  1. Windows 8 does offer other benefits, but the UI is not one of them.

So I've installed it on all my PC's but continue to use it in the normal Win 7 Desktop style.

The UI is for tablets plain and simple, it's been on Windows Phones since v7; I was an early adopter and I love it as a messaging, mail and surfing phone (only).

So why do you use it? Specifically? It's "faster". Faster doing what exactly?

Sure. Widows 8 is faster on some things but only marginally faster. I mean really. How much faster is Windows 8. REALLY?

It is significantly faster at switching between Windows; where I had a noticeable lag before, it's gone (I did an in-place upgrade of Win 7).

As far as the other things I wanted, USB 3.0 native support, the new multi-monitor layout and Hyper-V.

    Next?

A lag switching between windows? Ahahahahaha :D

So you wanted some features of windows 8. Fine. But I still don't get you people and the love for the start menu.

I NEVER use the start menu. I just pin stuff to the taskbar.

Is it really that hard to pin things to the start screen?

    Seriously.

  2. You guys are making no sense. Especially the guy who says he NEEDS the start menu.

That's ridiculous. If anything, the START screen removes all interruptions. As soon as the computer starts you can have all your shortcuts to what you need there, and bypass clicking on START.

Look at this guy's start screen mr "I need a start button". Now. You tell me what this guy here needs a start button for

    startmenu-2b.jpg

There Turkleton or whatever. You're telling me this guy needs a start button? For what?

  4. You have direct access to everything. Just move your mouse to the right. Under START there's a SETTINGS wheel

Do you really think this workflow:

    1. click the "desktop" tile

    2. find the three pixel in the upper right top corner, which bring the "charms bar" into the foreground.

(*May work* on a single screen, but on a multi monitor setup, the mouse doesn't stop in the corner)

    3. click settings

    4. click control panel (ps: where is the "run" and the "printer" button?)

    is more intuitive than this:

press Windows button, than click control panel

you must be joking, my friend

It is faster than Win 7 though, I'll give it that.

A fresh install, for sure. Even in a VM, W8 is faster than my native W7

But wait until every program loads it's garbage into the registry and the different autostarts..tongue.png

PS: could you please avoid to post such oversized images, horizontal scrolling is just annoying.

    No.

The charms bar is everywhere no matter where you are. That makes it much better than a start menu only accessible on the desktop.

Second, you don't have to fish for it. All you do is touch the right side of your screen top or bottom corners.

And third - why are you going through all those steps??? Just put a shortcut on the start screen and you're done! So actually, you can get to control panel in ONE STEP and skip clicking on START.

You really don't get Windows 8. You're thinking in Windows 7 terms.

They have to put your control panel and all things in a place where you can get to it no matter where you are, because the Metro experience is a full screen immersive experience, so it would be a hassle to have to go back to the start screen, go to the desktop, click on Start and Control Panel.

If I'm on IE10 browsing the Internet, I want to move my mouse to the right and have my Settings right there without having to leave the browser.

Here's a simpler solution for you. Just keep windows 7. Done.

  5. We may want to go bigger in the future so I was wondering if that engine was enough to move that massive truck. They also have a 3.0L v6 so maybe that can move it better? If the 2.5 diesel is good enough then 1.2 million is a good price.

I'm used to V6 3.0L 220HP on family sedans in the US. So just curious.

I sat in a Pajero Sport and my wife and I really liked it. Maybe I'll take it for a test drive someday.

I heard from an owner the ride is much better compared to a Fortuner. he said the Fortuner is more like a pick up and the Pajero more like a car.

If we want to go bigger, now that I have a Cruze, MAYBE if I get close to 550,000-600,000 for it that can put the Pajero sport within my monthly payment budget. That's why I'm asking.

  6. yes. the start button is there. click it. it will bring you to the start screen. that's the way forward. if you want Windows 7, then keep it! it's a perfectly good OS.

People who say "there's no start button in windows 8" drive me nuts. I guess they've never used windows 8. It's right here:

    <snip>

    and here

    <snip>

and the start menu is here

you can group the tiles the way you want to. a group for office, and group for adobe, etc. it's a tile representation of the old folder start menu from Windows 95. At some point they have to move on. You can try another OS, or keep windows 7.

in thailand a lot of laptops come empty. it's your choice what to put in there. some are still rocking XP SP3 and are happy.

I don't want to start Metro. I want a Start button that gives me direct access to things like Computer, Control Panel, Documents, all of my applications and a command line.

    That's what they've removed.

Put it back with ViStart and you have both. I don't know why they removed it.

You have direct access to everything. Just move your mouse to the right. Under START there's a SETTINGS wheel.

    Windows-8-Settings-Charm.png

Everything is right there. It's just because it looks different people automatically reject it. Just try it.

You can also put all those shortcuts right on the metro start screen as tiles if you don't want to move your mouse to the right. You can have anything you want as tiles and group it however you want to. As soon as the computer start you'll have it all there.

  8. Unless your are using a Tablet PC, why would anyone want to use windoze 8?

The overhype is starting to remind me of vista.

Perhaps you are confused by the Metro interface. You don't *have* to use it, and in multiple monitors you can use it *and* a standard Windows desktop. The omission of a start button for me is a glaring error, but that's easily fixed.

It's speed is excellent, I'm finding it much faster than Win 7. It also has some improved features under the hood, but many of them probably aren't needed by most users.

