Thai man arrested over death of Thai woman with tattoos in Chon Buri
nahkit replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
"the officers utilised her tattoos – specifically, the word สายเถื่อน (savage) – and images of two Thai hermits as vital clues to trace her family and relatives. " -
Meanwhile, in other news :- "Foreigners net-sold US$95m across TIP markets for the week that ended on December 1, following the net-selling of $80m marked for the previous week. However, for the second week running, the selling was limited to just one jurisdiction—foreigners net-sold $168m in Thailand, but net-bought $38m in Indonesia and $35m in the Philippines. In North Asia, foreigners net-bought $178m in South Korea and $1,206m in Taiwan." Courtesy of Bualuang securities.

Getting used to live in a wheel chair

Unbelievable, talk about blame the victim. -
I'd happily pay it too but they wont let me use Paypal as my account doesn't match the country I am accessing Youtube from. I tried the Shopee pay method but they wont accept my Thai pink card number and Bangkok Bank say I need a work permit to get a credit card with them despite banking with them for over 30 years. Perhaps if they made it easier to pay then they'd get more people taking up the 159 baht offer.

Kamnan Nok scandal lifts lid on Thai bureaucracy’s corruption crisis
nahkit replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yes, that's correct but it was recovered. "CCTV recordings showed Praween and his aide leaving the house with a police escort" Could also be that in this particular instance they are referring to CCTV retrieved from other cameras in the same street. -
Motorbike Training — Khon Kaen
nahkit replied to ExPatInChiangMai's topic in Motorcycles in Thailand
I used an ID driving school in Khonkaen (there are more than one), to learn how to ride a motorcycle. I was assured that an English speaking instructor would be provided. They asked me to attend on a weekend, I told them I would prefer to do it weekdays to which they agreed. The day before I was due to start learning, they told me that the instructor wasn't available but he would be there at the weekend. Ok, you win, I'll show up at the weekend. I was told to attend at 6am (that's not a typo, yes, the course started at 6am). After they did the necessary paperwork and collected the fee they went away for 10 mins and then came back and told me there was no English instructor available and they didn't know when there would be. I was then asked to ride around the test area after which I went back into the classroom and was given English printouts of the exam test questions and told to learn them. That was the whole course, practice the questions, no riding instruction whatsoever. I even asked the instructors (via Google translate) if there were any riding techniques they could teach me and I was told no. At the end of the course I answered enough questions on the test to pass and was given a motorcycle licence. There was no eye-test, reaction test or peripheral test. So there I was, the proud owner of a Thai motorcycle licence with no knowledge of how to actually safely ride a motorcycle (at least, no knowledge passed on by the driving school). Perhaps I impressed them so much when I went once around the test track that they felt no need to teach me anything. I did actually watch them teaching car drivers how to parallel park when I got bored looking at the test questions but that seemed to be the limit of what they taught. A couple of times on a Sunday I have seen a group of motorcyclists riding around cones in the area between Wufoo and McDonalds that look like they are receiving instruction, might be worth a drive past and see if your daughter could join them. -

Former senator proposes ways to cut energy prices
nahkit replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
The senator is right about the IPPS contracts with their "take or pay" deals where the consumer ends up paying for excess electricity. Not sure how much of this article I can quote under fair usage rules but I think its well worth a read. “There isn’t a way to call anyone accountable for this failure in planning,” Chuenchom said. “We can’t really hold anybody responsible for all the excess investment or the excess burden that could eventually get passed on to consumers.” The article also talks about how its nigh on impossible to calculate the true cost to the consumer of these deals due to the way they are structured. https://earthjournalism.net/stories/locked-in-why-thailand-buys-electricity-from-laos -
Former senator proposes ways to cut energy prices
nahkit replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
"The energy from dams in Laos is cheaper than any energy source Thailand can produce itself. It is almost 30% less expensive than natural gas and almost 80% less expensive than solar power." From a report written in November 2021, I doubt if much has changed since then. https://earthjournalism.net/stories/locked-in-why-thailand-buys-electricity-from-laos Could well be that if everyone turned to solar the price would come down but would it come down enough to close that 80% gap? -

Who he? -
IIRC the new witness was killed in a motorcycle accident in the early hours of the morning, less than 24hrs after he was produced as a witness. Again, IIRC, it was several years after the Red Bull accident took place before the new witness remembered he had seen 'Boss' driving at a normal speed. The other thing that came up was at the time the new witness died, his phone was removed from his body at the hospital by an aide who worked for the governor of Chiang Mai. Strange really, how the governors aide just happened to be at the hospital at 2am, when the body was brought in.

Petition submitted against Thaksin seeking Royal pardon
nahkit replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
You're comparing apples and oranges - the Red Bull heir has never been tried and convicted, Thaksin has. The statute of limitations only applies to how long prosecutors have to bring a case against the accused, there is no statute of limitations once you have been convicted. p.s. yes, both should be in jail. -
