  1. The place got popular so they jacked up rents and prices but didn't maintain quality. Now, it's not a good value. All of Thailand could take a lesson here.
  2. Yet another wingnut conspiracy theory turns out to be true.
  3. Was anywhere in Thailand safe for non-Japanese (non Axis) civilians in the last one? As I recall, even the civilians were rounded up and either shipped to Japan or to Kanchanaburi.
  4. Is tukcom in Pattaya? I'm not familiar... I've heard of it, obviously. Just don't recall ever being there. I spend most of my BKK time in Chinatown each month, with at least one or 2 forays to Fortune Town and MBK. There are some repair geniuses in all 3. I'm in awe of how cheap they've fixed me up in the past.
  5. And assuming there will be no AI screw-ups. Watch WarGames, and that was 1983. Actors today aren't nearly as smart as Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy. Neither are the writers. I still question the viability of Thailand, depending on which side they capitulate to. Thailand worked out badly for round eyes during the last WW. It could be just as bad in the next one.
  6. Some parent won't teach their kids to swim because they're afraid their kids would sneak into the water and drown. They'd rather the kids have a healthy fear of the water. Even if they reach the steep, slippery shore (or a ladderless dock) they can only tread water for a limited time. They're just kids. Given that there are 2 different doctrines, is it really fair to contend that it's lack of care? Or is that just Thai bashing? Personally, I'd teach mine to swim, then put the fear of God into them to stay away from the water when there's no adults. But I wouldn't dream of accusing any parent on the other side of "not caring".
  7. The flipside of that argument is that kids who can swim are more likely to sneak into the water when the adults aren't around. I'm not claiming either side is safer. I don't have those stats. Edit: But I'd add that there are a lot of places where the water is easy to get in, and impossible to get out on a steep, slippery bank. (Or a dock with no ladder.) Kids don't have that kind of judgment yet, even if they can swim.
  8. It wasn't too good for non-Japanese foreigners in the last one. They're going to pick a side and if you're not on that side, you'll be skedaddling (or working on a railroad).
  9. Can't say I've ever tasted any of those. I won't miss 'em.
  10. You may be right. But I'd bet that some Thai guy sitting in a repair kiosk could root it and load a more current OS version.
  11. There's 100 repair kiosks just in Bangkok that could have gotten you another 10 years out of it. That's one thing I love about Thailand.
  12. No, those are the shills hired by the Dems heckling them.
  13. Do you think there's some deep and philosophical meaning to Pocahontas doing her Nazi salute with her left hand?
  14. I'm a luddite. I want a cradle or cable that does all the matching and pairing and synching for me. Just plug in the USB-C (or Firewire) and out comes HDMI and Bluetooth and whatever else I need. I've actually done it with my Samsung Tablet, but it was too fiddly for a luddite like me.
  15. Not suitable for arthritic elephant thumbs 🥰 Some day, one of the smartphone companies will come out with a cradle that I can plug my smartphone in and use a full size monitor, a keyboard and a mouse when I'm at home. (Or at Starbucks or the airport, or the hotel... or,,,) The processing power is there. And it would sure be convenient. I hate typing on a tiny screen. The first company that comes out with one and does hotel and venue tie-ins would rule the world.
  16. That and a few graphs are all you need to debunk a lot of the climate change hoaxes. Here's one of my favorites. From WaPo, no less: They say it's a warning of the consequences of human-caused warming. But it really shows how little human activity affects the changes.
  17. Are you insinuating he's an oligarch? If you are, you wouldn't be too far from the truth. Flying around in private jets to call out oligarchs. Hypocrisy at its finest.
  18. Here's the experiment I always suggest. Hack up a big lugey and spit it as far as you can. Then, try that with a mask on. The masks can't stop a virus. But they can stop the big lugeys the viruses hitch a ride on.
  19. Goddam. I'm a wingnut conspiracy fan and I'm even vaccine injured, but I still have to shake my head at this crap.
  20. The USA is in desperate need of a 3rd Party. But I'm not sure Bernie is the one I'd trust to lead it. And I know I wouldn't trust AOC.
  21. I'm just using the ol' lefty trick of predicting the future as if it's an indisputable truth. And you'd better send money or parts are going to fall off. Parts that you'll miss.
  22. It's real. The climate has been changing for billions of years, and it will continue to change, even after the zombie apocalypse and when there's no industrial activity at all. The scam is taking money from some and handing it over to others.
