HSBC banking
Pumpuynarak replied to OneeyedJohn's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Thanks for your post. Interesting to say the least but i live in fear of advising HSBC by way of online banking that my address is in Thailand to then be told that the account has to be closed as i'm not a UK resident. You mention ''HSBC internet banking and phone app work fine here in Thailand'' but i understand you can't have both and the phone app is difficult to set up, i'm not very good with anything com techy so always avoid phone apps because of the setup and small phone screen. I also understand that once you commence the phone app setup there's no going back to online setup, its cancelled even if you don't succeed in setting up the phone app, now thats a real problem. -

Has anyone any update info on HSBC's attitude towards UK account holders living in Thailand ? If i were to advise them of a change of address from the UK to Thailand would they allow that or close my account. Also if they permit living in Thailand as opposed to being a UK resident would they send replacement cards/secure key to my address in Thailand. TIA -
I've just realised how can it be a 1 year plan with 18 months free if they are charging you $3.30/month and billing you for the entire 30 months at commencement = $99.00 or have i missed something ?

Here's the reply i received from them when i queried it....... NordVPN (NordVPN) Apr 8, 2023, 03:47 GMT+3 Hello, Thank you for reaching out to us. Over the past few years, NordVPN grew a lot: we implemented the super-fast NordLynx tunneling solution, upgraded to diskless servers, and introduced 10Gbps servers as well as server colocation (more info in our blog: https://nordvpn.com/blog/nordvpn-colocated-servers/). Our costs grew with these upgrades, and that led to the price change. We hope to continue innovating and bringing a great experience to our users at a fair price. That being said, after the end of your initial plan, your subscription will be automatically renewed, and you will be charged the then-current price of the service. If any changes will be implemented to your current plan, we will inform you via email in advance. For more information, read our Terms of Services. You can also see the renewal pricing on our other products, including NordVPN here: https://my.nordaccount.com/legal/pricing/ If the renewal pricing does not meet your liking, you are able to manually choose the subscription plan according to your preference by purchasing a subscription from our official website at nordvpn.com/pricing/ Let us know if you have any additional questions. Best Regards,

I've recently received my Nord VPN renewal billing and i believe its increased by a substantial amount. I've gone from my 2 year plan to a 1 year plan not by my choice but by them no longer offering me a 1 year plan. My plan is the standard Nord VPN. Now from memory 2 years ago i paid something like the same cost that they are now proposing i pay for their 1 year plan. Here's the email they sent me..... Your NordVPN subscription will be renewed You will be billed by an automatic payment in 30 days unless you cancel before the payment is charged. Otherwise, no action is required. Note: you will be billed the current standard price of £83.88 plus £5.87 additional tax* (£89.75 in total) for the 1-year plan of NordVPN. Your current subscription expires on April 29th, 2023. * Sales tax, VAT, GST/PST, or other mandatory tax applicable in your country of purchase Anyone else have a similar experience ?

New requirement or not?
Pumpuynarak replied to Confuscious's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Try telling that to Korat IO, i left Thailand to visit the UK for a holiday and on my return my retirement extension was due for renewal so off i went to the IO duly armed with all their requirements only to be told that a new TM30 was required. I explained that i did'nt think this was a requirement under the rules but they insisted. Go figure................. -

"Normal" shocking in Thailand
Pumpuynarak replied to SunshineHarvey7's topic in The Electrical Forum
Yesterday i went to have a shower and i got a tingle from the tap when turning it on, its an electric water heater. I thought i'd go and have a shower in our other bathroom but low and behold that was exactly the same. Is this dangerous to use ? should i just wear flipflops as has been said in this topic ? Is there anything that can and should be done to rectify this problem ? I'm no electrician and my knowledge is zero. I would appreciate any help guys, TIA. -
Double Charging I know it exists but it is still very annoying.
Pumpuynarak replied to Nip's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
BINGO, and i live here to with my Thai wifey and have done for 16 years and contribute up to 1.5M Baht per year living costs into the Thai economy, i think i'm contributing enough to warrant not having to pay this tourist tax. Now to be fair a lot of these attractions will allow you to pay the Thai price if you furnish them with your Thai DL/Pink ID card and your wifey/partner explains the situation to them, those that won't can shove it where the sun does'nt shine, i've basically done all the tourist attractions i wanted to when i was a tourist and paid accordingly, now i'm an expat supporting my Thai wifey and her moma and living here my attitude is very different. Just sayin like lol -
Having recently had a procedure carried out at a local private hospital in Korat where i settled the bill as i have no insurance (not possible due to pre-existing conditions) i thought it would be sensible to arrange insurance for my Thai wifey whilst she is still young and healthy. Now i know she is covered by the Thai scheme whereby she would have to attend the local government hospital for treatment but i would like to arrange insurance where she could attend a private hospital. Can anyone recco a good health insurer who provides comprehensive cover at a reasonable cost and above all else actually pays claims out in a timely manner ? I believe Thai insurers are to be avoided if possible. Thanks for any help guys.
