I get this question so often that I made a video about it.
-
Completely understandable. If you look at the design criteria section I lay out the priorities for the build. This is where you have to make compromises and if you want the most efficient home possible you have to move away from what most people consider attractive in a house. In Thailand that is a house that you would expect to see in North America or Northern Europe with big picture windows. I was lucky that I have a very understanding wife.

Home charging will be at a speed of 7kW AC compared to fast DC charging at 150 kW so I don't think it will put too much strain on the battery -
Rare earth elements on their way out of EVs?
Bandersnatch replied to placeholder's topic in The Green Forum
I regularly see posts here claiming that REES are used in large quantities in modern EV batteries but that is incorrect. They were is used in Nickel–metal hydride batteries in older hybrid cars, but that is no longer the case. “ 'rare-earth' is a misnomer because they are not actually scarce, although historically it took a long time to isolate these elements. rare-earth elements are technically relatively plentiful in the entire Earth's crust, cerium being the 25th-most-abundant element at 68 parts per million, more abundant than copper Ce and La are important as catalysts, and are used for petroleum refining and as diesel additives” https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rare-earth_element -

This was your carefully considered reply to @Gweiloman post "Why would there be a need to upgrade the national infrastructure? Most EVs are charged at home at night when there is low demand for electricity from industries and businesses." If there wasn't less demand and more supply capacity at night why would PEA & MEA offer TOU Tariffs? -
There is rain and there is rain! The last time I switched on PEA was in September 2022 during Super Typhoon Nuri Here is the video of the Event - I have 4x9kWh LFP batteries by the way.

I have ordered one - top spec AWD has 0-100km in 3.8 seconds. They have bi-directional charging so you can charge them up on solar in the middle of the day and power your house at night from your car. -

Why don't you ask people here who actually have solar and EVs then you might get some facts. A 10kW PV system would be able to run a 7kW AC wall charger for at least 6 hours a day after powering the house = 42kWh @ 7.5km/kWh = 315km/day - should cover daily usage My Payback: Main Components 20,000 Watts of PV @ ฿9/W = ฿180,000 9kWh LiFePO4 Batteries ฿68,000 x 4 = ฿272,000 Inverters ฿36,000 x 3 = ฿108,000 = ฿560,000 Savings: PEA saving ฿5,000/month Fuel saving for 2 drivers ฿5,000/month = ฿120,000/Year saving Payback = 4.6 Years - after which free electricity and driving -

I pay ฿26 per month for a 450 sqm house and that includes charging an EV and electric scooter, but I do have solar. -

I designed my house to be off-grid powered by solar. I have a grid connection but it has been switched off at the breaker for over a year now. I installed solar thermal for hot water. You mentioned concern about battery sourcing, I would suggest Lithium Iron Phosphate, which is what I used for home storage. I use excess solar produced in the middle of the day to charge my EV and electric scooter. I have ordered a second EV with an 82kWh LFP battery and V2L (bi-directional charging) which I plan to further support the house to be off-grid during the monsoon season. Toyota like the other Japanese legacy manufacturers are very late to the EV party so they are directing their efforts to posting misinformation rather than developing and building EVs Here in Thailand last month over 10% of all vehicle sales were EV and it's growing all the time Full EV sales last month: Chinese 6,007 Tesla 375 Japanese 19

The biggest car market in the world is China by comparison the Japanese market doesn't compare. Japanese Automakers Face Major Sales Crisis Nissan's sales fell by 45.8% in China last quarter while those at Honda and Mazda dropped by 38.2% and 66.5% respectively https://www.carscoops.com/2023/05/japanese-automakers-struggle-in-china-as-local-ev-manufacturers-dominate-market/

Great to hear, please keep the reports coming e.g. was there a sun shield for the glass roof? We paid our deposit for a White Seal Premium on 29th September (The price was announced at 6pm on 28th September) Seem to be plenty of performance models available - discussed with the wife if we haven't heard anything by the end of this month, we will ask if we get a AWD any quicker -

My MG makes a unintrusive sound like a spaceship which is perfectly acceptable to me. Not sure if it's a generated sound or a slight whine from the electric motor, but ice cream van sound - really -

If the Thai version is the same as the EU version, I will be selecting the "Ice Cream Van" jingle and see how many kiddies come running at the sound 😇
