Mayor Pete tells dems to stop being A-holes
impulse replied to Cryingdick's topic in Political Soapbox
See? All I hear is fingernails on a blackboard. -
Trump ostracized at pope’s funeral I wonder if they all brought him a pie later when nobody was looking? For the clueless, it's a Blazing Saddles reference.

I was paying about that for my relatively small Bangkok apartment with 2 A/Cs. But that's mostly because I chose to live on the top floor of a 5 story Asoke area building (that's rare in itself). The view, access to the roof, and having no noise from upstairs neighbors was worth it. YMMV, obviously.

But if you don't win the election, none of that matters, does it? -
All Vaccines Will Kill You - The evidence is overwhelming

While I'm pleased that we are finally able to discuss the topic, I'll also be pleased when the statistics are better attributed and understood. The problem I see here (the OP) is that the comparison is the death rate in a vaccinated populace, which may be very different from the death rate if there were no vaccines. That may indicate very different best practices. In another post, someone claims that the death rate for measles is 3/800 which is the death rate of measles patients, but not the death rate of the average Joe wondering whether to get the MMR or not. That death rate is 3/350,000,000. But that's the death rate for a mostly vaccinated populace, confusing the numbers even more. Someone else claims (accurately) that the death rate for rabies is 100%. But that's not the death rate for people who have been bitten, only those few who contract rabies. And definitely not the death rate for the average Joe whose odds of even being bitten are miniscule. I'm just hoping RKK, Jr and his team make some sense of the data that is out there, but not being honestly compiled, collated and reported. Whether that's to push a narrative, sell a product, or just because there are a few hacks in science that think they're geniuses. -
Of course it isn't, common sense should tell you that, do some research and come back to the table From a power cost standpoint, you are correct. But if you have barely adequate cooling capacity, you may have to leave your AC running all the time to reach and maintain your desired temperature. I don't know anyone who installs enough cooling capacity to keep a Thai house at 20 C without running all the time. Long story, I once had an apartment in Corpus Christi where I had to leave the AC running when I was at work because if I just turned it on when I got home, the temperature didn't drop until long after my bedtime. I complained to management and they sent guys over to test the system and told me tough noogies. It's working fine. And it was sized according to the prevailing specifications for that size apartment. That was before programmable thermostats became so common. Had I been able to turn it on a few hours earlier, it may have been okay.

Someone once told me that the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Based solely on results, he has what it takes. He is in the White House after all. As he was in his first term. And the world didn't fall apart until Sleepy Joe. Hell, even Dems had a decent approval rating before Sleepy Joe. -

It has nothing to do with being gay. Mayor Pete can't be president until he's seasoned enough. He's not tough worldly enough and would get chewed up and spat out in his current iteration. He may make a good politician after he's been through the ringer more and taken some more learning lumps. That kind of education doesn't happen in Indiana. Let's see how he fares after a few seasons in the Big League. I'm cautiously optimistic about the guy. -
Travel Thailand's Aviation Sector Soars with FAA's Category 1 Safety Upgrade

TBH, if you're not living on the 3 coasts, you're going to have a layover somewhere. Whether that's in the US or Korea, or... or... doesn't really matter to me. Except that most major international airports are nicer places to lay over than the US airports. Unless they've been upgraded since I last flew through them. Some of them were an embarrassment. (I say 3 coasts because I recall a non-stop to Houston from years past.) I'm gonna risk some wrath here and conjecture that this may all be related to trade negotiations, and not just air stuff. -

Maybe. But it doesn't bring on fits of screeching and drooling like Trump. -
You keep getting caught up in the weeds. The lie is that Biden took on Big Pharma and made them lower prices. The truth is that they negotiated prices on 10 (count 'em 10, of the thousands of drugs), and those lower prices kick in starting in 2026. Any lower prices won’t take effect for three years, and the path forward could be further complicated by litigation from drugmakers and heavy criticism from Republicans. 10 drugs targeted for Medicare price negotiations as Biden pitches cost reductions | AP News Edit: BTW, here's the wingnut conspiracy guy in me... I'd bet that those 10 drugs were about to come off patent and drop in price anyway. I'm taking a drug (Omeprazole) that costs me about 5 baht that used to cost several dollars when it was still on patent as Prilosec.

That's a huge lie. Exactly what medicines went down under Biden? Where's the list? Out of the thousands of medicines in the pharmacies, he negotiated lower prices on 10 of them, to kick in a few years from now. As for insulin, Trump had already gotten that price down with an EO. Biden rescinded that EO, then bragged about getting the price down to the same level.

They do now. Equal access and equal treatment. But the only guaranty of equal results is equal effort and equal ability. And that's not how the world has ever worked. There have always been slackers and people with lower IQs. The only way you can give them equal results is to put every student on the lowest plane.

Breaking :Act Blue to be investigated for alleged foreign funding .
impulse replied to riclag's topic in Political Soapbox
For me, the icing on the cake will be if they show a ton of USAID money being laundered back to the Dems by ActBlue. And Ukraine aid. And... And... There's a new sheriff in town and his sidekicks have mad database and auditing skills. -

I'd bet that most of the lefties here never even heard of ActBlue until this came out. I've been following their donation muling since long before the election, while noting a not-so-suspicious lack of curiosity on the part of the MSM. Just about every right wing outlet has been following it. Crickets from the MSM. I don't have access to YouTube from here, but you should watch the OMG videos where they ask "donors" if they really did donate 1000 times, totaling tens of thousands of dollars. The answer is usually something along the lines of "well, I did donate $15 once", while FOIA'ed documents from ActBlue show a thousand separate donations from a single address. Often an address with no building. Someone's going to jail here. -
Xi Jinping is not satisfied with winning the trade war

Educated Americans should know perfectly that over extending your debt leads to economic trouble The United States has the largest external debt in the world (Wikipedia). The US has been living beyond its means for many years. No doubt put in that position by "uneducated" politicians. That's what I said, too. You're quoting someone else. That's the way the quote feature works sometimes when there are nested quotes. In fact, my reply to that quote was: You claim that, yet here we are.
