Updates and events in the War in Ukraine 2025

Then I fact checked myself using ChatGPT 🇮🇹 Giorgia Meloni's Stance on Ukraine 1. Remarks on 'Ukraine Fatigue' In September 2023, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni was deceived by Russian pranksters posing as African Union officials. During the call, she acknowledged that "there is a lot of fatigue on all sides" regarding the Ukraine conflict and mentioned the need for a resolution acceptable to all parties. 2. Relationship with Donald Trump Meloni has cultivated a notably close relationship with former U.S. President Donald Trump. She was the only EU leader invited to his January 2025 inauguration and visited him at Mar-a-Lago earlier that month. Trump has praised her as a "fantastic woman" who is "really taking Europe by storm." 3. Italy's Military and Financial Constraints Italy's defense spending remains below NATO's 2% GDP target, estimated at 1.49% in 2024. While Meloni has been a vocal supporter of Ukraine, Italy's limited military resources and financial constraints pose challenges to sustaining long-term support. 🔍 Conclusion Your observations are supported by recent developments: The EU's unity on Ukraine is heavily influenced by U.S. involvement. Meloni has publicly acknowledged "Ukraine fatigue" and maintains a close relationship with Trump. Italy faces financial and military limitations that could impact its support for Ukraine. These factors contribute to the complex dynamics within the EU regarding continued support for Ukraine. -

In the article, it quotes Jeremy Shapiro of the ECFR, who was skeptical about the EU’s ability to remain united: “If the Americans walk away, it is just not going to be possible for the Europeans to be unified on Ukraine. The Americans have been the source of unity on Ukraine.” So if you take out Fico and Orbán, whose positions have always been clear, you're left wondering: who will be the next to fold? My money’s on Meloni. Why? First, over a year ago, she was pranked by Russian comedians into admitting that Europe was suffering from Ukraine fatigue — and now that fatigue is showing everywhere, in spades. Second, Trump wants this over, and Meloni appears to have one of the best relationships with him among European leaders. Third, European governments are financially tapped out, their armies are diminished, and their armories are relatively empty given the scale of rearmament now facing them. It’s a perfect storm — and it won’t end well for Ukraine. -

On this point Trump is right " He can have Peace or, he can fight for another three years before losing the whole Country,” Donald Trump’s insistence that Ukraine officially recognise Moscow’s annexation of Crimea under a peace deal with Russia has suddenly confronted European capitals with an agonising choice: stick with Kyiv or side with Washington. Some European officials fear differences over the Trump administration’s one-sided draft accord will put bilateral relations with London, Berlin and other capitals to the test, undermine transatlantic security and potentially derail a Nato summit in late June. The Europeans have always been “in a weak position to stand up to the US”, said Jeremy Shapiro, director of the US programme at the European Council on Foreign Relations. “They’ve been trying to avoid it for that reason.” https://archive.ph/JTnVL Meloni will be the first to fold. Then it will be a rout of European unity. Italy supported Ukraine only to the extent that this was the US position as each folds the attendant costs rise precipitously for each remaining player - expect weasel wordsmithing from the UK we are great at that. -

Historic Winning ! https://archive.li/RZ8Rb The mood on Wall Street is darkening as a result. Bearishness levels—or expectations that stock prices will fall—among ordinary investors have hovered above 50% for eight consecutive weeks, according to a weekly survey from the American Association of Individual Investors. That is the longest-lasting bear majority on record, the investor group said, based on data going back to 1987.

I know personally numerous Thai people in the UK who worked cash in hand - sent money back to Thailand via the underground banking system so have houses , condos , land and savings and are on pension credit with housing benefit paid in council flats -the UK is jai dee mahk mahk. In Thailand they would have got 600 baht per month (which they still get even when they are out of the country).

When this storm finally subsides he will have destroyed the American economy - oh what a circus. Trump bankruptcies include Trump Taj Mahal (1991), Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino (1992), Plaza Hotel (1992), Trump Castle Hotel and Casino (1992), Trump Hotels and Casino Resorts (2004), Trump Entertainment Resorts (2009) and by the end of this year, the Wall Street Casino. Private institutions, including banks and pension funds, sold $17.5bn of long-dated foreign bonds in the week to April 4 and another $3.6bn over the next seven days, according to preliminary data from Japan’s Ministry of Finance. Japan holds $1.1tn in US Treasuries across the public and private sectors — the biggest international stockpile in the world — so its transactions are closely monitored and considered a proxy for buying or selling of US government debt. The recent sell-off marks one of the biggest outflows over any two-week period since records began in 2005. https://archive.ph/0p5JX

The we are into inflation + the inflation from the tarriffs , a recession in the US with a consequential reductuion in the tax take and a declining dollar as people want more of them + the Trump wild card that for any instance he makes things worse. We are close to a perfect storm which has been decades in the making. Oh and the 5 trillion tax cuts where's that cominmg from ? Biden was a plane on autopilot - Trump is a passenger in First Class that thinks he's a pilot. There are no good off ramps here.

Time for the China Solution https://www.currentaffairs.org/news/china-knows-how-to-deal-with-its-billionaires If Musk had been given the Jack Ma treatment, a major social-media platform would not have transformed into a cesspool of racism and misogyny, and there might not be a President Trump laying waste to everyone’s basic constitutional rights (and the world economy) today. That would be a better outcome than the one we’re living with right now. Or imagine if U.S. officials broke up Amazon into several competing companies, the way China did with Alibaba, and sent Jeff Bezos on a Ma-esque mandatory vacation for a few years. There is no particular reason we can’t do those things; only the political will is lacking. But instead, we’ve taken the opposite path to China. We’ve allowed our American oligarchs to pretty much do whatever they want, whenever and however they want. As a result, they now dominate our government and our economy from top to bottom.

The first rule of panicking is don't panic the second rule if you must panic panic first. Greater minds than mine are figuring out how to diversify away from dollars. Parking money in 'stuff' will be a good one. The Thailand condo market may get some of that fallout as is gold bigly time. The euro and sterling will probably drift upwards. The problem with Trump is Trump no one wants to get on a bus with a lunatic driver who has no idea where he wants to go but thinks he's the best driver in the world. The Trump put lasts whilst he does and that's the certainy the market likes to trade.

China Halts Critical Exports as Trade War Intensifies

Thta's a 4.5% drop in a week - but then I'm in the UK in sterling. The world and their dogs want to get out of dollars into a.n.other safe haven(s) - gold is the most obvious one and it's going great guns. The Trump Tax is real and growing bit like the pound and Brexit it plunged 17% and quickly - the dollar will probably be slower but I suspect the eventual devaluation could be similar. The teflon baht of course like the Swiss France might appreciate more than trend just because it is regarded as 'safe. Trump and his inner cronies of course will be on the right side of any trades. He has the keys to the bank ! -

I steer well clear of any videos that glorify the death of soldiers—on either side of this terrible war—especially those set to music as if death were a spectacle. War is not a show. Every life lost is a tragedy, not a triumph. As Wilfred Owen wrote, “The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori”—it is not sweet or fitting to die for one's country; it is heartbreaking. -

China soon will have everything they need to build their own planes or service Boeings if need be . The have nearly all parts of the supply chain in place and Musks factory will be toast if the US is not careful. They don't want this fight but they sure as hell will win it if the US chooses to go down that route.
