Looking at the old picture I personally think it is a blessing it burnt down It detracts a lot from the local scenery, basically, an eyesore. I wonder how many brown envelopes were passed around to gain planning permission. Also, I would agree with many posters on here....insurance scam.

Sounds like typical response you often get here for mistakes, errors, etc. "not me, no my fault, I did not do it." loss of face syndrome. Why would you use them again if you already lost money to them?.....unless there is no alternative I suppose.

Yes it is compulsory for third party insurance, called por ror bor, it is a legal requirement for any vehicle or motorbike using the roads. Normally purchased when renewing your road tax, if you do not have it then you cannot tax your vehicle. However, we all know there are a lot of bikes & cars not taxed here. One question I can never get answered though, is if someone does not have a licence, and is involved in an accident that is not their fault, will the insurance pay out?

Agree, but I may please add one proviso. Withdraw the funds from one account, and deposit in another, otherwise they will charge you a hefty sum sometimes for a transfer. I appreciate that it may be the same bank, but all banks here operate on a fiefdom system, much like immigration.

Agreed Ralf, I can only assume they fall into the lack of enforcement trap, the same as I see so many tourists riding without helmets, with flip flops, with sleeveless shirts, or no shirts. They seem to lose to reasoning of consequences, or they leave that thought at the airport on arrival.

Being a tourist He did not know that driving the wrong way while drunk is a reserved occupation for locals only. He lacked the neccesary skills to get away with it.

Slightly off topic, but has anyone else noticed that the Thai news are not saying Thaksin is a de facto prime minister any more, they have changed His title to Father of the prime minister.......I wonder why......

I believe that the Royal pardon reduced His sentence from 8 years to 1. The main complaint is that He did not serve 1 day of that 1 year sentence.

No mention of the police charging Him with riding with 3 on a bike then..........sarcasm alert on.....

I am in no way condoning the actions of this plonker, however................... Should they not be doing this to the thousands, upon thousands of Thai drivers who commit the same offence day in & day out. They would rake in millions of Baht a day.
