  1. If you know where Nimmanhaemin Road is, find soi 6, notice Bangkok bank in the front. Enter the soi 6 you will find Punna residence condo and wawee coffee. Power house is in Punna place area

Tried to locate them. the map made no sense unless you know all the streets in Chiang Mai. Tried the e mail function on the map no good.

I wish all these maps would give the position of where they are in relationship to the old city. It would be a very easy recognizable starting point.

Went to the web site it looked good but their e mail was useless. I would hope they keep their equipment up better than that. On the other hand maybe they are so successful they don't need new clients.

  2. Is the equipment kept in good condition or is it as the name suggests more for lifting.

Also is the staff knowledgeable and helpful?

They maintain their machines well and they replace the broken ones, the staffs are very good.

  3. Hope your next holiday isn't anywhere in SEA as I just got back from Vietnam and it's smoky just like over here

My allergic reaction to this smoke is dying down! I've never had it so bad in my life but all in all, I still love it here.

Next year it will be family holidays away from the heavy smoke, and I always remind myself that a bad day here is better than a good day back where I came from....wherever that was.

    Happy days....

  4. Actually I didn't notice how bad the smoke could affect me until yesterday I had to go out for lunch! Well at least one good thing I don't have to wear sunglasses when going out for lunch

It's not all that bad really

    Sawasdee Khrup, Khun Aristide,

I hope that if you do attend the golf tournament, it will have no impact on your health, and you'll have a great time.

However, if (may it not be so) you end up hospitalized for respiratory distress of some kind, please PM me your hospital name and room number; I like bringing flowers to ailing strangers: makes me feel a lot better (and, I assure you, that is not a form of schadenfreude).

On the other hand, if you are hospitalized for other reasons, such as ingrown toe-nail, or the usual orthopaedeic injuries resulting from mistaking concrete areas on the sides of Thai streets for "sidewalks:" while I'll extend to you my deepest sympathies, you don't get the visit and the flowers (sorry, you have to set limits somewhere).

    yours, ~o:37;

  5. Or you can pay 500 bath for a cup of coffee (civet feces) at Doi Chang and Picarama coffee shop in town then buy a meal grilled pork skewers and sticky rice for 15 bath! :D

There are lots of strange things I wonder about Thailand, and the lack of some efficiency, but I accept the good with the bad. It is part of what makes the country so fascinating. But, maybe that is only because I am a 6 month visitor. If I had to live her permanently I believe many more things would bother me.

For example... Why does it cost 40 baht for a cup of coffee when I can get a whole meal (padt Thai, Kow padt, etc) for 5 baht less? And, that will include a bowl of consome soup and all the ice water I can drink.

  6. A Red Song Taw in city area operates like a bus not Taxi , you ride with other passengers, they are expected to be paid one price all the way.

15 baths in the city area

20 baths in most chiang mai Amphur meung area (if they agreed to go)

All prices are governed by Department of land transport

Chiang mai already has taxi, the tuk tuk, the Taxi meter, the Airport taxi.

They work more like taxis - you tell them your destination and they bring you there. If there are other passengers on board, it might be a bit of mystery tour and take some time. If the journey is a long one, the price might go up to 40 or 60 baht, but it is a point to point service. You need to be able to describe where you're going, so it's a good idea to stay at a well known place, or near a well known landmark if you're going to be making a lot of use of them. I generally much prefer them to tuk-tuks which don't seem much safer than a motorcycle, and are targeting the inexperienced farang with higher prices.

The Baht bus in Pattaya is great if you know the routes and want to travel along them, but even that can be a bit of a crap-shoot. Sometimes you'll need to take two or three of them. And if you want a specific destination, you've got to charter the whole thing which will be 100 or 150 baht.

The Chiang Mai Red Taxis work a lot better once you're used to them.

  7. It's not all that bad really

Silly question, maybe, but I was thinking of travelling to Chiang Mai next week for the Chiangmai Classic golf at Alpine...Ernie Els is playing. Is it advisable? Surely the Asian Tour would not be holding the event - which is meant to promote tourism - if the air is hazardous to players' and spectators' health?

  8. Don't forget to add the price of dentistry after you try to chew the Thai beef.

Actually now Thai beef is more tender than NZ and Australian export beef. ie. PonYang Kham, KU beef, and Thai-French beef.

  9. Salt rub works well with chicken breasts too. Also use Knorr powder instead of salt great flavor!

This goes for any kind of meat. Cut up the meat, apply salt to both sides, and store in the fridge. Even one hour will tenderize it remarkably. Overnight is even better. And it'll keep your pork looking pink much longer. And the taste of the salt seeps into the meat. Yum.

Don't forget to add the price of dentistry after you try to chew the Thai beef.
