Bans in the home of some of the world's biggest automakers are a further blow for the sector, and an embarrassment for Chancellor Angela Merkel's government, which has faced criticism for its close ties to the industry.

    …....................

Since the VW-Diesel-Scandal had gotten abroad the German government under Merkel was very silent. Specially, her transport Minister Alexander Dobrindt (2013-2017) failed to do something relevant against this criminal trick. He seemed to be and acted like a lobbyist of the car industry.

Even today the Merkel government tries to lade the consequences on the shoulders of the customers, and not on the those of the culprits. And that's very sad because the diesel cars have lost their value. It's hard or nearly impossible to sell them.

Now there are many problems connected to the car ban. Imagine you cannot sell your diesel car, what would to do (in the future), if

    • you want to see someone in a city with a ban, whereas your diesel car is not banned in your own city/village

    • the people – especially from the middle class – need their cars for the job, i.e. plumbers, craftsmen in general, doctors, etc.

    • the taxi is a diesel car

    • public diesel transport/traffic cars are not allowed to leave a banned city to a remote village

The list goes on. The government/cities and probably the courts will be very busy in the next years.

Arming teachers only makes sense. Banks, airports, sporting events all have armed protection, what's wrong with school teachers being able to defend themselves?

    The typical Trump logic

    • respond to violence by violence. Why bother?

    • don't consider the consequences

    • don't go to the root of the problem (violent behavior)

    • when mortally shot by the villain the teacher/s will kill the villain :shock1:

Don't be ashamed.  Trump is not the USA.  People made a big mistake but did it because they wanted change.  Now most realise that and that Trump was precisely what America didn't need.  HE is the embarrassment and the only people who need to feel ashamed are those who still support him!

@dunroaming, we and the majority of the people in the world hope you are right.

    But don't underestimate

    • the stupidity of the voters,
    • the big, powerful money/influence in  the background - i.e. NRA, Koch brothers etc -,
    • the idiotic, anti-democratic  US election law, which means: it doesn't matter if the POTUS is elected by a minority of the voters.

I know what you mean.  When I first saw that Trump Tweet, I thought to myself "no one in their right mind could possibly believe that nonsense."  But the sheer stupidity of some Trump supporters is simply breathtaking.

And don't forget the party supporting this most incompetent and insensitive Moron. When it is named "GOP"   -  I  :cheesy:

Grand?  MOP  is the right name - Misery Of (a) Party, confirmed by the history of the last 2 decades

And now Bannon is all but crawling on his hands and knees begging at the White House. Never attack a man's family. The only thing this book is going to do is solidify the GOP and then in the mid-terms (elections) many of those dem seats up for grabs will be going to the GOP making them even stronger.

Just hope whomever gets elected in the 2024 race for POTUS doesn't undo all the good that President Trump is and will have done by then.

I guess you think about "p@ssy grabbing" and straying. You hit the nail on the head!

At least, Bannon didn't have this "good".

So the Dreamers can be bought.

exactly my idea. If you want something from Trump .... you must pay. This time for 25$ billion.

Vice versa, that doesn't work in the same way. He himself got it much cheaper in the Trump University fraud - after the November 8, 2016 election.  A "settlement" eliminated the possibility that Trump would be called to testify in court in the midst of his presidential transition  He payed only $25 million.

  7. Since Trump won the US top job, we are used to hear lies, lies ….. and „alternative facts“. Examples for this? You can read or hear them every day in the medias. So he deserve the new title: LOTUS, The Liar Of The United States. The term alternative facts, built by a minon of Trump, contains already the system of the new government and its constitutions.

Therefore no surprise that people in the US - and in the world, too -, cannot trust a country with an incompetent, volgar, egomanic …. (the negativ list goes on) LOTUS on its top, and a party that supported and didn't stop such a moron.

I have found an excellent symbol for this situation

Trump was wrapping up a round of golf at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida when the incident was unfolding. White House spokeswoman Lindsay Walters said Trump was briefed and that it "was purely a state exercise."

How high is his handycap? Does anybody know?

No, no …..not for his golf playing .........., but for the working time of his responsible job as POTUS?

