  1. I would imagine that you are going to be flying internationally to these locations. Why are you not seriously considering the travel insurance option provided by the major airline you are flying? Seem like you may need it also.
  2. You nailed the reason on the head. It is a form of a Pyramid scheme. A seller promotes his relatives and fiends to buy Amway products from him and also to become a member so that each individual can get their friends and relatives to also do the same. Each level above those bottom tiers make money off those sales. So, you can if you get many tiers below you, you don't have to sell much and make great income!
  3. When I decided to move 'full time' to Thailand (about 12 years ago), I sold my condominium, cars, furniture, etc. My home country address is my sister's home and has been for the total time. I continue to have my bank accounts, credit cards, and those other items tied to other financial resources. My retirement (pensions) income goes into my one bank account (therefore I do not have to establish whether or not I am alive to my government.) I pay my taxes, etc. I have automatic payment for those domestic credit cards in my home country that I use outside of Thailand. I use a VPN on those accounts that require a domestic location and other than that, all is good. I transfer the required funds to my Thai Bank account for my extensions and also transfer additional funds to my wife's bank account. I also have a real Thai credit card with Bangkok Bank (actually it is a joint account with my wife being the primary account holder.) She has an excellent credit rating, which was necessary to buy a home and purchase cars using a auto loan (have no need to have any assets in Thailand other than the minimal funds necessary to meet the extension requirements. She aso has several other credit cards. So, why should I own any asset in my home country when I can rent a car, stay with relatives, and travel in my home country to show my wife life there and other attractions.
  4. You can order online from Lazada either Fruit of the Loom or Jockeys (both US-type products.) They have a 'front pocket for your **** vs the Thai brands that are like women's unerwear for men!
  5. 1. Bangkok Bank - New York Branch is a corresondance bank and DOES NOT process any personal accounts. You have to go directly to Bangkok Bank in Thailand, 2. Not sure why you don't just have your retirement payment direct deposited into a US bank like Chase or other large institutions (that do not get bought out by bigger banks.) 3. Then you go through Wise.com and establish a transfer process between your acount in the US bank and Bangkok Bank. Then you can initiate any and all transactions on your computer. No need for any VPN or OTPs. 4. I did this a long time ago and now have two of my Bangkok Bank accounts ID'd for deposits plus my wife's Bangkok Bank account. Once the money is in Thailand, I can move it anywhere to what ever bank acount in any bank. I think most of us do it this way. 5. If you are on Social Security, you should NOT have your SS payment direct deposited into a Thailand bank. Why? The USG requires you to prove that you are alive every year.
  6. For someone that has done extensions for 25 years, seems you have no idea what was required. It has been fairly simple (I do retirement extensions), and for a marriage extension, the requirements are very similar. It almost sounds like you used an agent before this time. You need the application for temporary stay in the kingdom TM7 for a marriage extension. (I am surprised they would want you and your wife's pictures but . . . .) You really needed to follow the instructions right on the application to fill it out (and attach a picture.) 1. you need to provide evidence that you are still married. (Need to go to the Amphur to get.) 2. even if you do the 400,000 bht, you need some type of statement from the bank. AND, if it is a bank statement from BBL, then there is no way that a BBL branch can provide a 1-year statement. they all have to come from the main office in Bangkok, costs 200 baht. This is true since they need to know that you have kept at least a certain amount in the account as necessary throughout the year. 3. You need a letter from the branch from which you are requesting the statement that they provide you a letter confirming that the account belongs to you and you alone, 100 bht 4. Besides providing a copy of the bankbook pages showing the last year's transactions, you need to get a copy of the last page of your bankbook showing the most current account valued (which should include at least 100 bht deposit on the date that you are requesting the extension) and have the bank stamp that copy. 5. you also need to provide evidence of where you current living whether it is a yellow book or in some specific case a blue book or a lease document. 6. you will have to sign several documents at immigration that you acknowledge certain laws especially pertaining to overstays, etc. I have probably forgotten something, but you should get the jist (oh 1,900 thb to pay them for the extension processing.) PS. For someone doing these extensions for 25 year's worth, I am very surprised at your lack of knowledge of what is required.
  7. It is easier when you are in the US and buy a sim card at Walmart. Better than one of the service providers.
  8. Several months ago, I cleared out my laptop's history file and cookie file (had had some issues with accessing my USA Financial Account to check on my IRA. After that, I attempted to login to my WISE Account. Because now, WISE assumed I was logging on using a 'different computer'. So, I had to go through formally identifying that it was truly me. With a picture of my passport and allowing the WISE site to take my facial picture (took about 3 tries to get one that met their satisfaction.) I was then allowed to access my account. WILL NEVER DO HOUSEKEEPING OF MY COMPUTER AGAIN! Also, in November, I was in the US, and had to send funds using WISE to my Thai savings account. They sent me an emailing identifying a possible security issue with the transaction. I had to acknowledge that it was me. Am happy that WISE is managing the security on their website to this level of accountability.
