  1. That's what I thought at first. But how would they prosecute the offender without exposing the hookers he's attacking and subjecting them to legal penalties for hooking? I'm hoping they're going to deal with the guy unofficially. Out back, and with extreme prejudice.
  2. That's Trudeau's game, and Trump is pushing back against it. It may be a while, but most Canucks will be thanking Trump before it's over. Business will be humming, oil and gas (and money) will be flowing and normal Canucks and Yanks will both do better financially. Except the freeloaders.
  3. So, nothing to add. No information. Not even an explanation for your belief. Just a personal attack. Loserthink.
  4. Valid point, but usually they refer to an ankle bracelet as an ankle bracelet. Not as a bracelet.
  5. I always presumed it was their penchant for being far more reactive and rarely proactive! Perhaps they want to discourage freelancers. Why else would a Thai woman follow a strange foreigner into his hotel room? Usually, protecting them is a pimp's job. If they're freelancers with no backup, they're on their own. It sucks, but such is life in that seedy world. I'd add that it's probably tough to make a case in a he said- she said situation like that. Edit: I'd also add the sensitivity of prosecuting him for attacking hookers while turning a blind eye to hooking. I suspect the guy will be dealt with "unofficially". With no public fanfare. The Thai way.
  6. That's what they said about running black candidates. They were wrong. Americans will elect a female president. But they have to run a non-toxic woman if they want to win. And not a DEI.
  7. Hard to say. Usually, police electronic monitoring devices are on the ankle. I suspect they may be confusing a smartwatch. Which is another type of EM.
  8. Collecting firewood or illegally selling protected hardwood?
  9. For years, the right has questioned the viability and the wisdom of electric cars. We've objected to the gub'ment subsidies. But we didn't burn anything down. Now that the left is cheezed off at Musk, they're burning TESLA charging stations. Arsonist sets fire to Tesla charging stations: Police Elon Musk, the Tesla CEO, and his company have faced backlash in recent weeks. From ABC News... 10. I'm betting on Trump. No buffet has ever defeated him. Oh. 2 T's. Never mind.
  11. Prison terms just for holding a flag is a scary proposition. The start of a very slippery slope.
  12. This coming from the same guys who said inflation isn't Biden's fault, it's happening all over the world. Wouldn't that mean that the UK middle class is also being hollowed out, and they're not making the additional coin to compensate, like the Yanks? You can't have it both ways. As much as the lefties try. I've been hearing lately that the EU economy today is only 60% of the US economy, and when the EU was formed, they were about equal. I don't claim to know what numbers they're referring to exactly since EU countries have come and gone since its inception. But it sure seems to reflect that bad policy is dragging the EU down.
  13. So which of the Dems in the photo are moderates? I don't see any. Maybe if they put Fetterman or Shapiro up there...
  14. Here's them getting caught, when Musk offered up a free Cybertruck to anyone who could identify the author of the Dem talking point. You won't find this on CNN or MSNBC. BTW, Cory Booker fessed up to being the source.
  15. No. It's diverted into the general fund for whatever the gub'ment wants to spend it on. Which makes it a Ponzi scheme. Some of it is actually paid back to placate existing investors (retirees), but that's what Ponzi did, too. A lot of it just disappears into the ether. Like trans surgeries in Guatemala and drag queen story hours in Slobovia.
  16. I had to question my memory, looking at the photo in the OP. I lived and worked around Asoke for years and don't remember any part of Khlong Toei that looks that scenic. Then I noticed it's a stock photo. I liked shopping the market, but it was extremely grungy and smelled funky. I hope they don't destroy what a lot of us love about Bangkok in the name of "improvement". They're actually doing some nice improvements in Chinatown, and I hope they continue the ambiance into other areas. And that they don't burden the vendors with huge rent increases.
  17. The Ukrainian and Russkie kids sitting on the front line, just for a start. I'm sure they'd like to live.
  18. During that year we all wore black shirts, mine were always gray by the end of the day from the dried sweat. I supplement my salt intake when in Thailand.
  19. Is that the shop that was associated with Bungsamran (sp?)? Better yet, where are they located now? Oops. Never mind for me. I found them on a map. Others may be interested, though.
  20. When I read stories like this about zillion dollar projects (with lawyers and sophisticated developers) being built on land that's later deemed out of bounds, I wonder what chance a normal foreigner has of knowing what he's really bought, and whether he'll be able to keep it. Or even a Thai everyman...
  21. One of the first things I do when I want to check a price in Thailand is look up the same product on Amazon or EBay or even Walmart. That means using USD (or GBP if it's Amazon or Ebay.uk). Some products, Thailand is cheaper. Sometimes, though, Thailand prices are way out of line. In which case, I seek a different product that will do the job I need without gouging me. That's hardly "out of touch".
  22. What surprises me is that the BIB don't jump all over that revenue stream. They could make a mint ticketing traffic scofflaws.
  23. Or perhaps it's a diversion from the despicable things being said about the victim by people who don't know what happened, never met the guy, and bash everything and everyone on their list. Whatever list that is. Some folks are just going to get on here and be cruel. May as well be aimed at me. I don't give a rat.
  24. There is hardly a week that goes by that we're not reading about some falang losing everything to their wife. Whether that be at home or in Thailand. I'll bet that $1,900 looks pretty good to a guy whose wife just moved her "brother" into the house he built for her them.
  25. Given the sad state of the sidewalks, I don't know anybody living in Thailand that doesn't violate road laws, even on foot. I do it all the time, just walking. When there's a hazard, I walk out on the road. Even that's illegal. Baby strollers? Same thing. Wheelchairs? My heart goes out to them taking their lives in their hands when the sidewalks are impassible. Same with mobility scooters. The sad fact is that violating the transport laws is impossible to avoid. We're just left deciding which ones.
