Phuket Prepares for Alcohol-Free Songkran Festivities on April 13
AhFarangJa replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
So, ban alcohol, but support local businesses................ -
Forgive me if I am mistaken, but was there not an outcry several months ago when a prominent doctor was killed on a crossing. They were howling from the roof of Government house saying we will make all crossings clearer, safer, and improve education of drivers..........quick as a flash........bugger all is done......until the next fatality.......and the next.......ad infinitum.

Bangkok Building Collapse Sets Unwanted World Records
AhFarangJa replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
So true. Slightly off topic, but I have just purchased two new smoke detectors for the house, 520 Baht the pair, 10 year lifespan. The old ones were past their 10 year cycle. When they were delivered the Wife asked why change them, we never used the old ones.......they just sat there on the wall doing nothing.........I went out for a walk, figured it was the safest option. However, it is the lack of safety awareness that still confounds me after 30 years. -

...If by that sentence you mean do I think for myself, have the ability to analyse different situations, and scenarios, go with my own thinking, and not be part of the flock mentality, then I thank you very much. -

Thailand's Digital Card Chaos: Say Goodbye to TM6, Hello to Confusion!
AhFarangJa replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I guess you will be ecstatic when digital id, CDBC, comes in then. write something the government does not like, credit frozen, travel outside your 15 minute city too often, credit frozen, post something they do not like, prison term. Be very careful what you wish for with digital id, it is the great control apparatus for the globalists. One thing you will like though is the fact that airports will not be busy as people will not be allowed to travel. Yes, I know......put my foil cap back on.- 301 replies

Thai Restaurant Industry Faces Crisis as Purchases Plummet by 40%
AhFarangJa replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Thank Cameron, I was asking a question, which you have answered. When I was in UK...last century......Fast food always outpriced the local produce, and was a treat, though not necessarily a healthy one. -

Uncertainty Over Thailand's Proposed 400 Baht Minimum Wage Hike
AhFarangJa replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I am constantly amazed at stores like Thaiwatsadu. Just walk in the entrance there are at least 6 staff before you grab a trolley..... -
They tried that on me once back in the 90's.........outside Nana Hotel......I stood still, listened to him waffle, though I can speak Thai, I pretended not to. Wen He finished and was demanding 2,000 Baht, I leant into him and said,"I do not F**king smoke you pri*k.......and walked off leaving Him just a little peed off.

Expert Calls for Urgent Review of Thailand's Alcohol Policies
AhFarangJa replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I remember in the UK, when they wanted to open the pub all day. The bleeding heart brigade said it would lead to mobs of drunks roaming the streets all day. When, as happened, there were less cases. With all day opening people had a more relaxed view towards a drink, no more rushing to the bar at 1.45, ordering three pints and then finishing them before 2.30. I think the same would be true here, people would take their time, probably drink less, because it was there to be had any time. Human nature. Also a win/win for the bars & restaurants, more selling time, more steady income, more employment. -
Thaksin’s Request to Leave Thailand for Indonesia Blocked by Court
AhFarangJa replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Exactly so. I was led to understand that by court order He is not allowed to be involved in anything to do with politics. By requesting permission to attend a political meeting abroad is, to my mind, shoving a finger up to the judiciary. -
I am looking at this option after an earlier post mentioned it, however, there are a considerable number of terrible reviews about it on the net.

Many thanks, looks exactly what I need. Will give it a go....

Lots of helpful info, thanks to members for taking the time to post, However, they mostly seem to be concentrating on business use with monthly subscriptions. I use Skype with a prepaid 10 pounds sterling, with automatic top up when it went to 1 pound. I only use it to call my UK bank, or the government pension people, so a monthly fee would be a waste of money. Any tips for a system that is only used about eight times a year?........cue the jokes now.........

British Man Arrested in Thailand After 25-Year Visa Overstay

Must be false news, about three or four years ago Big Joke said in His whirlwind blitz that it had been a success, and there were no more overstayers in Kingdom.
