  1. In case you missed it: BANGKOK (NNT) - A proposal has been raised with the Excise Department, seeking to extend the registration deadline for state-subsidized electric vehicles (EVs). Advisor for the development of the excise control system Nattakorn Uthainsut made the proposal to the Excise Department to amend the regulations pertaining to electric vehicle (EV) purchases. The proposal aims to extend the registration period for state-subsidized electric vehicles, offering a 150,000 THB discount per vehicle, by an additional month to January 31st, 2024, from the initial deadline of December 31st, 2023. This extension seeks to support EV sales under the EV 3.0 project in the first quarter of 2023, following the completion of the initial phase where the government allocated a fund of 3 billion baht, which expired last month. Reports emerged after the cabinet meeting on September 26th, indicating its approval of an additional budget of about one billion baht in the 2023 mid-year budget. This allocation is aimed at boosting the confidence of manufacturers who are eligible under the incentive scheme to invest in electric vehicle production in Thailand between 2024-2025. It also aims to bolster public confidence in purchasing electric vehicles. The cabinet had previously approved a 3 billion baht incentive, offering a discount of 150,000 baht per car, which supports approximately 20,000 electric vehicles. Currently, the number of individuals who have purchased electric vehicles and benefited from this scheme has surpassed initial estimates. This has prompted a request for an additional budget of 1 billion baht, as electric vehicle registration under this project has already exceeded 37,000 and could potentially rise to 50,000 vehicles.
  2. Thailand pledges support for ICE vehicle production amidst EV transition. “Thai prime minister highlighted Japan’s position as the top foreign direct investor. However, he raised concerns that the evolving Thai EV market might disadvantage Japanese businesses, given their slower pace in adopting EV technology” https://thethaiger.com/news/business/thailand-pledges-support-for-ice-vehicle-production-amidst-ev-transition Seems a strange comment consider the massive recent investment by Chinese companies in Thailand. In addition to the fuel subsidy what are they going to do?
  3. So Tesla is now selling Model 3s in the USA for ฿1m before incentives. Dropping the price in Thailand from ฿1.759m to ฿1.6m sounds like too little too late.
  4. Thanks @Andrew Dwyer please post again next month. BYD Dolphin and Atto 3 both with over 1,600 and Tesla Model Y 250 and model 3 125. Maybe Tesla is starting to realize they have over priced their cars here. Maybe if they had offered model 3 for ฿1.3m
  5. The loan is in my wife's name but it's my finance their looking at. Have bought a car this way before.
  6. All good reasons and I why I ordered a LR BYD Seal. Talking of which got contacted by SCB yesterday (who I have banked with for over 20 years) about the finance on the Seal. They asked for a copy of my UK tax return for 22-23 and Land Registry documents for my UK properties which I sent them. They turned up at the house yesterday wanting a tour of the house and the grounds - all seemed a bit OTT
  7. For those that missed it, after BYD launched the Seal in Thailand getting 1,000 orders in the first hour, Tesla listed the Highland Model 3 on it’s Thailand page at a substantial discount. In all other countries that I have seen, the price has been raised over the previous version. One other thing to note, in Thailand no delivery date is listed, unlike in other countries. My thoughts on this is that Tesla wanted to show a reduced price to disrupt sales of the BYD Seal even thought they had no immediate plans to sell the Highland model 3 here.
  8. MP didn’t want a driver, wanted to drive himself.
  9. wife contacted them and asked for quote for PPF wrap for Seal. They responded with details of promotion for ceramic coating!
  10. Like you not much on offer in Surin, but my closest BYD dealer in next door in Buriram home of motor racing with many more options. Plan to contact them later today get some information.
  11. Not sure if anyone is in the BYD Seal Thailand FB group. The admin of the group has a black Seal and was planning to wrap it in PPF but got hit before he could. The black colour clearly shows the white undercoat. Anybody thinking of getting a PPF wrap? He tested the depth of paint and said it was a good standard. Here is the video of the damage. Apologies that that it’s in Thai https://www.facebook.com/groups/bydsealclub/permalink/1007526720466067/
  12. Went to land transport today to check I had the correct paperwork to sell a vehicle (deposit for the BYD Seal purchase) Sometimes Yellow House Books are not considered proof address, it seems to vary by province. “You bought it in another province. Have to go back to that province to sell it. Or you could transfer the vehicle to this province but that takes at least a week” I did try to transfer the vehicle to my new province when I moved here but LT said it wasn’t necessary. I tried to insist that I wanted to do the transfer but they insisted it wasn’t necessary. All of this has pushed back the date to pickup the Seal - apparently to an unlucky day!
  13. This is the one I ordered- it was on promotion at the time. I drink a lot of water so nice to have the ice. Even the dogs like it. https://s.lazada.co.th/s.PhmxN
  14. It is a check freezer - so it’s a big size. I packed the bottom with large boxes of water, which froze solid after that I setup the timer. The ice boxes act as a cold sink to hold the temperature during the night. An upright freezer the cold air falls out when you open the door.
  15. I frankly find it pretty pathetic that grown men that have no firsthand knowledge or experience of a subject are so passionate in trying to teach the rest of us all about it.
  16. Your Hybrid has a 1kWh battery, your mountain bike 500W Doesn’t qualify you as an expert on proper EVs My EV has 86kWh
  17. Says the guy who has never owned an EV and clearly by his posts knows nothing about them apart from the fake news he reads online
  18. If you had a genuine concern you would have posted about it before - you haven’t - I rest my case. The EV saloon I am buying weighs less than the average pickup for sale in Thailand, so yes I don’t care about its weight.
  19. Just wanted to know if you are genuinely concerned about heavy vehicles damaging the roads or just wanted to engage in some EV bashing - thanks for confirming my suspicions.
  20. I have an ice making machine which runs during the middle of day. My chest freezer is on a timer that switches off at night. Any other load shifting you can do.
  21. Do please share a link to where you have complained about massive trucks destroying the roads. I can wait
  22. Depreciation varies, during covid used EVs were selling for more than new ones due part shortage for new cars. The UK is currently in as massive financial crisis caused by Brexit and financial mismanagement. As well as an energy crisis causes by a short sighted “cut the green crap” approach to becoming energy independent. No onshore wind and grants for home solar cut overnight devastating the industry. 32% of households in Australia have solar. In the UK it’s 4%. In the light of the above nobody is buying expensive new or used cars and those with them can’t afford to keep them. However, it is interesting that the same publications crowing about depreciation on EVs were the same ones complaining that ULEV compliant vehicles were too expensive even secondhand. Back to Thailand. I ordered my second EV last week. I have solar and don’t have a PEA bill. I put excess power into running my first EV, but I have enough extra power for a second EV. It comes with 8 years warranty on the car. 8 years warranty on the battery. 8 years 100% free servicing. 8 years free breakdown cover. I will be keeping it for at least…… 8 years so won’t worry about depreciation.
