  1. So why can't they just install seats in this building, and open it to the public?
  2. I can't keep up with these raids. Who's getting rounded up, and why? Is it the same guy busted over and over again? I'm sure I read about this guy before, but Tony? Is that it?
  3. Some overseas banks pay more. But the risk is there. No bank in the UK pays 5% AFAIK. The one I'm with at the moment pays .35%. Yes, point 35%. They're closing my account next year. Only good for online banking.
  4. I believe there is a PSV license for public service vehicles. A lot of Bolt drivers were out of the blue rounded up recently in Pattaya I think for not having one. Do baht bus drivers have to have one? Do they have public liability insurance? Do they have training for the PSV license? Does anybody care?
  5. Hmmm. I get the "Stop your whining" bit, but then there's a long "if" clause with no "then" clause. The topics you suggest for discussion are endlessly thrashed out on this forum, to no avail. It's just the way it is.
  6. It might be worth just depositing 100 THB every month if you can. Keeps it active. I've had 2 accounts closed for a variety of reasons. If it falls below a certain limit, they'll fine you 200 THB per month. Or they used to. After a while the balance can reach zero.
  7. Make sure you keep it topped up. They'll shut it down if no transactions or balance falls to zero.
  8. Difficult for a lay person to draw any definitive conclusion. The article cites 113 links to a huge variety of scientific papers. I guess the point is, if YOU believe getting stoned will affect your driving, then DON'T. Same with alcohol. Get a taxi. 200 THB maybe, shared possibly. Your life and others', spared. For a few quid.
  9. You could get 15 years here in Thailand for gossip. Sex with a partner? Where can you get that?
  10. Looking at their website and the survey methodologies and scope it seems a lot more interesting than the normal "Thailand voted best country in the world for 23rd consecutive year" type survey. But I've a question. This is an expat forum. No idea how many read it or contribute. Must be in the 1000s I guess. Maybe not even representative of expats here. But, even so, how many members got polled, or know anyone, or even know anyone who knows anyone, who got polled? They say each questionnaire had to have a minimum of 50 respondents. Who knows? They might have all been Embassy workers, corporate employees, contractors, for instance. The poll results don't give a breakdown of the poll responders details - anonymous, obviously. The full set of results is here: https://www.internations.org/expat-insider/2022/
  11. Do you hate the smell of burning leaves too? Always reminds me of Autumn when we could still light a bonfire. It's not much different. The association in your brain is what's turning you off.
  12. Check at the bus stations.
  13. My own opinion of Stoltenberg is he should be relieved of his command with immediate effect. What does he think he is dealing with? It's WAR. People don't behave in a very sporting way under those conditions, and allowing for the Russian/Ukrainian winter to take its toll does not constitute a war crime. If he had any balls at all he'd have mounted a defensive invasion of Ukraine months and months ago. 26 member states and not one showed up on parade. Nuclear threat? It's all bluff!
  14. I happened upon RT last night. It's reappeared on my cable feed, along with a trillion Russians, so I've read. IT IS UNBELIEVABLE! There you are. I said it. Unbelievable. What a crock.
  15. Yes, but this raid involved only off line betting I think.
  16. Where do these bookies and punters hang out in order to get arrested? There are no betting shops, so private premises?
  17. Funny you should mention that. I've met a number of trans people in Thailand whose English was really impressive. And many Thai women. Getting talking to them they will often have an amazing story to tell. Married a foreigner, lived in eg Florida/Norway for 15 years, or wherever/whatever. Similar in Philippines. We really don't know the half of it.
  18. Bother will do! ???? Ok bro!
  19. Agree. Israelis born outside Israel? Americans born outside America?
  20. Isn't that what I said? I'm talking learning Thai. They chant the alphabet row by row, gor gy, kor ky, kor kwat etc etc. So that's how I memorized it. And the rest was how I approached it.
  21. I agree reading is the easiest. But writing? T, p, s, l, f, k, and hor nam words. Which to use, when? Unless, as in English, you learn every word.
