Controversial Construction: A Mysterious Pool on Na Jomtien Beach
Swiss1960 replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
What's the mystery? Clearly connected to the yet unopened hotel. Clearly took weeks to build, so everyone is invited to guess where a lot of money was flowing that this construction got unnoticed... -
TV just show, they catch the shooter. Young boy, only 14 or 15 years old. 3 people die and 2 are in hospital

September tourist arrivals in Phuket drop to 2023 low
Swiss1960 replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
No wonder, even serious Swiss newspapers write about the "Russian takeover" of Phuket... -
Bangkok is more expensive, and even then, prices will vary. But if you don't trust your GF's information, get a new GF without braces, problem solved.

Computer glasses. Are they nonsense or do they work?
Swiss1960 replied to JeffersLos's topic in IT and Computers
Very good article provided by @Moonlover Besides that, there are few more things I would like to point out: (1) You will need to "play" with screen distance from your eyes, font size and brightness, maybe even an additional or bigger screen. (2) When you go to the optician for new glasses, measure the distance, maybe take your laptop with you, if you are working on it, and do not stop testing different settings for the glasses, until they are perfect for you. (3) Never go get new glasses with "fresh" eyes, otherwise they can still adjust too easy to your eye weaknesses, and you might not get the right prescription. Go there after like halfway through your working day, that is normally the best time. (4) There are also some "magnifying" options for glasses, but use those only as last resort, as it can cause you to having to move your head up/down/left/right too much, which will only make things worse. I am in front of my screen (plugged into my laptop) for hours a day, and computer glasses are a necessity for me -
Visa for Filippina partner
Swiss1960 replied to joethejobber's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Alternative is retirement to the Philippines... OR get a new (Thai) GF once settled in Thailand... -
First: Luckily, Switzerland is not member of the EU, but only the Schengen zone... Second: Give foreigners in Thailand the same rights to stay and work, as the EU gives to Thai people, specially for married people, get rid of the ridiculous requirements for TM30, 90d reporting and so on, and we can talk about Visa free travel

@Sophon, @DrJack54: The income letter from the Swiss Embassy in Thailand is actually called a "Certificate" where the Swiss Embassy certifies the monthly pension amount. And then there is a sentence on the document: "This certificate is issued for the Royal Thai Immigration Bureau for the renewal of the permit to stay".

As per title, I plan to change from extension based on Thai family to extension based on retirement, just because it is so much more easy - and I have a pension confirmation ("certificate") from my government for the monthly amount, so no more bank visits and letters, no more Amphoe visits for Kor Ror 2, no more pictures at home, no more witness, no more home visits, no more everything two copies... 1) Do I need some special form for changing the type of extension, something like the TM86 change of Visa, or do I just show up with the necessary docs and that should be it? Talking about Jomtien in my case. 2) Do I have to apply within the same time frame (30 days before the old extension expires), or can I go at almost any time, as it is like a "new" extension? Thanks for your know how

Help! My beloved MG HS keeps talking to me in Thai!

I had the same problem with a leak under the house and no plumbing plans... no chance in hell finding it. I ended up replumbing the whole house, now all pipes go around the house directly into showers /kitchen, and at the same time I had stop valves installed for every room and appliance. Luckily, I could find the same tiles for all rooms, so I didn't have to retile any of the rooms.

Would You Trust Lazada to Buy Computer?
Swiss1960 replied to NoshowJones's topic in IT and Computers
The 'mechanic' mentioned would have checked the computer with you to ensure that it is fully operational. I personally have sales people open and unpack every item with a plug (above 2000 Baht value) to check that it works before I take it out of the store.
