Of course when she said such silly things like doing away with prostitution it rubs many feathers the wrong way. She imagines a clean Thailand with healthy wholesome activities for tourists? Yes of course if that happens the number of tourists will drop drastically because all sex starved tourists will not be visiting Thailand they will go to China or vietnam or philippines wouldn't they? How are powerful going to feed their concubines and their children go to international school or Harold boarding school in England?
She should realized in certain jobs you keep very quiet and you don't step out of the line.
I was referring to the head of the small villages that have their local brothels and local 'love hotels' that no foreign tourist has set foot in because it is only known to the locals. She probably pissed off a local chief who had good contacts higher than her position. But that is pure speculation on my part, nothing more.
To think that the sex industry only exist because of foreign tourists is pretty narrow minded. The sex industry in Thailand existed way before us foreigners heard about this country.

Which is it? They don't want people smoking because of cig butts littering the beaches OR they don't want people to smoke, period?
This new law was put in place because of littering... As far as I know 'vaping' does not litter.

And then they wonder why no customers come. Typical.

In fact you can find them all over Europe. And the only reason why these machines shell out money is because the erstwhile buyer of these glass or plastic bottles paid a deposit of up to 10 or even 15 euro cents for each. So there is no "turning plastic bottles into cash" as the article implies, but simply getting the deposit refunded for doing what every responsible citizen should do: recycling their empty bottles instead of throwing them into the trash or, even worse, dumping them in the countryside.
Absolutely correct. In fact, the women in the video does say that people pay a 'surcharge' when buying a full bottle and that they will get that 'surcharge' back when the bring back their empties. Something the Thai article missed entirely or did not bother to mention.
Canada has been doing the same for decades with glass and plastic bottles.

So...while in Jomtien, I will have to cross the road to have a cigarette then go back to my deckchair for a sip of beer? Oh, wait! Didn't they outlaw drinking alcohol on the beach as well?
Never mind then. Better to find a restaurant across from the beach and give them your business instead. Stay tune for complaints from beach chair operators loosing all their customers.

500baht.
Who called it?
Yesterdays post, someone said 500 and everybody agreed. How predictable can they be...
This might become a side hobby for TV members - predicting amounts of fines.

What kind of dog did this? A great dane, an Irish wolfhound...? Would hate to come across one of those during a night stroll.

Now, how many people are Googling "International Road Laws + long convoys" ?

many Thais just said - "Oh, that's all right then!"
Malaysian ignoring Thai laws
Thai ignoring Thai laws (if they knew them in the first place)
Thai police not knowing Thai laws (or enforcing them if they did know them)
And then they wonder why they are ranked in the top 5 worst countries for driving...

A combined force of police and soldiers rounded up 50 prostitutes
A mere drop in the bucket. I guess these were all walkers and not associated with any bars? Because we all know that bar-girls are not prostitutes...right?

Why ask if they agree to raising the taxes if the government is going to do it anyways.
Reminds me of a Monthy Python sketch - Answer only "Yes" or "No" - Have you stopped beating your wife?
Either way, you will end up paying for it.

I am going to go hoard all the playing cards from BigC.

a scheme to get more "hi-end" women to come to Pattaya
Wait a sec! Isn't that called "human trafficking"?
Ah, I get it now. Since it's from TAT it's called "operation re-populate Pattaya".

Hmmm....seems to be missing something. Oh yes, it's missing the flag bearing tour leader with the 50 odd Chinese tourists follow behind, spiting on the road and gawking at everything.
Otherwise, it looks like any other street we come across everywhere in the world. Bland and boring.

following charges: Reckless driving causing the death of another person; reckless driving causing damages to another person; did not stop to aid the injured person and did not report to the officials; driving under the influence of alcohol causing the death of another person; and, driving more than the allowed speed limit.
Replace all of that with 2 words "Cop Killer" and see how fast Interpol finds him. In certain states in America, those 2 words alone is enough to have half of the police force frothing at their mouths.

What kind of fight could you possibly get with Jesus and Buddha?
Buddha: I am against violence.
Jesus: That's ok. I would of offered my other cheek anyways... How about a nice game of scrabbles?

Smart move by the pharmacist to recognize a scam.
Let's hope the pharmacist was smart enough to give the kid a super strong laxative.

I,m not defending the delivery driver for one minute but how often do I see all manner of vehicles with flashing lights speeding down the road, its difficult to tell sometimes whether it actually is an ambulance or a police escort for nothing more than a few coach parties/dignitaries on a jolly
That is the heart of the problem here in Thailand. Since the fines are so low and Thai people do not respect the police - thay think it's cool and perfectly OK for them to put flashing lights on their vehicles. Which in turns confuses all the other drivers that know to respect "right of way" laws.

Only 500baht? That isn't even considered as a fine but, only an annoyance.
Thais truly don't understand the concept of fines in order to stop people from keeping doing the wrong things. Add a zero or two at the end of these fines and maybe, just maybe, the Thais will finally understand what is a "fine" and start to drive like normal people.

They've been asking the same question for the past 5 years but refusing to accept the answer...
