  1. Is this the same Yingluck that makes speeches about democracy to the world? The same Yingluck who vows to fight and eradicate corruption?

Obviously free speech is not part of her view of democracy.

Same old PTP - do as we say or else! Believe what we say, or else! No criticism or hint of negative comments are allowed.

Sadly, they know many Thais are genuinely scared to challenge what they perceive as "authority" and many more are are just apathetic.

That's how most dictator's started. Get the ones on side who matter, controlling the rest is easy.

  2. Don't be so negative about the PM!, She's doing a good job and the people love her.

Maybe some enterprising individual should mass produce red plastic bracelets with "I love the PM" engraved.

Now that would be a money earner!

    CCC

Doing a good job? Pray enlighten us to how you define and measure "doing a good job" and reach this conclusion.

  3. '...state agencies were not given the chance to defend the project, except during an emergency hearing."

The opposition were not given the chance to criticise the project, because it was enacted through emergency funding.

If they ever intended obeying with Thai law, they have had 2 years to hold hearings. If the projects are "emergency" they can hardly bitch when the hearings are expedited.

Exactly... they ramrodded approval of the funds by emergency decree and now 2 years later so called emergency funds are still waiting to be used for the emergency of 2 years ago...

Hmmm - wonder how much has actually been used for "other essential purposes" by now.

I guess you can do that, when you're a democratically elected government.

  4. Interesting. So the DSI can work quickly when it wants too. All a big show to help divert attention from the huge amount of issues the government has - rice, water management, cabinet reshuffles, leaked audio tapes etc etc.

However, the DSI, being part of the Justice Department should hopefully know what the rules are concerning extradition.

Hopefully the US will simply ignore this bs and tell the DSI to follow the correct process.

DSI will never investigate or try to extradite their owner of course.

  5. Aw com'on now guys. Sometimes a little "white lie" is needed to boost confidence! Obviously learned this from the Finance Minister, PM/DM and indeed the big boss himself.

Any sentence containing the words "Pheu Thai" and "confident" should be treated with caution. No doubt some "poor" farmers will be trotted out soon to praise PTP for enriching their lives.

The truth about how much this has cost the country and who has really benefited will never be released. More chance of revoking illegally issued passports (or even answering questions on that topic).

  6. Let this be a lesson to the world, about the true mentality and the lack of respect many Thais have for foreigners, countries and cultures. However, this is an excellent opportunity for business investment as one can see, simple minds can easily be manipulated.

If any one knows any thing at all about The Thai education system they will realize it has nothing to do with the Thai mentality,

That is just out and out Thai bashing.

It is more to do with their education system.

How much knowledge did you have of the Thai's role in WW2 in your foreign education.

In mine American I had none.

Thailand welcomed Japanese troops into their country and allowed them to run pow camps in kanchanaburi. Then, they later sided with the Americans to stop the spread of communism. They join the money, wherever that comes from

You are partially correct, I know that now but I did not learn of it in my 64 years in North America. It was not an Item it was always the Japanese against the Americans. A friend of mine grew up in Canada and he was telling me that all his knowledge in school was the same as mine as they were using American history books.

When I said partially correct I was referring to the POW camps. For the building of the railroad to Burma the camps were run by Koreans and on completion turned over to the Japanese.

There is a plaque in one of the cemeteries there telling about this it also said the living conditions improved when the rail road was done and /the Japanese took over the POW camps.

Ever talked with any WW2 veterans who were prisoners of the Japanese? I have known many. Koreans were used as the guards and low ranks. The Japanese officers and NCO's treated the Koreans with contempt and of course the Koreans took it out on the prisoners. The Japanese committed wicked viscious attrocities against the Chinese people, the peoples of all the nations they invaded and Prisoners of War. This was as deliberate, well planned and systematic as the horrors perputrated by their Nazi allies.

The comment that "living conditions improved when the Japanese took over is nonsense and simply untrue. Japan did not delegate responsibility or authority to Korea. Sounds like an example of a Thai "white lie" to please their Japanese friends who just happen to be the biggest investor in Thailand.

What is sad is that the justice meted out to the Nazis was not replicated to their Japanese counterparts, due to American foreign policy and scheming. Go figure that one.

Right or wrong, it is a bit of an oversimplification - especially without any context - to call it "American foreign policy and scheming", don't you think? The Cold War was a bit more complex and multi-faceted as were the motives - not all of them unworthy, by any means - of the US and her allies.

And there's ample room to argue that the Allies didn't go after the Japanese as hard but they executed over 900 for war crimes - so it's not as if they ignored their wrongdoing...

I'm not an American basher, never have been and have many American friends Joe. But, quite a lot of new information on that period has been and is being released. Do some research on the American / Allies discussions regarding Japan, MacArthur's machinations including his relationship with government, the missing billions of treasures looted by the Japanese. In particular contrast the fate and post war positions of many senior Japanese war government leaders with their Nazi counterparts.

