  1. Just a heads up, maybe a lot of Guys are aware of this but it caught me off-guard today
I went to my bank and got the letter needed from them saying 800+K in account for over 3 Months
Also had Bank Books updated while there. . . .

Off to Chonburi (Pattaya) Immigration I go, only to be told bank book entries no good . .
Because I had not made any transaction in the savings account for a few weeks, the last entry although it showed the correct balance as written in the Bank letter, was over 2 weeks old, not acceptable they say, even though the Bank letter was dated today and had correct balance shown . .

I had to return to the bank, and make a deposit and withdrawal (in and out so as to keep the balance written on Bank letter correct) therefore a transaction was shown on todays date

People may be aware, but I thought this worth mentioning as it was a bit of a pain
Everything accepted fine now that is done, pick up Passport tomorrow.

Just came in in on Qatar airlines. Had a price i could not pass up. I will definitely try and get a flight out with them on the way back if the price is still good.

Service was exceptional IMO, I was flying economy class and the plane was packed. I was amazed at the Russian's coming into Thailand. I must be behind times. No offense to the Russians what so ever, just that I was floored that probibly 90% on board were Russian.

Thanks for this, let us know your experience on the way out at U-Tapao flying Qatar please ?

  6. The free lifetime updates do not apply to the Thai version GPS Units, there is no option to "Update" via the system onboard
As far as i know ESRI  (Mapping Company in Bangkok) does the map software
The software installed is Thailand City Navigator, you can check which version (Year) you have installed by going into settings on your car unit.
There is a pretty simple way of updating your installed Maps, Mine is on a SD card installed in the unit
    I updated mine to :
City Navigator Thailand NT 2017.20 [Dual]
Updated it Yesterday, and it appears to be working fine, shows new Golf Courses etc the old version did not have . . . .
I have done this a few times before as well, but found recently an easier quicker way
My car was Bought January 2015, latest version last Model Toyota Fortuner TRD, Sure the GPS data same on most Toyota similar timeframe
    Cost ??? Zero Baht, and 10 minutes download, 5 minutes install . . .

  7. Went to Jomtien Immigration Yesterday to renew retirement Visa/Extension, did not realise they want you to transfer the existing stamps/approvals to my new passport first (Old Passport was full so i got a new one)
They took all my documents and said all ok . . . .  Went to collect today and was told i needed another form filling in, and that they did not even have this form, i was told to go to "Key Visa" out near Sukhumvit Big C Pattaya Thai, drove there, they charged me 300 Baht for a form they printed off (UK Embassy Form) That i personally filled out, they did not even check it or have anything to do with it, just gave me the form at 300 Baht per copy . . .  Hmmmmm
Took it back to Jomtien Immigration where they added it to my existing paperwork and then signed the transfer . .
They then accepted for application for renewal, back again tomorrow 2PM, when i will then have to apply for re-entry permit
Might have been easier to let it expire and just get a new one . . .

I own a Toyota Hilux Vigo 'G' 2014 model which includes a dash fitted Navigation unit.  To update the map, the ONLY way this can be done is to purchase a new Toyota supplied SD card to include new map data.  If you bought one today (time of writing is 20th June 2017), it will cost you B20,955 and the database is dated 2015.  WARNING:  If you think you can simply remove the mini SD card (located in the right hand bottom corner of the dash unit - see photo below) and then try downloading a new map system from the internet - BE WARNED.  Firstly, it doesn't work and secondly it wipes the existing map database clean.  How do I know this?  I tried and failed to my cost.  I'm writing this message impressing upon you not to go through the same heartache I've just experienced.  Anyway, if you do try and attach the mini SD card to a computer, and/or a phone, as soon as you connect to the computer that SD card is wiped clean and as a result, when you refit your SD card into the unit, you will see a warning message on the screen asking you to visit your local Toyota dealer - see photo below.  Additionally, two other functions no longer work:  1) the radio, CD and USB screen display, and 2) your bluetooth phone function does not function.  I must now either replace the SD card with a one and a half year old map database at a cost of B20,955 or purchase a non genuine dash unit at a cost of between B8,000 and B12,000.  I know which option I will chose, because when I come to resell my vehicle, if that dash unit isn't working, you can kiss goodbye to B20,955 off the value of your vehicle!  I too am not impressed with Toyota Thailand, especially their head office customer care staff who whilst listen to what you have to say - don't actually care at all.  If they did care, they'd make this an affordable update during dealer visits.  Toyota is thus prepared to have unhappy customers and miss an important incremental profit opportunity and so as far as I am concerned, their short-sightedness is at their greater cost.

Strange, i have a 2015 Fortuner with Sat Nav on SD Card and have been able to update it multiple times a year with no problem
Never heard of your computer wiping the files as soon as you insert ??  If you overwrite it, or try to update online to the SD Card Maybe, but that is not how you update them, it is not a very simple thing to do, but it is well documented in this forum (ThaiVisa)
