That's why what he did was actually pretty amazing. Came from nowhere. No name recognition. No history. And yet, scored a respectable number. Not competitive, but respectable. -

Gallup Poll: https://dailycaller.com/2024/01/12/democrats-party-id-record-low-2024-poll/ A record low percentage of Americans identified as Democrats in 2023 ahead of a contentious presidential election year, according to a Friday poll. Only 27% of Americans self-identify as Democrats, reaching the smallest figure for the party in Gallup’s recorded history, according to the survey. And from USA Today: Biden now claims the support of just 63% of Black voters, a precipitous decline from the 87% he carried in 2020, according to the Roper Center. He trails among Hispanic voters by 5 percentage points, 39%-34%; in 2020 he had swamped Trump among that demographic group 2 to 1, 65%-32%. And among voters under 35, a generation largely at odds with the GOP on issues such as abortion access and climate change, Trump now leads 37%-33%. Younger voters overwhelmingly backed Biden in 2020. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2024/01/01/biden-trump-poll-odds-black-hispanic-young-voters/72072111007/ -

They don't usually have sitting presidents polling around 33%, either. They're making a mistake not primarying him. The Dems are leaving the party in droves, Blacks, Hispanics, and all the other Dems that see the contempt that the party elite have for the voters. -

I think he'll focus on the message that they weren't killing the heck out of each other last time he was Prez. The beauty is he gets a 2-fer with that message, given that neither were the Russkies and the Ukes, when he was in office. -
60 day tourrist visa problem
impulse replied to Seppius's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
As a US citizen, I got my first Thailand visa at the Thai Embassy in Beijing. Just 'cause that's where I was staying- I didn't know any better. Beijing is also where I got my first Russian visa. In each case, there was a little 'splaining (why I was in China) but no big problems. In his circumstances, I wouldn't worry because there are so many great cheap weekend side trips he can take to reset his 30 day clock. And it doesn't sound like he's skint. But I'd suggest next time trying the nearest Thai consulate in the USA. TBH, I don't know if that's do-able, but maybe someone will chime in here who has actually done it. -
Does he know if he's a dude, and that being skint that day doesn't make it okay to rob the 7/11? I think a lot of the guys here have fond memories of an education system back home that doesn't exist any more. At least not in the same form.

Ouch. True, but Ouch.

US and UK launch strikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen
impulse replied to CharlieH's topic in World News
Do you honestly believe that you and I understand the cause and effects of foreign policy based on what our politicians and pundits tell us? Or believe that we understand the dynamics of ethnic relations in the FSU? (Just like I get a kick out of the guys that think they understand politics in Thailand) Results are the only fair way to judge an administration. And based only on results, hundreds of thousands of Ukes and Russkies and tens of thousands of Palestinians and Israelis didn't die, under Trump. They died on Biden's watch. And hundreds of billions of US tax money has been spent. I don't claim to know why that is. It would be arrogant to think I know why, or claim to know what went on behind closed doors or in the minds of world leaders. -

Here's what I understand. Under Obama, Putin took Crimea. Under Biden, Putin took Donbas, Palestinians attacked Israel, Iranian backed Houthis are attacking shipping in the Red Sea. Under Trump, Putin behaved, and so did Iran, their surrogates and the Palestinians. I miss mean tweets. And peace. The rest of it is just gum flapping. -

I clicked on the link to see if the sedan was white, or the hot headed driver. Even with that answered, I'm still confused about what happened. -

US House votes to authorise Biden impeachment inquiry

Gotta hand it to someone over at Dem Central. If you wanted to make Biden impeachment proof, choosing Kamala as VP was sheer genius. -
Can i keep my family in home country from knowing if i die?
impulse replied to Pouatchee's topic in General Topics
They do not have any interest in the OPs estate if he does not put it in his will. Circling back on that, how do they know they have no interest in the will if they don't know he died and have an opportunity to see the will. Or even if they just hear from an attorney that there's nothing in it for them? And regardless of what you may believe you have "back home", it's almost impossible to leave without something being unfinished. For which the family will be contacted. -

Hiding? He held his own town hall in Iowa that outdrew the Haley/DeSantis debate by 4.3 million to 2.6 million viewers. https://apnews.com/article/cnn-debate-fox-news-town-hall-viewers-d5478967c2a1bac2ae3ed00139a1e494 At the same time, his rivals across town held what Politico is calling a dumpster fire... I'm not sure he wanted to be part of that. https://www.politico.com/news/2024/01/11/trump-town-hall-republican-debate-takeaways-00134990 -