It's an over simplification to say the threat of the spread of communism was the only driver. America overruled the Allies in many instances and some of the many reasons are coming to light. Much of the new work coming out is by American scholars. Japan's elite got off light - very light in the context of their cirmes.

  7. Wonder how many people in the us know that Henry Ford was a big financial sponsor of the nazi party during it's rise to power before the war and the catholic church helped nazi war criminals escape to South-Amerika after the war .

And then there was Werner van Braun who helped a lot with the space program during the fifty's and Sixty's in the US.

Many wealthy and upper class hi-so Westerners supported Hitler and the Nazis in the early years. The "justification" was usually that they believed he was a strong counter to the rise of bolshevism which as the proletariat they feared. They conveniently turned a blind eye to the growing attrocities, preferring to see the "big picture".

  8. I'd like to know a bit more about what's going on here.

You say that it's due to ignorance, but is it? Plenty of Brits (embarrassingly I have to add - it makes me wince it really does) joke with this. John Cleese's famous goose step in faulty towers of course. Later, was it Prince Harry who also got caught trying to get mileage out of the taboo with his Nazi costume (such is art, everybody's interpretation is different... I thought it was either a brilliant political comment or a fascinating insight into the insecurities of a young king-to-be...)

Terribly insensitive for gypsies and jews of course. The Che parallel was a point well made even if it's not quite the same situation it dies highlight the ignorance of the young in particular.

Personally I am trying not to find it hilarious. If you see this, need to reprimand these kids and tell them why.

Harry's brother is the young king to be.

  9. Kind of weird that Thai's see this Monster as 'Trendy'. Shows a shocking lack of knowledge and understanding that this man would have had all Thai's exterminated as 'Sub-Humans', or worked them to death as slave labour.

Where do you get this idea?

Hitler hated blacks...no evidence that he hated Asians. He teamed with the Japanese and he had enormous respect for Tibetan culture, for starters.

Hitler was/is demonized because he threw a huge monkey wrench into the world order of his time.

...and the victors wrote the history.

The only reason he teamed with the Japanese was more to do with not having to cross paths with them at any point. Better to side with them rather than their enemy.

Google German Japanese anti-comitern pact. You might learn something.

  10. Let this be a lesson to the world, about the true mentality and the lack of respect many Thais have for foreigners, countries and cultures. However, this is an excellent opportunity for business investment as one can see, simple minds can easily be manipulated.

  11. And after the 3 months is up whether the forms are finished or not, for or against the project it WILL start and the money WILL be paid out.

    Democracy PTP style.

The 4 winning bidders got cabinet approval. How wonderfully transparent and open the bidding process must have been. Wonder if the results of the bids and supplier selection criteria will be made available at these forums too. K-Water even went to the trouble of taking advice from a former Thai PM an PhD. Wonder if that helped secure their bid?

  12. Correct of the Supreme Commander General. The Army has nothing to do with the return of Thaksin. It is the judiciary. Where the Army has right of veto (as it should be until these thieves and thugs can learn democracy is not about hijacking the whole system), and backing the judiciary over these corrupt thieves, is when Thaksin and/or Pheau Thai do not obey a Thaksin thugs non threatened court/s decision.

So if the government fail to answer the omburdsman question or revoke the illegally issued passport to their leader, the court could need some support? Just saying.....

  13. I love Thailand. It never ceases to amaze me daily by the bald outright lies and untruths that are spoken by those at the top and their belief that the "masses" will just accept it. Thank goodness that is changing, albeit slowly. Yingluck has done a fantastic job in showing the "masses" what outright liars and thieves they all are. Keep up the great work. After 2 more years of this, they'll never get in power again.

In the unlikely event that the Social Democrats get rid of the albatross around the neck (Abhiisit) you might be correct. Otherwise the Pua Thai will probably win with a smaller majority. Then we might see some stiring of Thailand from it's decades of malaise.

You're having a laugh!! thumbsup.gif I get your posts now really dark humour clap2.gif

Must be, because no one would believe PTP could change their spots whether they get re-elected or not. A party owned and controlld by a fugutive criminal, riddled by corruption, mismanagement and inept in most things it does.

Thailand really needs some new, corrupt free, capable leaders - fat chance with this lot.

  14. You can't believe anything any Thai government agency says. You won't find anything detrimental about rice coming from them as they are glad to cover up deficiencies for the good of the industry.

What I can't understand is, if the rice is as good as they claim and virtually free of any contamination then why is it rotting and why can't they sell it?

The price the government paid for it is much higher than the prices other countries sell at on the world market. So Thailand would have to convince potential customers that the increased quality of their rice is worth the price premium. Unfortunately nobody seems to be accepting this. There is plenty of lower priced rice available so there is no supply shortage to fill either. Thailand has to be careful of the WTO and dumping allegations if it lowers the price.