  9. I went to a Pharmacist in Koh Chiang and he provided me: Candix (name brand) or Clotrimazole polish to use twice a day and Sponar tablets. With Spornar, 1 tablet a day for 8 days, then off for 3 weeks, followed again same regimen three more times.
  10. I do that all the time using the normal AIS' "1 to Call" prepaid service using their international access code (003), followed by the country code then the phone number, which you can find by going on their website. Simple as eating pie!
  11. See, some people come to the conclusion that I am just a newbie to Wise! I have had an account with them for over two years. This new security process was a surprise, so I was just trying to inform all of this significant change in the process. I'll have to see what happens on my next request which will happen in July.
  12. I just completed a "Send Money" request. The process has been dramatically expanded in proving who you are. Once you go through the preliminary input screens such as "from which account to use as funding source", "how much and into which currency", they then require you to prove who you are. You need to have your ID (for us in Thailand, passport most likely ) and then use your smart phone to get an email from Wise to set up taking a picture of your ID and then a selfie of yourself. Once they accept the two inputs (taking a complete picture of the ID page of the Passport and a picture of your complete face (this took me 3 tries), they process the information and if acceptable, they continue the "send Money" process of clicking on the "Reason for the Transfer" and re-entering your Password. Once that is successful, Wise goes off to assess and to make sure this is a valid request and the person sending is really you. They then send you an email confirming the document you sent them , ala ID and Password. Something that before took about 2-3 minutes to complete, took me a good 20-25 minutes.
  13. Yes, it is the RED Line. Going to DMK -the station is identified. Once you disembark it is a long walk, more than 10 minutes, it is almost like never ending. Noy much fun when hauling luggage. Spend the money and take a taxi, or one of the bus lines. On the return. There are not many scheduled trains. You may have to wait 10-20 minutes for one.
  14. Other than BBL, SCB, and Kasikorn, this limitation has been in force for at least a year. It actually states it in the WISE application as such. So, if you read the detail content of the app, you would have seen this limitation.
  15. In 2021, I had open-heart surgery at the Queen Sirikit Heart Center of the Northeast. I won't go into details but I felt the care taken from admittance, initial testing, the surgery, recovery, 2-days in a hospital room, and the continuing follow-up (including in the emergency department to replace the gauze bandages from the removal of the leg vein and the incisions into the body cavity as well as appointment with my surgeon (now every 6 months)) were all first class. Also, prior to surgery and during recovery, my wife was allowed to stay with me, had to sleep on a couch bed though. (I had a private room.) All costs associated with this illness was out of pocket other than a small hospital insurance policy with AIA. From your description, even in the US, the medical profession would prefer, from the patient's point of view, for the patient expiring to be in constant contact with their nearest relatives at home. If not, they would 'push them out of the hospital' and suggest the family put the patient into a hospice. So, really no difference.
  16. Even though the Bangkok Bank Branch is a wholesale bank in the US, maybe if you contact them, they might be able to assist you in resolving this issue: 29 Broadway, 19th Floor New York, New York 10006 (212) 422-8200 When it was a viable alternative for transferring money to Thailand, I was able to connect to the right person to assist me.
  17. Should have his tourist permit or visa revoked and given 5 days to get a flight out of Thailand (and blackballed.)
  18. You have provided no detail of where or what you tried when attempting to open a Thai Bank Account. So, did you try going to the headquarters location for Bangkok Bank? If you attempt to do it at their main location, at least someone there has a good understanding of English and can assist plus. Maybe if there is a problem to do it yourself, they can provide you the best recommendation for going forward. I know that when I wanted to establish an account about 12 years ago, I needed one of their current commercial customers to go with me, to establish the account with a tourist visa. Seemed very easy. Once you have a first account, then if you want to establish the 800K baht account that is separate, should be easy to do with having that first account.
  19. go online and check out one of the banks, ala Bangkok Bank, and Superrich. Check out for yourself the difference in exchange rates. Usually superrich exchange rate is better than any of the banks. This is very simple to do.
  20. It is my understanding that any "branch" of any Thailand bank based in the West is only a correspondence branch which processes activities that are commercially oriented, not personal banking activities. So, as is the London branch the same as the New York City branch. You can find this information on the Bangkok Bank website.
  21. Since a foreigner cannot own land in Thailand, having built a house on the Thai family property, you have no rights to the land other than you might have recourse if your spouse dies (have to sell within 6 months though after her death.) To have any separate claim to the house, you should have a formal, legally executed document giving you right to the house. If not, I am pretty sure that it belongs to whomever has the "Blue Book" to that address. If you had executed a lease arrangement (in your name) for the house, then at least you would have the right to live there for the period of the lease. You did not indicate that you ha a pre-nuptial agreement defining the rights of each party to their "share" of the combined assets.
  22. There is a Marriott Courtyard a few blocks away. Can cut through an alley and come out very close to the embassy entrance. You can get a senior discount if old enough.
