Maybe this is stating the obvious but if one really has that kind of money and are doing business at that level in Thailand you need to be putting in serious time cultivating a group of higher ups to intervene and protect you when things head south.  This is the "Thai way" and it works most of the time.  Its not true that money alone will assure you of this support, money is simply the price of entry, a seat at the table.  It's about building mutually beneficial relationships ... and getting off ones backside learning to speak Thai reasonably well.

You mean he should go from being a legit, legal business man in his country, to joining up, cowing down, playing ball with, and paying off, Government gangster's, and technically becoming a gangster, briber of officials, gangster thug himself, just to, "get along" and avoid being robbed???.. He wasn't doing business in Thailand, (at least not from the reports)... He moved here to retire, from a LEGIT business he ran in Holland, only to be ROBBED by not some shady, back-room thugs,, but GOVERNMENT officials, and the "justice" system,,,

OK OK calm down. What did I say? He obviously didn't think he needed to. Or in other words. EXACTLY phew, you get your head blown off for quoting the obvious here.

Still. Its the law of the jungle. I am living in a different even more dangerous jungle at the moment and to have a friend who has influence in emergencies, deserved or otherwise, is not a bad thing as this case seems to point out. The Forrest Gump, sh. . t factor, can happen anywhere. With disastrous consequences.

Obviously thought he didn't need to.

Why no names of the three politicians?

If they are lo-so, even mid-so folks their names would be in all the media regardless of whether they have been investigated or not - par for the course for decades.

For the Nation - please share who has ordered their names to be withheld, and why didn't you (the Nation) pursue the names same as you do with lo-so & mid-so folks? So much for media reform.

For the cops - who no big gathering of cops with the culprits in masks? Selective and unprofessional.

Exactly. What happened to the names of the politicians. 555. Laughable? Not really.

He shouldn't be serving any time at all.

    He broke no laws here.

Exactly. Since when does spending your money, obtained legally constitute money laundering?

Speculation. Like other posters have said. Somebody's jealous. Somewhere. Ostentation can be a curse and perhaps some toes were stepped upon. Its easy to imagine. Anecdotally at least I have found some of these people from his area have a lot of 'attitude'. Asians don't like it. Neither do I.

Legalize cannabis and see lower deaths from other drugs, as has been the case in the US and EU.

Legalize all drugs, in line with alcohol being the most dangerous drug on earth.

Then the issues become medical and not legal, tax is raised to pay for drug education, and substances can be controlled properly. This sort of accident is probably more consistent with the consumption of alcohol than meth, but the combination can easily result in violence.

  6. I am not a paranoid person for my own safety, but kidnappers strike with ruthless regularity all over Thailand. The last figure I saw on the U.S.of A. was a child disappearing every 4 seconds.

Its an international hazard and my guess is that the people involved in this could be "stocking up".

My Thai daughter is 9 years old this month. I no longer live with her but she is on a fairly strict roam control in the village. The black van can strike at any time. I don't think one can be too careful. Other expats used to think I was paranoid. She's pretty and has that little extra appeal being half caste. Its an onging and terrifying nightmare for those parents involved.

Too much of this happening. my thoughts are with the family and friends, the staff at the restaurant and those that found the body. Such a selfish way to go.

When you gotta go you gotta.

If you haven't had the need, then you wouldn't know.

I guess what you leave behind is furthest from your mind.

I can't imagine, how anyone could get into that state. . .

We all have a death wish

you never know when it decides or how

20 packs of viagra, I guess that amounts to 80 pills, wonder what you would innocently do with that at a birthday party.

And how about this innocent "gear"

The officials then searched 16 other rooms in the resort and a bag of a housemaid of the resort and found five methamphetamine pills and a World War Two handgun with eight rounds of ammunition in its magazine in the office.

So what evil intent could you "imagine" he could have with Viagra? Stiff in this case doesn't mean a dead body. Perhaps he needs a few to raise his Eiffel tower. Maybe that's his month's supply!

And police find things in other rooms and he gets guilt by association? Even with people he hasn't met? Glad you're not a cop. Hysterical over reactionary milk sop? Fun police there's a job.

He must have upset somebody, how did they know to raid the resort?

Now he is having a hard time explaining his actions/inactions.:cheesy:

No. Not necessarily. This is a classic con. You buy stuff from people who have been compromised by the police. Its their "job" to go and find someone to sell to. Through whatever network. They have already been caught. This is their "buy out" to do undercover work for the police. Their get out of jail card.

The guy 'innocently' gets some gear for his birthday and the "fun" police are there waiting.

His crime? Wanting to have an 'extra' good time. Probably never hurt anybody in his life.

I believe the term sexing is used for something to do with identifying a chcken's sex i.e. a chicken sexer ius an occupation. It could possibly be used with trying to identify if it was a lady or a boy. :sorry:

In my recent experience, I was offered to the sexing going over the local bridge by two of them. "No thanks, not putting my hand down there!" I didn't even want to get that close to "intense" disappointment. Or the yuch factor. OMG, this is a separate issue, but the balcony fall in Pattya, anecdotally at least, seems pretty high.

Those ladyboys bring about the demise of many a good men...

not that there's anything wrong with being one, but the Pattaya

chapter in particular are really bad sorts.....

Bad sorts? You combine the balls of a man with the personality and unpredictability of a woman and what do you get?        A very serious something or other.        Steer clear brothers.

  12. I did a stretch in a local school which had fired a fully qualified teacher for doing something like this.

There were some kids I found very difficult to control, but only about 3 out of about 200 and when I left they were all sad. Controlling children in a class room requires a bit of creativity, and although I am not an experienced teacher, we accomplished more by having fun with the lessons than be me being a bully.

What a terrible example of one's lack of behavioural resources. As someone pointed out, it is common assault and a criminal act and anyway, who likes a bully, especially one in a position of authority and who is twice the size. What a deplorable example to set. I agree with those that suggest punishment. EG a short jail term, deportation and a permanent ban on visiting the country. That would send a message to bullies like this.

I think that the country that wants him extradited has to ask.

Without that happening the UK authorities can do nothing. And I should imagine he retains some pretty high powered lawyers to ensure that remains the case; (why do sharks never bite lawyers? Professional courtesy!).

The ball is in Thailand's  court - and headed straight for some very long grass!

Headed for some long grass? This is the grass. And the jungle. This is it and it doesn't get better than this.

Does it? Unless a REAL lobby group start putting some public pressure on the government.

Not just a few TV'ers bleating and tweeting in the Thailand wind. Self included.

Nope. Incarceration for life, which should mean life, is more appropriate. The death penalty, in my view, is counter-productive and, thankfully, like almost all governments in Europe believe, just brings us down to the same level as the criminal. As someone who has been actively involved with Amnesty International in the past, my mind is pretty much fixed on this.

Yes, on an island. That means exile from the human population that is at risk because of your acts. However. Crimes of passion are understood in many courts another way. A far cry from premeditated murder. However again. Murder is murder and the incarceration and the conditions of incarceration should fit the type of murder. Murdering a 5 year old, for example like Paul Scully in an act of brutal commercialism and satiation of impulses so vile they defy the imagination, should invoke incarceration for life along with deprivation, or added punishments. Yes?  No?
