U.S. Suspends $5 Billion EV Charger Program, Sparking Backlash
impulse replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Last I saw reported, those $5 Billion dollars had resulted in about a dozen charging stations actually being built. The rest were held up for regulatory approvals. That doesn't seem like a prudent way to tie up $5 billion that we don't have. I'm sure the rest of it would have leaked over the next 10-20 years, resulting in 100 charging stations and no more money. Going to lawyers and NGOs and consultants and... and... Kinda like high speed rail in Newsom's California. -
Michigan State Rep sterilized herself to protest Trump
impulse replied to connda's topic in Off the beaten track
Think about that for even a millisecond with some semblance of reason. That would be like me cutting off my willy just so Taylor Swift can't take "liberties" with me, and I'd have to pay her child support. The woman is a whackadoodle. Even reasonable liberals are cringing. Far lefties are probably shouting "Amen, sister" -
You mean those of us who were 3-1/2 years ahead of the curve on Biden's cognitive decline? Liberals aren't going to live that down for decades. At least a few election cycles. And DOGE is just getting warmed up on naming and shaming.

You do realize that fact checkers and foreign news sources were getting USAID money, too. A reasonable person may ask if that influenced their reporting. One of the first signs of the "syndrome" is the abandonment of all reason and the loss of critical thinking skills.

To me, the question is whether a minor, low level judge in Fish Shack Arkansas should have the power to overrule the elected President of the USA on a national issue. My answer is, no. You can find a low level judge that agrees to almost anything if you venue shop hard enough. Then the President's options are to defy the judge while waiting for the ruling to be appealed, or to knuckle under. Trump's taking the right course. Carry on with the rat killing while the questionable decisions are fought on the appeals ladder. He's only got 3.9 years left to fix decades of rot. Edit: If he really wanted labial liberal heads to explode, he'd pre-emptively pardon Musk, Big Balls, and the rest of the DOGE team.

Not in China, you wouldn't. When I first got to China, I was wearing a green hat and my translator suggested I wear a different color. A green hat here means you're a "turtle", whose wife is cheating on him. I got a MAGA hat made in Chatuchuk market just to see if I could. I've never worn it. I generally don't wear ballcaps overseas, either since there are places it's not a good idea that the locals think I'm a Yank. I wear a flat cap to protect my bald head from the sun.

If she's not a Republican plant on a false flag mission, there are no words to describe the stoopidity... -
Fast Track arrival recommendations
impulse replied to Thai Chi's topic in Suvarnabhumi Airport Forum
Your mileage may vary, but I've had 21 consecutive monthly flights into Suvarnabhumi and the longest I've queued up in the peons' immigration line is 20 minutes, and usually it's less than 5 minutes. Going for #22 on Feb 14... I'll post back if I just jinxed myself. Unless I had genuine mobility issues, I wouldn't spend the money and take my chances on (what I have heard) is hit or miss service. Besides, I've met some real nice people in the peon queue. And a few hotties. But way out of my age appropriate range. Darn it. Edit: I'd add that the luggage service has been pretty prompt, post Covid. -
US Aid Freeze Linked to Refugee's Death at Thai Border
impulse replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I'm open to that possibility, but I can't figure out what the WH would gain with such a lie that would be sure to be exposed. It's not as if there's an election between now and the public release of the audit results. -
Maybe someone can set me straight... Years ago (2011?) when I first started working in LOS, some of my western co-workers claimed that there were charter flights from Russia once a week carrying "workers". They'd stay 4 weeks to keep to the 30 days on their visa, then fresh ones would cycle in with new visas on the weekly charter. Were they yanking my chain? The topic came up on a company van ride that took us past U-Tapao.

Are high end smartphones worth the money (to you)?
impulse replied to impulse's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
I don't disagree about the need for "buyer beware". I did get a little triggered at his contention that "If you got a poor product it's because you chose poorly". Regardless of how diligent a buyer is, Thailand's supply chain is leaky and counterfeit products can get on even the official brands' shelves. Even "back home" that happens. Walmart occasionally finds fakes in their retail stores. That's not because the customer chose poorly. It's because counterfeiters are crafty bastards. They can swap in a fake at many stages along the supply chain. Regarding Lazada, they can't police everything, but if a casual user like me can see a product listed for an impossible price, they're falling down on the job. Algorithms should pick those up before they even get posted. As I said, I like Lazada and had hundreds of satisfactory transactions. But they could do better. -

Agreed. And a lot of those so called independent journalists are just pissed off that their USAID funding will end. As I read it, about 8000 "journalists" have been getting USAID money. To perpetuate that narrative. -
Trump 2.0 -- Exponentially more damaging than Trump 1.0
impulse replied to Jingthing's topic in Political Soapbox
On the spectrum of things that are affecting the quality of life of American people, I'm not sure that focusing on the price of eggs is a winning strategy. So I hope the Dems keep hammering on it. -
Trump 2.0 -- Exponentially more damaging than Trump 1.0
impulse replied to Jingthing's topic in Political Soapbox
I don't disagree with the sentiment, but sometimes it's best just to let it go and focus on the tasks at hand. They'll have plenty to keep them busy as DOGE audits come streaming in. I'd hate to see those efforts distracted by a Biden trial circus. -
Trump 2.0 -- Exponentially more damaging than Trump 1.0
impulse replied to Jingthing's topic in Political Soapbox
I wouldn't be surprised, given the Hur Report was only a recommendation, and not binding on Bondi. But the only reason I'd be in favor is for the information that would come out in discovery. Watching Biden's decline the past 4 years leads me to believe he's not long for this world. Let him live it out in peace. -

But that's all the Dems and their paid media minions have.
