  1. Yes, buy the hard drive and put movies on yourself. If wifey has friends with movies, borrow and copy them too.

As others have said, it can be time consuming. maybe 8-15 minutes per CD depending on mb size and speed of computer.

I have just copied 3 cds of Tom n Jerry for a friend. 12 minutes per cd.

  2. Impossible to answer those questions en mass because each area is different.. Some areas of Thailand have 2 days of Sonkran some, like Pattaya have a week. You can avoid a lot of it if you wish to, but to many it is what the holiday is all about.

So many accidents? Yes it is too many. But until the police force start a major campaign against drunk & dangerous driving it will continue. Road blocks all over the country with breathalysers would be needed.

Also a television campaign is needed to educate Thai people ( not they will listen ).

  3. See what time of day they are on. Many working girls are, erm. working evenings, until early morning. If they are on line after say 02-00 what do you think they have been doing all night?

Ask THEM questions. Guide them with your questions. you have a good memory. They do not.

Then you check out where they really work.

Use some common sense and judgement!!

Thai Friendly. Date In Asia. to name but two more.

  4. As part of an ongoing clampdown over the last couple of months on the bars situated on the road outside Nirun condo complex off Pattaya Klang near 7/11 the police have been making raids to close the bars. The Wombat bar at the Shagwell hotel has also been targeted. They were told to turn the music off at midnight, with the police in attendance every night at one point.

Last week the police moved in on the bars near Nirun Condo complex / 7/11 shop near soi Arunothai 7 and closed them. The customers were ordered out immediately, not allowed to finish their beers or even given time to pay their bills. This was around about 12-45 a.m.

This week on Wednesday 1st Feb van loads of BKK police raided the bars and closed them. No hassle, no argument. Get out now. Next night the Wombat (Outback?) bar at the Shagwell hotel was told to turn their music off again after having music on too late.

Yes, it is classed as a residential area and the bars should not be playing music so late. What surprised me is the fact the police used were BKK police, according to the manageress of one bar. Are the local police not trusted?

I have to admit one or two of the small bars started pumping out really loud music. So loud we had to change bars. I can well imagine some people have been complaining to the police when you can hear that music 2 or three streets away.

  5. You bar fine a girl you take her out the bar what happens then has absolutely nothing to do with the bar whatsoever the bar has lost a member of staff for some hours sometimes for the whole night you took that member of staff out of the bar you PAY end of story.

Whatever happens between you and the girl once you leave the bar is your business, Ive seen it all before some paralytic drunk idiot shouting "do you know who the f'k I am" to the cashier as he wants his money back, he's abused the staff member he bar fined in the room, bullied her in a whiskey fueled rage and she run out the room scared for her safety sending him into a fit of rage returning to the bar to get his poxy 6 quid back, sad, low life, incapacity benefit claiming scum bag losers that make Frank Gallagher look like a perfect role model.

Not correct in so many cases. If you take the girl for 'long time' that is what you pay for and should get. I know a few people who have had refunds off the mamasan when the prozzie has not fulfilled her side of the agreement.

I repeat and this is how it works, when you bar fine a girl your paying for the time lost at the bar with her work duties not what happens between you and the girl that's between you two and your business how long you keep her for short or long time. The bar does not in anyway make money or on some sort of commission with the girl if/when you pay for more then simply taking her out the bar, that's the girls money not the bars!!!

An average 300 baht bar fine across the board in beer bars is to take the girl out until the next working day, if you agree to pay her short time then she will obvioulsly leave when your finished and return to the bar (if she wants) If you want to keep her longer then 1 working day you pay another 300 baht to the bar, what you and her get up to is of no conceren to the bar unless you treat her badly.

Now you know how it works. rolleyes.gif

Then your experiences are different to mine and we will have to agree to disagree :)

i was friends with a mamasan for 2 years and know how she worked it.

  6. Definitely cheaper if you only want the 1 year here before going back. Obviously anything over a year is a pain.

My flight LGW - BKK £510 last year. I return on Wednesday.

Last year I flew BKK - LGW one way so I could save money. But now I will buy singles so I can get 15 months + here before having to return. Simply because it is darn cold in the UK at present with all that ice and snow. A drop of 30 degrees C is no fun !!! sad.png

  7. Am dumb when it comes to this, what return dates do you put down on the ticket you buy in the UK?

if you book one month after flying, how much does it cost to change the dates and maybe route.

Check the calendar on their sites. Usually abt 9 months ahead.

If you want to change the flight date for the return leg let them know when you book. With some tickets are not able to change dates.

Emirates this time on a Q class ticket = no charge for change of date. Others £60 / £75.

Check the class of ticket on the website where you are booking. Also how much notice to give on date change.

  9. Nakhon Sawan does have its good points. Yet it also has negatives. Utopia? Far from it IMHO.

    Pro's.

Cheap housing / accommodation. Good markets. Friendly people. Good restaurants. Friendly BiB (generally). Plenty of sexy ladies. Good TukTuk & m/c taxis. Sawan Park is good. Plenty of good bars etc if you like Thai music. The best Chinese New Year celebrations in Thailand. Friendly staff.

Good roads out of there tongue.png

    Cons.

Dusty. Very few pavements (You cannot really walk anywhere.) You need a car or a motorbike to get around. Black soot for months when the sugar harvest & burning takes place. Very little English music. Floods every year. Electric off often. Too little English spoken.

I used to like that place until I moved around a lot to other parts of the country. After 1 year away I went back. So dusty and very hot. Stacks of rubbish / rubble piled at the side of some main roads. Little to do at all in the daytime.

  10. It seems all banks are using these card readers nowadays.

HSBC is OK, no major traumas but I don't use their debit/credit cards.

Does anyone know if while in UK you can say you've lost your card reader and get another issued. Then have 2 card readers (one as back up). Asking this as when something does happen you have to go in your "nearest branch" to get a replacement.

You can request another card reader with no problems at all.

  11. Not so simple these days to get a new account.

Most banks require a card reader. With Barclays you can change your on-line banking access once you are logged on with a card reader. You can get a free card reader while you are in the UK.

£500 a day? Why not ask the bank while you are there to upgrade you from your present amount?

Barclays offer me 24 hours a day telephone banking.

loansticklb.gifYour income and employment details, including full business address

loansticklb.gifDetails of your other financial arrangements such as your mortgage or store card account.

Opening an account in the local branch they say you will need

Your Personal Banker will discuss your needs and help you choose the best account for you. This can typically take up to 60 minutes, depending on your personal circumstances.

We'll also need to check your identity and in some cases see proof of address. If you have a UK passport or UK photocard driving licence, great – bring one of those. List of acceptable ID

If you're moving from another UK bank, it'll also help if you can bring along a statement from the last 3 months – we'll look to match any existing facilities such as overdraft limits.
