May be true but if you go to rural issan upcountry, there are small hamlets with literally no human habitations around for miles let alone schools. Thailand traditionally do not have public schools in ancient time. The temple provides the schooling for the public thus the emergence of temple schools. With no means of upgrading themselves, the males would go into hard labour while the females chose the easier path. There are females in constructions too but they live a hard life. You would be surprised to know that majority rural issan people are quite conservative in their outlook.

Phuket, koh samui, pattaya, hua hin, Chiangmai, Bangkok, chiangrai being more inhabited by foreigners each with their preferences. There are many types of Thai people with different ancestral backgrounds. There are myanmar- Thai culture in Mae sot area, pattani Thai culture in the south, Laos - Thai culture in northern part of issan , Cambodia-Thai culture in the lower part of issan, central Thai culture from sukhotai Ayutthaya,Lopburi,Bangkok area, Lanna-Thai culture in chiangmai,chiangrai region. those Thais in the night club areas are mainly from issan region. Both man and women. They are also being discriminated and exploited by mainstream thais too so can you blame them with their ‘it’s us against them mentality ?’ Given their myopic interactions with the only foreigners they come across daily?

Thais have thin skin, big face. If any one of them think that they are being slighted ( regardless valid or not) they will resort to retribution. They can get someone to put a bullet into you with those cheap homemade ‘guns’ to maim or kill or use mumbo jumbo black magic to put a hex on you. Either way as a farang, it is always better to get some local thai to do the firing as an insulation between the farang and the employees. In Malaya of yesteryear, British estate owners used to employ Chinese estate managers to handle the local Malays and Indians as an insulative layer of cultural ‘face saving’ . The locals understand the cultural nuances better.

This is Thai community responsibility mentality … the headman responsible for families under his domain, the parents responsible for his children , the siblings responsible for those wayward ones. Not alien to other Asian social structure..

Pick your friends carefully and pick your drinking buddies even more carefully.

Trained Thai personnel costs money. My friend has night club security who are off duty policemen. You can tell by their crew cut and police boots. When you are visiting red light or nightclubbing areas in any country , it is always prudent to be respectful and not having an ‘in your face’ attitude disrespecting the locals regardless how slight you felt. You never knew if they are empowered by the local mafia or police. The end result may not be what you had in mind for a dream holiday . Spending your holiday lying in the hospital bed is a no brainer. Why escalate any confrontation to end up hurt or worse comatose. It is not for your well being. what the tourists did that night confronting the nightclub staff they did is just escalating instead of de escalating the situation. You cannot expect the lowly paid enforcers to be professional . This is Thailand ! And what happens to the other guy ( I read only the white shirted and grey shirted guys paid their share) who skipped paying his share ? Casual acquaintance at the club or buddy. ? Shame on him for leaving his buddies taking the piss. All that for a mere tb2800 bill at that. Remember Thailand security is not first world security working on de escalation. They are actually enforcers making sure you do not skip your bill regardless padded or not.

The same in every doggy nightclubs all over the world. Management trying to glean more from punters and it is on the punter’s initiative to be alert to bill padding. In my youth, I went to a nightclub with a dance floor. I told the bar tender to keep the tab open( meaning put my charges onto my tab). End of the night, even though i was sober, I detected some drinks ordered by someone else but put onto my tab. Lesson learned.

Ya.. I stayed nearby hotel and passed the street frequently when there. Never seen anything menacing going on. Just punters and girls doing their thing. Nothing menacing in the air.

Singapore nightlife is so much tamer than Thailand so undesirables aren’t attracted to them. Moreover Singapore policing is so much more proactive ( especially in geylang red light areas) . Pundits or hooligans would get much more value for their money if they go to Thailand instead. Cheap food cheap booze and cheap puxxx . What could go wrong.?

Girlie Bars overseas in Europe and America also had their share of bill padding or outright fraud. It is to be expected if you want to venture to such areas. Pattaya is no different. Adult entertainment playground would surely attract undesirables too. Both pundits and enforcers.
