  1. A viscious assualt that clearly intended to inflict severe damage. Lucky the officials intervened. Sports competitors representing their country are not entitled to diplomatic immunity. The Canadian police should arrest and charge this guy if they can, as its doubtful the victim will press charges. Maybe under a public affray charge or something. If the Thais have any sense (first time for everything) they will send him home very quickly.

    What a complete disgrace.

But, the Aussie Rugby captain who stamped on the Welsh guy's head managed to get cleared, twice, despite blatant video evidence, so who knows these days. Probably all be dismissed as high spirits or something.

  2. There is no such thing as a "Thai" will or a "UK" will. Draw up a will and make sure it conforms to the form of wills in both the countries. Have lawyers in both countries review it to make sure. Bill

Nonsense. The sensible thing you say is talk to lawyers in both countries. Go and speak with a reputable Thia lawyer, preferably one who has also studied in the UK and speaks excellent English. I and a friend did. The advice - use UK lawyers for the UK assets, and Thai lawyers for the Thai will.

Draw it up yourself - yeah right. You understand the nuances of both legal and tax systems do you?

  3. Gosh this is all so exciting .... extradition ... manhunt

    Treasure hunt .... Woohoo

I really hope they have some good charges - the fraud charge which was unfortunalty actually mentioned in the paper - seemed less than earthshaking - He claims to talk to the Diety Indra - well could you charge The pope for claiming he talks to god??

    Right,

But its been a fun ride has it not. biggrin.png

How do you know he doesn't talk to Indra? Or that the pope is not in regular conversations with the Almighty?

Remember, the greatest trick the devil has is to make you believe he doesn't exist wink.png

ps - have you noticted how the equality groups want to refer to God as a female but not the devil?

In reality I guess they will charge him with fraud and misappropriation of funds rather than anything with a religious overtone. Otherwise it will be getting like Salem.

  4. I don't think D***i 'does' extradition treaties. Maybe I'm wrong.

Sent from my GT-S7500 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Wouldn't have thought so - it's part of the UAE. Foreign policy and treaties would be handled by the UAE, not a single Emirate.

The errant monk could go to any number of countries that don't have an extradition treaty with Thailand. Or he could go to the EU and claim "human rights violations" - everyone else does!

If all else fails he could go to Australia and escape at the airport when the G4S guards go sleep.

It does seem that you are always welcome if you have mega amounts of money in some countries.

  5. The people who dream these things up live in a world of their own.

Prostitution is illegal yet it is the realms biggest industry...'biggest employer'

Gambling is illegal but it's openly engaged in...

Fornicating with the neighbours wife (or daughter) is frowned upon (according to their religion) but they are all at it including senior monks.

Drugs are likewise illegal 'refer to the line above.

It has long been and will continue to be a joke in the eyes of the world bah.gif

And that can apply to many other countries too.

  6. I am starting to get the impression that soon there may be a national holiday declared, with prayers at all wats, fireworks displays in major cities (no, not arson), parades by the miltary and processions of boats on the Chao Phraya river lead by

    Chief Waterman Plodprasop himself.

All in the name of The Great Leader, Brother Number One, He Who Must Be Obeyed. Dr.Thaksin Shinawatra.

    attachicon.gifThaksin_Shinawatra_2.jpg

Come on home Thaksin let the games begin.

Is your impression motivated by a secret desire to bestow such a celebration on the former PM?

Please note that as wonderful a suggestion as it may be, the former PM is a humble man, a man of the people. He would never agree to such a national holiday. Although, I could see his welcoming prayers at the wat for the benefit of the nation such is his love of Thailand.

    Good one GK

Who say's you don't have a sense of humor.

I hope you're right Dolly. If his comment is serious then he really is beyond help (and hope). !!

Nah, must be joke,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, no could think that......................... could they ?? blink.png

  7. Good question. The answer really depends on which immigration and which officer. Seriously, the rules on anthing seem to be what the officer decides they are on the day you are there.

I always err on the side of caution now.

Yesterday I deposited a large amount of money in my bank account. The clerk made an error and debited the amount rather than crediting, spotted the error and credited to amounnt twice to correct it. My visa extension is not required for several months, but if it had been immiminent, can you imagine trying to explain to Immigration why you had gone below the limit on your balance, albeit for less than 2 mins. Paranoia - doesn't mean they're not after us !

