Gentlemen, I don't know about you, but there are so many news, updates, models, etc. coming out that it's starting to get complicated to follow everything. Not much in Thailand yet, but in China, it's a continuous stream of new models, restyling, etc…
Definitely true.I own a BYD and an MG. Having an extensive dealership network was high up on my criteria list.

I created this discussion to help those who were considering buying an EV in Thailand but still had concerns and questions. I hoped that those of us who already owned EVs here would be able to answer questions about the reality of owning an EV in Thailand.
Instead this discussion has turned into a battle. I still don’t understand why people with no interest in buying an EV spend so much time and effort trying to convince those of who own EVs that every we say about EVs is wrong.
I think maybe the problem is that for some people the less they actually know about a subject the more of an expert they think they are. As Aristotle famously wrote, "The more you know, the more you realize you don't know."
“A new survey conducted by YouGov has showed that belief in EV myths is holding back adoption, with most petrol car drivers scoring just a 2/10 in a quiz about how electric cars work.
The survey found that misinformation is alive and well and particularly among drivers who haven’t driven an EV.
Out of the petrol drivers surveyed, a majority of them, 57%, were only able to answer 2 out of 10 questions correctly, and 90% got less than half correct”

When I arrive home I just say "Siri Gate" and my gate opens
My gate opener is a few years old and it came with it’s own app which offers no integrations. I see that their latest version has Siri and Google Assistant voice support but not sure I want to pay another ฿20k just for that.
Alternatively is to install the app on Apple Car Play, then I can control the app on a 16 inch screen rather juggling my phone while driving.
Thirdly an add on that changes my dumb gate opener to a smart one. The words “works with most gate opener” fills me with confidence
Forth and final option is to wait till my gate opener dies and replace it with a less dumb one. -

I thought about using something like in the video. And they I looked at what's available and I found this one:
Shelly PM Mini Gen3 - All products - Shop - Shelly
13 USD, very small, and it works fine.
Thanks very much for that.
The full size Shelly EM is what is recommended by HA for the energy dashboard but is considerably more expensive

What are you using for sensors? I have been playing with esphome using BME280 sensors, you could even use a BME680 to give you more environmental variables. I like the code but the project has been taken over by homeassistant, Sometimes it’s a little tricky to use without running HA.
My first sensors were Xiaomi and they are 8 years old now. I still have them in most rooms, but Xiaomi doesn’t always play nice with Home Assistant, were as Tuya has been pretty reliable for me.So this is what I bought to replace them with.
https://s.lazada.co.th/s.q82U2
I have been toying with the idea of using esphome but I know that once I start down that rabbit hole I will end up buying a 3D printer, something that have been resisting strongly
“‘how much did that thing cost? I have never seen you using it. You and your toys!” (Wife)
This is a good example of esphome for those unfamiliar with it and one I am seriously considering trying

IMO, if your home automation doesn't reach out to the interwebs, you're forgoing a lot of the benefits.
I want to be able to turn on my A/C 10 minutes before I get home. I want a notification if my cameras' motion detectors are triggered (along with a snippet showing me what triggered them.) I want another notification if someone rings my doorbell, or triggers motion detection with a delivery, or wandering around my yard (stealing tools?). I want a notification if I have a power interruption. I'd like to be able to check temps and humidity remotely. To unlock and relock the front door remotely if I need to let someone in.
None of that happens without a connection.
Good point. -

I guess next we'll have separate threads for the windscreen wipers and the door handles, right?
Trolls regularly join this discussion and try to hijack it by turning it into a discussion about EV fires or some rumor about something that might have happened to a possible EV in China.
My experience is that such trolls are generally poorly informed about the facts about EVs and just believe the disinformation produced by the fossil fuel industry, legacy automakers and far right conspiracy nuts without question.
After over 8.5k posts here we are pretty bored trying to talk sense into these people.
There is a discussion for EV v ICE cars.
There is a discussion for EV and ICE car fires.
There is a discussion about why all Chinese cars are rubbish.
If that’s what you want to talk about, please join one of those discussions.
If you have a sensible question about EVs in Thailand then ask it here, otherwise you will quickly find yourself being ignored.