It is a bit like Vista, in as much as they've rushed it out to try and get a go at the tablet market before its too late.

But it isn't like Vista in that it isn't so damned slow.

Very true plus the lettering on names are bigger to say the old start-up menu easier on the eye's ..

Here a cool app about all the movies that have come out give you reviews rating casting and some more ..

    ol1m1.png

I wonder where they got the idea...

    ScreenShot2012-09-09at82032AM.png

oh wait... Windows 8 has it "Metro", what we in the real world call "Full Screen". Hang on...

hey look. I've got behind the scenes featurettes and everything. hmmm..

what's the point really. If you want the old, keep windows 7. if you want to embrace the new, then the way forward will be metro.

as usual, it is the normal reaction to resist change. Just keep windows 7 and problem solved. Windows 7 is a great OS. There's no real reason to change it.

There are 2 start buttons. You mean start menu?

The start button is on the left corner or the right side of the screen. Start menu is now this Start screen with the tiles instead of the list.

  11. another guy here.

Why not buy a box of chocolates, and ask for one of the postal boxes to pack it in, then with her looking pack the box. Do not write an address on it, go to her when your number is called and give her the box, then when she sees no address on it, ask her to write hers on it. See what the reaction is.

    oh brother rolleyes.gif

How about how about this one..

Hi! Hey. What time do you get out? OK. You have plans today? Because you're coming with me to dinner. I want you to try this place... yes? yea. your friend can come too.

    Done.

Get a couple of them. One of them should bite.

  12. If i was single again one day i would never pursue a woman. ever. if they come to me fine, if not, just enjoy the peacefulness of not having to deal with a woman. just be by yourself and do whatever you want.

anyway, just cut the crap. if you want to go somewhere with her, say hey, remember me? the creepy guy? yea. so.. you want to go to dinner with me? there's this great restaurant over there.

if she says no and has an excuse, she doesn't like you. move on.

If there's something in Thailand that you'll find a lot of are pretty girls, so get over it in 1 second and say OK BYE!.

  13. I will have to join the choir and say get an Isuzu. I love their interior and it looks nice and modern.

The Mazda just looks super gay. Looks gay in the front but the rear lights are a disaster.

but there are things you can do to minimize the gay like this

    Just get a Dmax.

  14. I reckon the popularity of the Cruze between now and 2015 will have more influence on the resale value than the mileage. Last time I sold a car through the tent dealers, some of them did not even look at the odometer. They seem to have a price list in their heads by model and year with minor adjustment for interior and exterior cosmetic condition and that's about it.

500,000 from a dealer who then advertises the 4 year old Cruze for 600,000 sounds plausible.

That's because every used car dealer here alters the odometer, so it doesn't really matter. The milage will be what they want.

  15. eventually, everything will be "retina", their schtick word. When, as usual, you just have to wait for the unveiling.

The question is, is it worth the price? If I was out to buy a 15" Macbook Pro I wouldn't buy a retina display. Even with the dedicated video card it lags big time. Even just scrolling down google images or resizing the notes app.

I think it's because the switchable graphics aren't really playing well with that many pixels. To conserve battery life, it switches to the integrated graphics but this can't hand;e the retina so it lags. switch to the graphics card, it looks great, but the battery dies quickly.

There's a lot to be ironed out with the retina display. Retina Display Macbooks are in a sort of "testing" phase. I don't think they're ready for primetime.

To be honest, the regular 13" Pro does just fine. I'd rather a Macbook Air 13". If you need more "specs" then look into a Windows laptop.

  16. How much do you think a dealer will pay me for my car in 2015? (Provided it has never been in an accident and it's in perfect working order).

2011 Cruze LS 1.8 - 875,000 baht. - pretty much stock with a leather conversion.

Thaicruze, the big issue is the mileage that your car will have accumulated by then. Anything over 100 k and it is likely the depreciation will be even steeper.

3 yrs from now... maybe you should take a look at the prices 3-yr old chevys fetch on 2nd hand sites such as one2car.

Accessories generally do not fetch a premium.

Sent from my GT-N7000 using Thaivisa Connect App

I calculate in 2015 my car will have around 80,000km on it.

    I am guessing 500,000 baht?

    I can't find any Cruze's from 2010. They're selling one like mine 2011 for 800,000.

  17. I like the Focus, but it's too small like the Mazda 3. For ME. Doesn't mean it's bad. I just want more space.

But if you're thinking about spending Civic money, better put it towards a Focus.

The 2012 Civic is somewhat of a fail for me. It's also not as spacious as it should be. It's basically a slightly bigger City, so just save the money and get a top of the line City for 700,000.

Honda and Toyota aren't selling anything worth buying. Toyota keeps pumping out the same cars they've been selling for the last 10 years with face lifts. and Honda is dreaming. But out of the 2, the City is, for me, the only worth buying. otherwise, just get something else.

  18. I think the Civic is a crap car. I think the new one adds a better interior but I would NEVER buy a car that got a "DON'T BUY" rating from Consumer Reports. I drove last year's model. Cost like 900,000+ baht. The ride was horrendous and drove me into a Chevrolet showroom.

Just get her an entry level City and call it a day, if you want Honda.

Toyota doesn't have anything. You can skip it.

Ford fiesta has probably the worst interior of all of them.

I have the Cruze. Love it.

The Mitsubishi Lancer is nice also.

    Civic, not so much.
