  1. The Russkies are in good company. Amazon's Alexa is doing the same... When asked “why should I vote for Donald Trump,” Alexa was routinely replying, “I cannot provide responses that endorse any political party or its leader.” However, when people asked the gizmo why they should vote for his opponent, Alexa spewed a variety of enthusiastic Harris endorsements. https://www.foxbusiness.com/video/6361450470112
  2. Several times in my life, I have had male roommates. None gay. Neither am I . Usually, a change in life situation, like an unexpected divorce, a job loss, or healthcare needs. I had plenty of spare rooms, and none of the situations went sideways. Unlike some female live-ins that turned into disasters. When my father went into the old fart's home, he thought his life was over. Two weeks later, he asked my sister to bring him some after shave. They all played poker, had coffee every morning, watched the games on the big screen and generally enjoyed life. They all had their own rooms and bathroom. But they lived in the community and just slept in their rooms.
  3. My bypass surgery at the most expensive hospital in Bangkok cost less than the insurance deductible would have been in the USA. And the quality of care was as good as I've ever seen in a US hospital. IMO, Thailand has a huge potential market in healthcare and another great opportunity in elder care. If they do it right. I'm sure there's US laws against it, but US insurance companies (and Medicare) should pay for their customers to seek treatment in Thailand. They'd save a bundle.
  4. One more case in favor of renting, so you can move if you end up with bad neighbors. Nobody won this one.
  5. Would that indicate that the scooter was damaged in the accident? Otherwise there's some interim steps between seeing the guy's scooter parked up, and knowing he's the victim. He could just be a spectator, or helping out, or wandering around. But if the scooter was squashed... Edit: Add that to the loud crash reported by the witness, which probably wouldn't have been loud if the train had just hit a pedestrian.
  6. There was a safety poster on each of our offshore South Thailand oil platforms showing a body that had bled out as a result of squatting on a sit-down toilet. The bowl broke, and the lacerations bled out. It was a haunting picture. Not pixelated, to have the maximum impact. Something you just can't un-see. We still found occasional oily safety bootprints on the bowls.
  7. You've got a good 'un then. My remark wasn't meant to be specific to yours. Just that, male or female, you never know what people will be like in a pinch, until the pinch. Like poor health (and the bills that come with that), or running out of money, or... or... Regardless of what they promise when it's all rosy.
  8. Up here in the Middle Kingdom, there are scads of interesting tiny 2 door city EV's which meet 90% of the driving needs of a city dweller. And their footprint is so tiny, you can fit 5 of them in the spots that 3 typical cars would take up. Several of my neighbors drive them and say they're great for what they promise. The first models were "influenced" by Smart Cars, but they have branched out with several home brewed models that are so ugly they're cute. I doubt they'd pass collision testing, but they're not meant for high speed roads. Just getting around town. For that, they're perfect. At the car shows in China, the advertised price is as low as 35,000 RMB, around $5,000 USD. I'm not sure what adders there are for taxes, registration, etc. Since I don't have a Chinese DL, nor a visa that would qualify me to get one, I'm curious more than interested. If I needed a car to get around BKK, they'd be perfect. But when I lived and worked there, the only time I fired up the pickup was to leave town for long weekends. Otherwise, it was BTS, MRT, motosais and a very rare taxi trip.
  9. It will be interesting when they reveal which engine component failed, and whether it was a design flaw, a supply chain (counterfeit parts?) problem, or some other issue.
  10. With all due respect, what else could she say? She's outta there when things go sideways, so you'd better start looking now?
  11. Being a zillionaire is great, too. But not all of us have the dosh, nor a wife that's worth the trade-off. I, too would rather be in a great marriage. But I'd rather be single than still married to my ex. She wasn't a bad woman. Just not on the same page and consequently, never satisfied with life. Turns out, 35 years after the divorce, she's still not married. So it's not me that caused her unhappiness. I was just there.
  12. If that's what you believe, you don't have a clue. It was more than just PA. And 126 congressmen agreed in a sworn statement, along with 18 states. And I would add that the SCOTUS specifically stated they didn't judge the merits or the facts of the case. Just the standing.