China has a 72 hour transit visa on arrival for citizens of a number of countries.  There's an immigration lane for it at Beijing, and some other cities, airport.  You need to show your onward ticket, departing less than 72 hours after arrival, plus valid visa for where you're travelling to next, if applicable.  There are a number of "layover" tour companies that will pick you up from the airport and take you to the great wall, or other places, some even providing jackets if you don't have any warm clothing.  these need to be booked in advance though, and I'd recommend checking up on your validity for the visa before making the booking.

My best friend, married to a great Chinese lady (of Kunming), did it many times after arriving from Germany.

The legal setup in Poland was established after the removal of Soviet influence by the politicians who took post=Soviet power. This legal setup was self-perpetuating, in that the politically appointed legal officials chose their successors for eternity, which meant that the regime which took over from the Soviet-appointed one got to control the juduciary for eternity.. The new regime wants to reign this disturbing power in. The EU wants to maintain it because the people who currently control it have migrated to EU high command (Donald Tusk is the leading one of these).

Khun Hahn as usual and biased.

.... Since taking power in 2015, PiS has set about dismantling the country’s checks and balances. It has reduced the public broadcaster to a propaganda organ, packed the civil service with loyalists and purged much of the army’s leadership. It has undermined the independence of the judiciary by stacking the Constitutional Tribunal with its cronies. In response, the European Commission warned Poland’s government last year that such changes pose “a systemic risk to the rule of law”. …....

"It just shows everyone how broken and unfair our Court System is when the opposing side in a case (such as DACA) ... almost always wins before being reversed by higher courts," the Republican president wrote on Twitter.

The dement LOTUS (Liar Of The.... ) has already forgotten the Arpaio case. Arpaio should have been sentenced for ~6 years in jail. But in the "new fair law system" - created by the LOTUS - this former criminal Rep Sheriff of Arizona has been pardoned by Trump. Now Arpaio would like to be elected as the new A. Senator.

It seems that you must have a copmpletely reprieved character to get a job in the hierarchy of the Republicans.

Everyone should be concerned that someone as narcissistic as Trump will provoke an international crisis. Look up the term 'narcissistic rage' if you're not. Concerns that his cognitive abilities are in decline are also legitimate given (1) his age, (2) repeated reports that his attention span is very short, (3) he repeats himself incessantly,  (4) has difficulty processing written information, and (5) has a troubled relationship with the truth.  Please also note that he never submitted to a legitimate physical and mental evaluation as a presidential candidate.

    May I add:

    6) His father suffered dementia.  The medical science assumes that at least 5% of all dementia cases have a genetic origin.

  13. This (criminal) moron remembers me Trump.

They don't worry about the national budget. They promise a lot of money what they must not pay out of their own pocket. There are enough stupid people who believe these autocrats take care for them by election promises. In reality they think of

    themselves and for the money-elite.

Berlusconi doesn't worry about the wrotten and partly corrupt bureaucracy and the government's debt. The justice system is in a desolate status so that the criminals can rely on it! He himself gained from this disaster: Many of his cases of tax evasion expired by limitation.

Thinking of the future of the people or the state? Apres moi, le deluge (the devil-may-care).

  14. For me a typical US problem. 3 reasons

    1. job exducation for the police is disastrous, no serious law and right education. That cannot work within a few months, as it does/n't in the USA. Are you able to tell me one state in the civilized world, where so many people have been shot by police even for minor misdemeanors, i.e. traffic offences? In civilized states police shoot the people/criminals only in the case of real self- defence. They are obliged to make them unable to fight.

    2. Gun law. Because the police are afraid that the culprit may have a gun they are afraid to be killed und therefore shot first. This means they are afraid of violence. In civilised countries the police must not be afraid that culprits have a gun, in general. They try to talk before, having ideas and job-education of not killing the culprits.

    3. To me it seems that the US people have a gene of violence on their chromosomes. Devellopped in history when occupying the land of the indigenous people. That means being prepared when going around the corner, through the mountains, or the forests. The only solution: kill before you are killed.

In many cases they are unable to solve a problem by talking to each other. I had my own experience with such a gun-lover in a guesthouse below our land. When our dog „touched“ him we heard a big noise. Running downwards I saw this man menacing he would shoot our dog if she would „touch“ him again. This man pretendet to be a dog expert when talking to each other and abou dogs(!) the day before. A Non-American – and just a dog expert - would have talked to us about the problem.