  9. They charged $1000 baht each and I had 2 of them. Good sized man who were discreet and stood at the right places as had the right demeanor would hire them again when needed

I wish my dachshunds were here too their barks would have been enough to scare the roman army off HD or buy a Doberman they work well too :-)

Were these bodyguards or providing security for an event or something? There is a difference. Night club security, posh event security or personal security require different techniques. I knew a lot of people in night club, pub and event security in the UK ( "bouncers"). Very few of these would really know how to be a bodyguard.

Many years ago I remember an American guy in the business class lounge at Don Meuang. He was late 50's with young Thai wife. He had a "bodyguard" who he insisted accompanied him everywhere - bar, toilet, magazines shop. The "bodyguard" was a uniformed RTP sargeant. It actually seemed quite bizzare. The American was knocking the booze back and getting loud which drew more atthention to him. All very odd.

  10. What do you need bodyguards for?

I thought it was only gangsters and politicians who used them.

    Something's fishy here.

Man-up Lawrence, stand on your own feet. You weren't born without cojones, were you?

    And it's your business how?

Because the OP chooses to post on a open forum maybe?

  11. Little off topic, but somewhat related.

I have had the pleasure of meeting local developer(a Thai) pretty successful who runs a very "interesting" development company.

He buys small lot of land next to someone else's empty lot.

He build a condo or hotel across both lots but mainly across neighbors.

When neighbor sees his/her land has been stolen, they file law suits.

Developer comes to court and agrees that it is illegal and happy for the neighbor, owner of that land to demolish it BUT can not damage the building on developers land.

Naturally it is not possible, so the owner of the land is left with 2 choices.

    1. Either sell the land to developer at any price developer wishes to pay(usually half the value)

    2. Demolish the building on his land at his own expense and pay for any damages to the developers building in his land

Almost all, chose to sell the land for dirt cheap.

I guess the point of the story is, the owner of the hotel in OP, knows his ways around the laws and rules and is happy to pay a small fine, than pay big money for city hall permits

What a clever dick he is. Until one day, he'll do it to the wrong person. Then he'll face real "Thai" justice.

Piss the bureaucrats off here, and you'll pay eventually, one way or another.

  12. Round and round the garden.........they've been warned off again, it's a simple as that.

You don't mess with the real power in this country.

Remember, you read it here first. theblether has it right.

"You don't mess with the real power in this country"!!!!!

    Thaksin ought to know that.

Go on then, spoil us ............... and the real power is .................. ???????????

  13. Now there is no denials of who calls the shots. Open meetings with cabinet ministers and police. Sister moved to DM to win the military over.

How long before the handpicked cabinet issue the decree and the convicted criminal and fugutive returns home, his conviction quashed, all outstanding charges quashed, and formally becomes an unelected PM?

He is right of course - the military holds the key. If they are "neutral" or "with him" then there is nothing to stop this going ahead,

Forget the rules of law, ethics, morals - all will be swept away.

  14. All of this because of the scheming of one person. Someone whose strategies were designed for no other reason than self benefit. The likely results, massive financial loss, the country's enviable reputation for premium rice in tatters, loss of postion as the world's number 1 rice exporter, government credibility again threatend due to inept management and lies, an increase in corruption and now very real threats to health. The government response so far has been denial or threat of legal action against anyone who speaks out.

Lesser scandals than this have bought down many governments in other countries; or least involved the sacking of senior politicians. Here - its do as your told or else, we're in charge mentality. This may work domestically but will be laughed off internationally. The root problem always was you can't manipulate and control international markets like you can a domestic one when you have a monopoly and make the rules up as you go along. Just think what will happen if they ever get their hands on 2.2 trillion.

Thailand is run like a family business. Those in senior positions are appointed through nepotism. cronyism, and family connections, not through ability, knowledge or experience. The results are self evident.

  16. family of the senior girl in the picture so proud of her.....me daughter go to university and do this...

Well done that man. Perhaps you could sit down with your daughter at some stage in practice on your English.

Perhaps you could read the forum rules. The part about not correcting the English of non native Engish speaker might be interesting.

"in practice on your English". Well, you obviously practice what you preach.whistling.gif