  13. As I recall, his private garden was actually public land.
  14. How about sworn statements from 18 states and 126 congressmen? Refer to the Texas lawsuit, and the amicus briefs that ensued.
  15. Better yet. Get a male room mate to share expenses and chores, or live in a building with a good community of like minded old farts. Bros before hoes!
  16. Can you imagine the horror scenario if Thailand started building NL style dikes to keep sea water out? Those same dikes would keep monsoon water in.
  17. You can afford certain luxuries when your GDP per capita is 10x higher.
  18. I'm also curious about distributed mode speakers, which use the walls or other flat panels instead of actual cone drivers and enclosures. I meant to experiment while I was in Bangkok, but had no confidence that they'd work on concrete walls.
  19. Much the same as every MSM, Hillary, and the Dems believed after taking the L in 2016. There were dozens of MSM articles about the vulnerability of the machines after 2016 and even more after 2018 midterms. Google them. Not to mention montages of Dems claiming Trump and the Russkies cheated. Crickets, though, after 2020. Why is that?
  20. Good info. I'll have to try that next time my hotel WiFi goes wonky. I have an AIS annual plan, but I'm not sure whether it's unlimited data. I'm only in Thailand for a few days a month, so I may not have popped for unlimited (if that was an option). And my brain leaks when I sleep. I just visit AIS every few months to see if I need to give them more money.
  21. I wonder if the polling companies use the same criteria for selecting their participants that this "non-partisan" get-out-the-vote company uses to select who sees their ads on Faceplant? The Voter Participation Center (VPC), which describes itself as a “non-partisan organization,” posted advertisements on Facebook encouraging voter turnout in swing states, but instructed Facebook to exclude showing advertisements to people interested in things associated with Republican voters, such as NASCAR, military novelist Tom Clancy, the PGA Tour and Duck Dynasty, according to the ad data. Not hard to imagine Harris running away with the polls if they exclude NASCAR, Tom Clancy, and golf fans from their polling. Pretty insidious how they do that, eh? https://dailycaller.com/2024/09/02/this-non-partisan-voter-registration-group-will-help-you-vote-unless-youre-conservative/
  22. Going back a few threads, I was under the impression he planned to return the A55. Quick question, do Thai service providers allow hot spotting? Some ISP's in the USA don't, at least under normal plans.
  23. I freely admit I have become an anti-connoisseur after a few years of visiting factories in China who use the same parts and the same assembly line to make (for example) a JBL product in the morning and then an off brand in the afternoon, changing only the paint and the box. Add that to all the YouTubes where they review products and point out 3 or 4 different brands selling the exact same product at very different price points... Gotta love the interwebs. For woofers, I've only ever lost a set to the foam surround degrading over time. On a $100 woofer, meh. On a $500 woofer, ouch. Not to mention, I speak to the guys in the shops at Ban Mo and they have great recommendations to which brands hold up and which brands to avoid. As long as I don't tip them that I'm looking for XYZ. Because they're sales guys and they'll sell me what I'm willing to buy. That said, I haven't bought a woofer in years and years. Mostly, I buy home grade (spelled c-h-e-a-p) test equipment, like multi-meters and power supplies, for which BanMo is amazing. Let us know what you decide and how you make out. If I settle in one place in Thailand, I'd like to get a nice sound system. And I agree with you above. I don't need to play at high volumes to appreciate a huge displacement woofer.
  24. Hey, I'm open to the possibility that both sides cheat and the reason Trump's pissed off is because he didn't get his money's worth. And Hillary, too. But don't try to tell me there's no cheating going on. Edit: I should correct that. It's not both sides. It's all sides. Because I can think of a dozen countries, half a dozen alphabet agencies, and quite a few corporations that may be programming their own version of the Ukrainian National Anthem into the sauce. Over the interweb, which we were told is impossible.
  25. If we lose a few more posters (no names...), and the 2024 election passes by, AN could be in a world of hurt. That's about 3/4 of the posts.
