  1. "Police found roughly three grams (0.1 ounces) of marijuana.

Shah denied the drug charge and was freed on bail. If convicted he faces a light sentence because marijuana possession for personal use is not considered a serious offence in Thailand."

I thought ANY drug offence was a serious matter in Thailand, or does it depend on who you are, as to what the punishment is ?

  2. Thanks for the links, "kidney failure" is listed as one of the symptoms, I only have one kidney, due to having had one removed due to cancer, possibly this is the cause. I do not take any drugs at all, so I think it's safe to rule out the list of medications.

I should have written in my original post that I'm 58, as age can also be a cause, if I've read the notes correctly.

  3. Can anyone recommend exercises for getting rid of man -boobs ? I am only slightly overweight (by 5 kgs), but the man boobs are really annoying, especially if I want to go jogging.

I have a multi-gym, an exercise bike and one of those walking machines, but nothing seems to work. My diet is low fat, high fibre, low salt, and low protein.

Any tips / advice welcome, thank you.

  4. Stunning second half of football. Looks like you Citeh fans are gonna have to keep those tranquilisers handy for another season at least!

Tell me about it. Started this season as we finished the last one, jangling nerves. We played like there was no urgency until they got in front. Several poor performances. Also hope Aguero's injury isn't too bad.

Likewise, about Aguero, he's one of those players that makes football great to watch. If the injury does prove to be a long-term one, then personally I'd go for Falcao, from Atletico Madrid, as a replacement.

  5. While Gerrard was one of the few who performed at the Euros, he was dismal yesterday. The new manager has brought in his replacement, Allen, and perhaps Gerrard realises his days at Anfield are numbered. There's been a lot of talk that Carroll won't fit in with the new way of losing, oops sorry playing, but on yesterdays debacle, neither will Gerrard. Realistically Gerrards age, history of being injury prone, and no longer being top dog (certainly in the new managers eyes), may see him moving on over the next season.

  6. Just a quick note to wish everyone good luck in the competition. As it's my first season, I'm expecting to be involved in the bottom sector of the table. Personally I found it difficult to assess the games, with no form to go on, and some really tricky games to forecast, as I'm sure my scores will show !

Don't expect any favours from mrboj....I hear his missus is still fuming at his not winning a new Prada handbag for her last season.

He will no doubt be working even harder this time round! biggrin.png

She's gonna get a copy Gucci instead this year biggrin.png

You chaps seem to know an awful lot about handbags.......hopefully your footy knowledge isn't up to the same level.biggrin.png

  8. Just asked my daughter. Appen seems to be correct.

Don't know if your post was a tongue-in-cheek post or not, but Thais say "appen" only because they cannot pronounce the "L" at the end of a word. They always substitute it with an "N" as is done also in the Thai language.

Hence you have: "noodun" (noodle), "poodun" (poodle), and "schoon" (school) -- all commonly used in the Thai language.

It was tongue in cheek. And this is the problem with the English in Thailand. Can they say L? Yes, because they say Lor Ling, but from what I've experienced here, they don't see the problem.

Thailand needs to make a choice, either bin learning English or learn it properly. I'm not suggesting it is easy to learn English, but what is the point of learning it to a level that the rest of the English speaking world will not understand? Most of us will fill in their mistakes because we understand them more as we live here, but you take Somchai to Europe or wherever and they will have no clue.

Horse, they say whore. Six they sick.

I wan sick whore. Or I want six horses. Very different.

Also they don't know how to tranliterate properly. Suvarnabhumi. No, why have a v if you use a w sound and why have the I at the end. Words like this make teaching phonetics pointless and they do not make sense. An example of the way it should be done is with Japanese. Most Japanese is easy to read when written in English because the spell it phonetically. In Thai you have no ideal what to pronounce.

As for learning Chinese, sure learning any language is a good thing, but the purpose of Chinese? Only to do business in China or travel in China and how many people will that be from school?

You can have the six horses mate, I'll have...

  9. It sounds like the star on the shirt was the problem, if that's the case the place is definitely not worth patronising, spend your money with people who aren't prejudiced, against anyone.

I've only ever seen anti-semitism once in Thailand, about 12 years ago in Pattaya. A Thai stallholder (on the side of the road opposite the beach), was waving at some tourists, telling them to "go Israel go", and other comments, (in broken English), while waving them away. There was no obvious indication to me how he could tell the people were Jewish or Israeli, but he wouldn't sell to them.

I'd forgotten all about this episode until I read this, guess that's what getting old does to one.

  10. From beetlejuice's post above

"As in the event of a death of an actual spouse, than the partner is entitled to full value of the estate, unless a will states otherwise, if (regarding property) it is placed up for sale within the first 12 months from date of death, unless the farang husband has some sort of lease agreement on the family home for a certain time period."

So if I get a good lawyer, (recommendations gratefully accepted), and get him to draw up, for example, a 30 year lease, then I have no worries if anything happens to my wife ? (I'm almost sixty).

  11. Sorry for your loss. It's hard enough losing someone, without having to go through any additional worries and problems, I hope everything works out for you.

Probably like a few others, this topic has got me thinking what if ?

So with that in mind, can anyone recommend a reputable lawyer, or give advice on wills, or how to ensure a foreigner can stay in a property his wife owns, if the wife was to die first ?