PTP set the price pledged to the farmers to encourage votes, although we can see it's not the farmers who have profited. PTP were arrogant enough to believe they could manipulate the world market prices which the can't.

Now they have high priced rice, with strong allegations of quality problems. That's why they can't sell. A poorly thought out policy, implemented with high levels of corruption and now completely out of hand. That's why they don't want to divulge the losses and identify the corrupt.

  15. Almost everyone and organisation in the rice business is corrupt ranging from the Rice Farmer up. The rice farmer's gains from corruption is thought to be minimal and for the most part seek to nullify the fraud of the Rice Mills. It is beween the mill and the wharehousing that serious corruption takes place. If polititions participate in wharehousing of rice or it milling, it should be easy to discover sicne they will have registered so when elected.

The issue of corruption blights all of the Wharehousing systems in Thailand including. Sugar, Palm Oil, Cassava, Rubber.

If this matrix of corruption is organised by politcians in government or in opposition or if in unellected time-out, such corruption must be defended by their benifacors. Who are the benifactors (defenders)? They cannot be from one party. The benefactors may extend through all Hi-So organisations and people. Could the invisable man be an issue here?

Would this be the case corruption would continue into the future unless the government of the day beat it out of the system. That no doubt lead to many contract killings and years of increased instability.

One thing for sure is that the Red Shirts cannot be responsible for such an organised rape of goverment agri-resources. This is simply because they have not been in government before and there cannot have contributed to such a carefully organised crime system or such a nationwide wide conspiracy.

That the Red Shirts might be benefactors now, that a goverment that is sensitive to their expectations is in power, is also a possibility.

Wow - the 'invisible man" and I thought H.G.Wells' novel was just fiction (like this post). Wonder if he wears bandages, sunglasses and a trilby when he's not been invisible like the T V series?

  16. Stop bringing your western values to Thailand... they don't work here.

Hitler is just a historical figure, no worse than Chairman Mao.. so get over it.

Just assuming you're serious for a moment, Mao killed by the million only his own people, and that by accident. Hitler deliberately murdered tens of millions of Europeans and others as a part of his attempt at world domination, and specifically tried to exterminate the whole Jewish race. Can you see the difference?

Sorry, but your data are wrong. Mao caused the direct killing between of 6 to 10 million people in China. Only on the tibet were 800.000 deads.

In the "laolai" 50 millions of people were imprisioned and it's estimated 20 millions were killed on them

So.....Mao was much worst than Hitler in terms of death. And seriously, I do not believe Mao give much better conditions to the politic prisioners than hitler.

Of course, this doesn't make Hitler a good person, but Mao was worst in my opinion

It's not just about body counts! Hitler destroyed countries, cultrues, and would liked to have wiped out certain races of peoples too. Germany caused two devestating world wars in a relatively short times space which cost the lives of many millions and changed the world forever. China suffered terribly under Japanese imperial forces, and then had to suffer communism under Mao. China has not caused world wars.

Your analysis is spot on spr&q. Hitler plunged millions into world war, devastated cities and was resposnible for unthinkable crimes against humanity. He systematically set out to murder all Jews and other groups he disliked with a chillingly cold mechanistic approach. There have been many more inhuman monsters in the world, and Mao and Stalin are certainly two. But Hitler's inhumanity and crimes outweigh all the others. He and his regime were the most dispicable.

  18. Who said Chula was one of the top Uni in the country ? well they probably never went to world History courses.... if there are any .which is not sure.

Chulalongkorn is considered the Oxford-Cambridge-Harvard-Yale of Thai education. Thammasat is a little way off as #2.

In reality, the Oxbridge unis in England are not the top ones for many subjects (e.g. Economists at LSE are the elite, science at Imperial College).

Likewise universities like Khon Kaen University have been hailed as offering better courses in various subjects.

Thank you for your view and opnion. Do you have links to all the research to support your assertive statement please?

  19. whistling.gif A well thought out and coherent plan for infrastructure development COULD benefit Thailand and help it's economy grow rationally.

However, since this is Thailand the terms "well thought out" and "coherent" are not part of the plan.

The "urgent need" to implement a plan without thinking seems very suspicious to me.

What's the rush to spend so much money quickly?

Especially spending so much money so quickly without first considering the plan details or especially releasing details to the public?

Makes me more suspicious than ever.

    whistling.gif

Suspiciuos - borrowing very large sums of money, "off balance sheet", outside the normal process of parliamentary scruitiny, and then spending them without following the process laid down by law, or showing any kind of plan or accountability. Awarding key contracts to a supplier whose financial status is questionable, facing serious perfromance questions in their own country and who was happy to welcome a convicted fugitve criminal fraudster with much aplumb and publicity.

Why whould you be suspicious? Seems like normal PTP activity and modus operandi.