There is no difference between EV's in Thailand and China.
Maybe this link is more appropriate
There is already a discussion about EV fires, please use it if you don’t want to reply directly to the discussion that you quoted-

smart home kit starts pretty simple but but can get pretty complicated.
I don’t know if you saw my basic intro video. If not here it is

It would be nice to control the TV by voice, absolutely.
I have Apple TVs connected to my living room and bedroom TVs. The remote has a mic button that I use to change between Netflix, my Plex Server, YouTube, Tidal etc and other interactions

Not everyone in my house likes smart home kit.

Some time ago I thought about buying a robot vacuum cleaner. Some of them are pretty good, with LIDAR and camera and collision detection and such things. And, at least last time I checked, the really good models were permanently connected to the cloud and sending information from our homes into that cloud. At least for me that was and is a reason why I won't buy one in the moment.
I’ve had one for a few years and it does a great job of vacuuming and mopping, but yes it is cloud connected -

Have you noticed anything hinky, as if Google is listening to you and steering you toward advertisements, etc? I see YouTubes where people will talk at home about (for example) kayaks, and the next time they get on their smartphone or PC, they get inundated with kayak ads. Has that happened to you?
I purchased 2 FB Portals, one for my brother in the UK and one for myself for smart video calling. It came with Amazon Alexa built in and I have had a few odd instances like “would you like me to order …. for you?”
But nothing with Google. Home Assistant is not cloud based so removes that worry.-

I really like Home Assistant.
Ok, it takes a little time to learn it and get a feel for it. But there are a couple of active and knowlagble YouTubers out there who regular report about updates, good things, bad things, etc.
I watch regularly the videos from this guy:
Everything Smart Home - YouTube
And this one goes more into details:
I tried HA a few years ago using docker on my NAS. It went away to find my smart home devices and came back with a jumbled mess.
Last year I was thinking of trying out a Home Assistant Yellow, but it required me to provide my own Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4, and as far as I can tell they're unavailable, so I went for a Green instead.
This time it went much more smoothly. HA has really improved in recent years.
My original smart home kit from 7-8 years ago was Xiaomi using the Chinese server, but some them have stopped connecting. I purchased an Aquara M3 hub hoping to resurrect them but had limited success.
I follow Everything smart home already but will add the other guy thanks.

Some posters may dismiss these concerns as FUD, but I’m not entirely convinced that the risks should be overlooked.
For the record, my next car will be an EV, charged by solar power. However, I plan to take additional safety precautions, such as parking it at a safe distance from my house.
From my profile pic you will see that I have solar and park very close to my house.
I would recommend an LFP battery, I bought one from BYD with nearly 600km of range and fast 150kW charging

On the next level, is anyone monitoring their power with the current transformers (CTs) on each leg in the breaker box? I'm wondering if there's any "bestest" system for that?
I have been using a basic one for a few years, but as it lives in its own app I plan to replace it with something compatible with Home Assistant -
Thanks for all the responses.
I have just created a very simple introductory video to smart home devices. Feel free to ask any questions

That is a nice looking interface. I get all the above data using Sonoff smart devices and Anern's inverter app but I have to open different apps and not as clean.
Yes the dashboard looks great. I have 4 Growatt inverters and I have tried the Growatt integration on Home Assistant, but it pings the server so often that Growatt blocks my access for 24 hours!.
I have chatted with the guy who made the dashboard I posted and he is using https://solar-assistant.io/shop

Yes I have Google mini speakers or Google compatible smart speakers in every room.
Maybe you can post some of the things you are doing?
I thought I might make a simple intro video for those who have never tried smart home kit.

The dashboard isn’t mine, it’s one I got off one of the forums. My dashboard is very much a work in progress. I will post some screen shots later if this discussion gets some interest.

Can you ask the Q on the smart home discussion I just created so we don’t hijack this one.-

I have been using smart home kit for a while now first using Google Home and now with Home Assistant on a HA Green server.
This is the sort of thing that can be accomplished:
