is one of the most unreported crimes in any country, worldwide. So if they actually caught all the rapists and all the drug traffickers which side do you think will be larger?
My guess is that it will not be 7:1 as today's proud news boasts, perhaps it would be exactly the opposite and people would wake up and stop listening to the bullies.
Just a thought.
Or pure speculation?

In comparison with what Farangs normally say about Thai people on Thai Visa, racism at this Amphur is marginal and footling.
Not to mention Blatant!

But General Sonthi, the leader of the coup is now retired, actually an MP now.General Prayut maybe interested in your theory, but how can invalidate Thaksin's conviction?
Thaksin's trying every way to overturn his conviction, the 2.5 million people petition,( the personal appeal), possibly sumitting his name in a mass pardon on the King's birthday, citing his age-over 60 as a reason, and this group of 7 Thammasart lawyers, Nitirat, is another channel.
I'm not disputing your thesis although it's debatable of course.
I am however disputing your suggestion that Nitirat is an agency for promoting Thaksin's interests. It isn't and your suggestion is just plain wrong. You could argue that these Thammasat lawyers are naive or playing into Thaksin's hands, but that's not the same thing at all.
It is amazing that anyone or any group who holds an anti-coup view or a pro-democracy attitude is accused of aiding Thaksin. So to be anti-Thaksin you must support coups uncritically and want to see democracy stamped out.
Basic English:
The words: Thaksin and Democracy, should never be used in the same sentence!
-
Yes, hammered. And the two most important words you mentioned are, "2 months"... The short time this administration has been in office but barreling along on the fast track to try and clean up the mess left for the past 3 years... And the country's coffers??? A completely other side-subject that should be have new thread, "Where did all the money go???"
Has there been a suggestion that it's gone?
What have the PTP done to clean up any mess? They haven't done anything, let alone cleaning up previous messes.
Here's a drop in the bucket...
The Link doesn't work?
-
Haven't the PTP ever heard of "Opposition Party" and Democracy?
That's what the Democrats are there for, pointing out the errors, omissions,Lies and excesses to the people,
of course they are looking for excuses to GAG the Democrats,so they can have a free hand, with no comebacks.
PTP and Democracy,was/is never going to happen!

Bet Majic reads The Guardian ,now that is a left wing lying rag.
No Sorry i've never read it.
but ageed,it does have an extreme reputation as a left wing newspaper!
Wasn't lying when it exposed the phone hacking scandals with the collusion of paid for cops carried out by the lying right wing Murdoch press.
Now that's another Story,
Murdochs papers have a History for controlling British Politics, and making or breaking a Partys election chances, maybe the "News of the World" was the ageed sacrificial Lamb? to save further investigations, and embarressment?
Mind you, The Guardian on Sunday sales must be up?

How right you are!
First we have the all Red Villages, and now Red Districts,Thaksin sure is Consolidating his Army.
Why is it I have this Gut feeling we may be witnessing the Birth of a Civil War?
Pray God i'm wrong!
