  1. Can anyone point me to a thread about the protest at democracy monument today? It seems suspicious that the Thaivisa news team didn't pick up on the fact that democracy monument is currently occupied by pro-democracy protesters. I couldn't find anything in Thailand or Bangkok news forums?

do I need to take any exams?

No, if you hold a valid driver's license from the US you do not need to take any written or driving exams. You WILL have to watch a safety video and do a colour (say the correct colour), reaction (press down accelerator and then brake), peripheral vision (say the colour), and distance perception (stop one dowel next to another one)  tests. Every time you extend your license you will watch the video and do the 4 tests (This applies to Thai and foreign nationals alike).

Only Thai ones? If you mean that, it's racist.

No, it's not: He's making a hyperbolic remark about a sub-group of Thai truck drivers (Unless "Thai Truck Driver" is a new race that I wasn't aware of) . It's like saying most Swedish farmers have blonde hair and love smelly fish. Now if he said "All Thais are <deleted> at driving and I hate all Thai people", that might lean towards being racist (More xenophobic than racist since Thai isn't actually a race)

Malaysia closed theirs and then Thailand closed theirs later...

And Thailand also denied entry to its nationals that were trying to enter from Malaysia whilst the Thai side remained open (Which is against the constitution). Thailand tried to stop its citizens through requiring fit-to-fly certificates which made boarding planes hard, but once at a border ALL Thais are constitutionally allowed in.

The world's most successful country in fighting the coronavirus, Germany, is saying the following:

Just curious as to what parameters led you to this assertion? I know they're doing well, but they don't have the lowest death rates and they've got  a very high per capita infection rate.

    From the OP...

Workers covered by the Social Security Fund are not eligible as they can get unemployment benefits from the fund.

I missed that part, but it is still not entirely clear. You only get unemployment benefits if you were working full time and lost your job. My wife, for example, pays into the fund but is not employed by a company (she's a freelancer).

Why the hell did they appoint precisely THIS man (?) as health minister?

Because his party campaigned on decriminalising weed and also not supporting Prayuth. When they effed over their supporters by siding with Prayuth, he was given the health minister role so that he could "deliver" on his weed promises and keep his constituents happy(ish).

And since we compare... why nobody is talking about :

    -South Korea

    -Taiwan

    -Singapore

If you're going to compare South Korea, then you should mention the extreme testing and contact tracing going on there. The same levels as they're doing in China, which is why after a peak, there is a rapid decline in new cases. Many European countries are not testing extensively, whereas a friend of mine has just returned to a virus free area of China (and yes, I know, the Chinese government lies about everything which is why they put their economy on hold over nothing) and they tested every single returning passenger (Chinese and foreign passengers and still placed everyone under 14 day quarantine) These measures are not in place anywhere in Europe at them moment.

what a sarcastic cynical and UNFAIR response to all the Thai ppl and taxidrivers who INDEED did bring lost wallets and money of tourists to the nearest police station. i was lucky enough to have unknown Thai ppl taken care of lost items on several occasions until i arrived back.

I am sure in yr own country this seldom happens, honest ppl bringing a lost wallet to the police, but in Thailand yes its not exceptional.

I don't think anybody thinks Thai people don't return money/lost items. I think Aussie999 was alluding to the fact that here, very often, bad news about Thai criminals cheating tourists is followed by stories of cabbies returning 100,000s of baht to forgetful tourists.

And no, that hardly every happens in my home country. Actually, I don't think I've ever read a story about a taxi driver returning money, because it's not considered newsworthy back home.
