  1. From Siam Rath article, translated in Google translate: "By emphasizing the place of residence where the alien resides, the owner or occupant must notify to the immigration office within 24 hours under section 38 of the Immigration Act 1979, which is considered an important tool in control Prevent and suppress criminal groups that lurk in various forms." Siam Rath is a Thai language only newspaper. Have to copy and paste article into Google translate, 1 section at a time. That aside, seems TM30 is being invoked here. But who bothers nowadays?
  2. By comparing 1. entry dates and exit dates 2. visa issue, expiry and renewal 3. 90 day reporting 4. passport details IOs can identify and compile lists of potential overstayers. The problem is locating them. What % of visitors just disappears on arrival? These people were picked up at a bus stop, presumably waiting to be taken to their workplace. An easy nab.
  3. I use this style of label all the time to check the contents. It lists carbs, and dietary fibre. Subtract the second from the first and you have the net carbs. Then check the sugar content. It's added.
  4. I think many have Thai wives. A lot of the Indian restaurants are run that way. Probably the tailors and other businesses.
  5. Ah right, the voice of sanity. It was early days in my visits to Thailand. 1986 to be precise. I was still full of bonhomie and... Well you might have your own word for it. Taking pity on a fellow traveller's plight. Never mind. It'll obviously never happen to you.
  6. Is this an advertorial?
  7. And all illegally stuffed into the back of a police pickup. Did it crash later, killing everyone in the back? After all, they're illegal immigrants. It's all their own fault, right?
  8. Similar story where I have a house in the south east. But locals there appreciate his rotis much more than worrying about whether he has a WP or not. And of course the local old bill have a great fondness for the banana and condensed milk concoction, so what's not to like? Until somebody decides they can "do a Thai" on him, grass him up, shut him down, then reopen the business with a lazy nephew who cocks it all up, never to be found, "cannot" mentality.
  9. This man needs keto
  10. I reckon Spain had it coming after the despicable foul by Ramos on Sala in the Champions League final. Tough sxxx.
  11. I don't trust digital scales. In my experience they're always way out (get the pun?) The only ones I trust are the old fashioned ones with the sliding weights you can manually adjust. The only one I know of is in an Onsen here in Pattaya, which costs 300 to enter. Does anyone know of a publically accessible one, maybe in a public hospital or clinic somewhere? Much obliged and TIA.
  12. I know you're not German, Gottfrid, but I once "lent" 1000 THB to a German in the immigration detention centre to supposedly help him sort out his problems. He swore he'd return it. Never heard from him again. There are illegal immigrants, Gotters me old mate, and then there are complete cxxxx.
  13. https://www.busonlineticket.co.th/booking/bangkok-to-pattaya-bus-tickets BTW it says Bangkok to Pattaya in the link but if you click on it, you'll see it is the other way round. But if you want the other way, there's a little double arrow icon which will reverse the trip for you.
  14. Most get paid peanuts, are treated like cxxx, and are held until they can pay off the extortionate sums involved in getting into Thailand and getting a job the Thais would never dream of doing themselves. It's one of those industries which is a huge source of wealth for the people smugglers aka human traffickers. Out of the millions, how many commit serious crimes? It's typical European "blame it on the immigrant" mentality. If you won't do the work yourself, how can you complain if somebody far less well off than yourself, is prepared to sacrifice everything to do it? Anyway, I don't know what this guy was doing here and I don't consider it any of my business. But then, I don't know what anyone, apart from a few close friends, is doing here. He's 27, a long way from home, and has been grassed up by some grudged up snitch after presumably leading a blameless life here for 3 years. Why pick on him?
  15. Agreed, as it is near to me also and saves me having to brave the traffic to get to Tai or Klang, the haunt of many dentists. The 1800 for the filling wasn't included in the root canal treatment, which I thought was a bit odd. It was an extra!
  16. น้ำตาลทราย is granulated sugar, ie refined, rather than cane sugar. Cookies, along with a host of other junk foods, are mostly just flour, preservatives, refined sugar and palm oil, a completely worthless combination as a food source and extraordinarily bad news for the environment.
  17. Seconded. I had a root canal, started in Philippines, finished there. But on the pricey side for my money. 1500 for a filling, 7000 for the root canal. But very capable.
  18. Did you get your money back?
  19. So if you emailed [email protected], you think it would just get binned? It's their servers which are the obvious culprits. Nobody else is going to fix it for you. https://he.net/contacts.html
  20. Like with so many questions raised here, you'd have to ask him!
  21. Along with a handful of shells and beads I guess? ????
  22. Could be, but it's a pretty obvious scam. Broad daylight, seen carting truck loads of stuff away, nobody says a word?
  23. Ah, ok, mystery solved. I agree about the handkerchief, but, for instance, a really hot tom yam or any Thai food will have me pouring snot, and disposing of it discretely is embarrassing and difficult. My ex, a fun loving country girl, used to discretely blow her nose in the gutter - well, not literally IN the gutter, more INTO the gutter - at the same time she would rinse her mouth with water. She had it to perfection, and it really looked quite elegant. But me? Poooooot! Snot everywhere, all over my shirt. OMG!
  24. And we wear our outdoor shoes indoors, which I've come to view as fairly unhygienic, to say the least. I remember once asking an educated Thai why it was extremely bad manners to cross your legs in the presence of a monk. His reply - why do foreigners wear their shoes indoors? Bizarrely defensive answer, but there you go.
  25. Who knows that the cops weren't paid off also? Happens, you know. In the end, you're on your own with what you own. Island mafiosi.
