  1. They're going to have to hold a gun to my head if they want me to take a booster. I still haven't recovered from my 2nd Pfizer about 4 years ago. Probably never will. I'd have to be an idiot to take another.
  2. I didn't say it was. But it's a compromise. You get safer conditions, but at higher prices. Part of the reason for higher prices are functional smoke detectors and higher balconies. They cost money.
  3. Probably because they also sell the food to the franchisees. And tightly control the operations as a condition of becoming a franchise.
  4. But you can get drunk back in nanny land and you won't fall over a balcony. They're designed to be idiot proof. And if you do fall over one, you can sue the snot out of the hotel.
  5. And it's refreshing that one of the parties allows dissent in the ranks. Had a Dem done the same to Biden, there would be a mass effort to get him/her out.
  6. You can't afford to pay entry level unskilled, untrained employees a "living wage" and still make money. Today, a "living wage" is $50K and up. Way up if you're in California. That's always been a business conundrum. When we first hire you, we aren't allowed to pay you what you're worth because of minimum wage laws. We lose money on you until you're trained and seasoned. If you're one of the ones that never catch on, you're a net loss. And then we get sued if we fire you. That's why there were always starter jobs like Mickey D's. (Edit: And apprentice programs and internships) And even if you get real good at flipping burgers, they still can't afford $50-100K.
  7. What's he going to say? We screwed the pooch here. Who would have figured that people don't want to pay so much money for fast food? Between Bidenflation and some states' push for high minimum wages, they priced themselves out. I remember the olden days when flipping burgers at McDonalds wasn't a career choice. It was something you did as a stopgap between real jobs. Or to work your way through high school or college. Now, it's what you do when you have a useless degree and a crushing student loan. And eating at McDonalds was a cheap way to fill up in a rush.
  8. That's strange. I fall in lust at least a few times a day on the BTS and MRT. I'm a nice eyes, IBTs, and no cankles kind of guy, though.
  9. And if the farang showed up broke and in need of handouts.
  10. After dark, nobody can see you pooping in the bushes.
  11. Then why'd you mention Anti-Trump in the OP? Twice.
  12. See that guy on the OP photo? He's not technically counted in manufacturing. He's in transportation and warehousing. They're doing great, in spite of (or because of?) the tariffs. See those 11K construction jobs? They're building factories, too. Private education... Shouldn't that be dropping like a rock with all the student visa cancellations? What? The sky's not falling?
  13. Speedos. Dead giveaway in most of the world. Oz? Not so sure. I guess they call them budgie smugglers. Tip of the hat to @Spilornis
  14. I wonder if the OP found one of the "fake" TDAC websites? Which aren't fake as much as 3rd party websites offering the service for a fee. Legality is in a grey area and being discussed on other threads. Not hard to believe that some of them may not be up to scratch.
  15. Kudos to them. It's a step in the right direction. Hopefully, they'll take some learning lumps and get better. Have they done anything about the lack of trash bins? It's been awhile since I visited Patts, but I recall carrying my empty water bottle for 15-20 minutes before I came across one.
  16. Titanium plate stands at about $10 USD per kg today. (FOB China) That's 340 baht per kg. What does an implant weigh?
  17. What would have happened had she they firebombed a Ford dealership? And don't forget the other case in the OP where a lefty lunatic did over $20K of damage to TESLAs, and the judge decided not to sentence him to any time at all. He's just got to pay for the damages. That's like robbing a bank and all you have to do is return the money. Had he done $20K worth of damage to a bunch of BMW's, he'd be in the klink. But TESLAs? Nope. That wouldn't be in the community's interest to lock him up. I'd propose that it is in the community's interest to send a message that this won't be tolerated. But he's a lefty and Orange Man Bad, so...
  18. That's because the OP refers to woke. I don't. I refer to a dual standard of justice where protestors for the liberal causes are getting much better treatment than those who protest for conservative causes. It has little to do with race.
  19. What did I post that disagrees? Black defendants are statistically more likely to have an extensive rap sheet, so they are more likely to be denied bail. One can argue about the societal unfairness that gave them the longer rap sheets. But the fact is that they do. And, as others have posted, they're less likely to have a good job and a stable home/family situation to be released to. And don't forget that bail costs money in most places. So a good job, decent credit and cash in the bank makes a difference.
  20. Don't forget employment. Exceeding expectations. Again. Except Federal Employees. Sad for them. What does it mean when we have more taxpayers and fewer tax sponges?
  21. I'm certainly not disagreeing with you, but damn. 40,000 baht for a few grams of "prosthetic materials"? More like 350 baht for the materials and 39,650 baht for labor, overhead and profit. Heavy on the profit. For the lab, I mean. Not the local dentist. I wonder if it's like glasses in Thailand, that cost me 5x what Zenni charges online? Even more than I paid back in the USA. Rant over. I could use some dental work, mostly cosmetic. But not at those prices.
  22. I wonder how much of this is related to the unrest in the South and how much is just the random violence that happens everywhere? When I worked in Songkhla, I talked to a lot of the locals about the situation, and it seems a lot more complicated than I realized. Largely related to land grabs. I'll leave my statement at that. It's complicated.
  23. Yup. "The Beach" and "Lost in Thailand" both changed the landscape. And not toward the scenic.
  24. I've stayed at several hotels in LOS where the hotel has built onto the existing balcony rails so they're not so dangerous. Kudos to them. I'd hope that will become a licensing safety requirement. It's probably not an issue unless (like me) the tourists come from the nanny states where we expect to be protected by building codes. Early on my stay at my BKK apartment, I leaned over the rail to look at some birds fighting on the balcony below mine. I suddenly realized that my center of gravity was way out over the rail. Had my feet slipped, I was going over. It was an awakening for this nanny state escapee.
