  1. Fresh pies out of the oven, No 'Pasty tax'!

Never heard of this before thanks for the tips

You could microwave the pie wrapped in kitchen roll which absorbs the moisture and leaves a decent crust

Most days we have hot fresh pies just out of the oven.Maybe we should have a pie day every Saturday,Pie of the week ?

  2. I don't frequent the pretentious Nimmanhaemin area.

I found this Thai sausage stand at the corner of my street in the Nimmanhaemin area, they sell a meal of sticky rice and "sai oua" sausage for only 10-15 baht. (may be a perfect match for your 15 baht banana for dessert?)

  3. I warmed in oven, of course. Microwaves just wreck crusts, I think. But great for curries (except pies).

To those insisting upon spelling conventions - food tastes as good either way, methinks.

Microwave frozen pie for 5 minutes and put in toaster oven for just 2 mins to help the crust. Works every time just like the oven.

  4. why he thought an old man out for a walk could or would be a threat to any thai

Me guess it is standard procedure for the police when a member of the royal family passing through the streets. i.e. no photo from dave

  5. There could have been the Preparation for Graduation Ceremony in Mae Tang which create a lot of traffic jam as people from all over the country will attend, I think the number of Rajaput University students alone coming this year could probably be more than ten thousands at least. Not to mention their family from all over Thailand (All Rajapat University campuses in the Northern part of Thailand)

  6. I'm beginning to get the point!

With just 16% of the world’s cars, trucks, buses and motorcycles, Asia accounts for more than half of the roughly 1.2 million traffic fatalities that the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates occur globally every year. More than 600,000 Asians are killed and another 9.4 million are severely injured in traffic accidents annually.

Those statistics make Asia’s highways the meanest streets in the world. In Thailand, for example, road accidents are now the third leading cause of death after aids and heart attacks, according to the country’s Ministry of Public Health

It comes out of Australia where the “Asians are bad drivers” stereotype is just as prevalent as it is in the U.S.

As of today I just had several bottle of juice, watermelon, coconut, and orange. No sugar added. They operate the juicer in front of you.

    Aristide,

Your map is neat - what program did you use? I appreciate your efforts.

If I read it correctly, the multi-shop building on the corner is the same building that includes the super blueprint & oversize scanning shop which I frequent often. That print shop is on the main street (Phrapokklao), opposite Yuppharat High School. I walked to the end of that building, on street between that building and the Three Kings Museum. Same street block. Unable to find a shop selling that great orange juice, although I asked a couple of shopowners. Can you please identify these streets for me, and (if possible) the name of shop? Many thanks!

  8. Should be easy to find from many local websites. Price range around 20000 - 25000b per month. Just be sure to take photo of all furnitures, carpet etc... including a list of items and have the landlord initial on it. Or better provide your own lease agreement. Make sure you get your security deposit back.

  9. Could be new zealand tasty ?

was nice thick slices and really tasty , crumbly and the nicest tasting cheese ive had for years

  10. Kiwi fruit from royal project elongated one are also better than the one from New Zealand

Passion fruit is also very good

At Royal project they work very hard to improve the quality of their products.

    Quality has always been AAA+

I find them mostly much better than the ones (claimed to be AAA+ also) we get in Europe.

  11. I personally only shop at Rimping and very little at Tops and Royal project. But I guess many people who have to feed a family might shop around but not all over the city of course.

How about time Chiang Mai is a big city and to have to look all over it would not leave munch time to cook.

I think you probably have a few stores you frequent and really don't look around that munch.

  12. I just bought 5 kilo of Peaches from a local farmer in the street right out of his truck (mixed sizes) for 75 THB (That's 15 THB per Kilo) and that is what they should cost more or

15 bath per Kilo! I wonder if there were any profit at all!

  13. Can't imagine the amount of time and effort that one would put into comparison price shopping at every

store and local market in Chiang Mai.

Not much effort if one have to cook almost everyday.

  14. The peaches in CM happen to have very thick skins and the inside is like eating a grape, not much firmness to it.

You might be talking about the imported one in Rimping, the locally grown peaches from royal project has thin skins firm flesh and flavorful although smaller than what's available in Vancouver.

  15. A smoked coconut I got from Muang Mai market is only 8 - 10 bath each but I still shop at at Rimping almost everyday.

Fruit at Rimping is normally 50-100% higher than any other grocery store or local market in CM!!!

Indeed, we very rarely buy fruit there for that reason ... but in this case they are offering quality fruit for a fair price (and no, I don't own shares in the place)

PS: Nice pic Wimpy. I had to stop myself licking the 'puter screen
